Funny how easy words just slipped by you. I was referencing the obvious Utah vs. BYU speed and athleticism, but you just didn't see that. Sorry for your obvious mental impairment. No question Alabama was and is very talented. Also: "deceptively talented and speedy Utah"--another hard one for you to get--sneaked up on Alabama. That means Alabama was surprised!

For your information and read this carefully maybe three or four times so you can retain just a little:

Both Utah and Alabama had 4 draft choices in last year's draft, to help you that means "deceptively talented Utah." Utah had three skilled guys Sean Smith-CB 4.5 40, Brice McCain CB 4.28 40 and Freddie Brown who only caught 12 passes against the, to you, so much more talented Alabama team. Paul Kruger was the other pick at DE, another quick big guy 5.0 40.

Alabama had two behemoth linemen taken and two skilled guys one back 4.58 40 and one safety at 4.53. Obviously a talented crew.

So to review for your cloudy brain; the reference was Utah vs. BYU and deceptively means: weren't looking for it.

THEeyepatch

I'm not a BYU fan. Not even if they were the only team from UTAH to make a Bowl game. I wouldn't watch it or care if they won or not, but I get tired of these college minor league's for the NFL schools that without a football program would be a community college or junior college. Most of these kind of schools players don't belong in college and only because they can run a 4.2 are recruited. I know at BYU, student athletes get a proper education and moral foundation. OU talked a big game last year and I don't remember watching them win a National Championship. If BYU wins that's great, it they lose, well, that great too.

Football Season is coming!!!

I'm just ready for some football. Both teams come into the first game of a season undefeated. Anything can happen from there. Neither team is going to just lie down. Teams have to will their way to every victory against programs like BYU or Oklahoma. These programs win most every game they play. But someone has to lose.

I just can't wait until the pigskin flies; hopefully it bounces my team's way all day long. But talk aside, and win or lose, its going to be great to see two great college football programs back in action, playing the story out on the field where it belongs and where it matters. And this one has the makings of a great story:

Oklahoma is a great team and may even be the very best team this year, but they haven't beaten anyone just yet. If BYU gets its way, BYU may prove to be the best team Oklahoma faces all year. September 5th will be the start of a great season for each team, because both are great teams regardless. For the winner the season will just be that much better. Go Cougars!

RE: Hard work | 1:54 p.m.

And yet, all the talent in the world WITHOUT hard work and discipline is absolutely useless... and don't sell BYU's talent short before you've actually seen it at work. Maybe it'll be good enough and maybe it won't, but let's take a look first, shall we?

As you doubtless know from your expertise in football, the team that gets to play its own game generally wins. That might well be Oklahoma--the odds and smart money, as it were, are certainly on that. But don't count out a surprise from BYU. It's happened before. (Next post--a Ute troll will say that it would truly be surprising if BYU actually pulled it off.) :)

We'll see what happens on the field, one way or the other!

Dave

I'm a die hard Ute and graduate but I truly hope the Zoobs can put up a good showing and maybe give themselves a shot at pulling this out by staying close into the 4th qtr.

It's the first game of the year and anything is possible especially with the experience you guys have on offense.

Just don't embarass yourselves and the rest of the league.

Gee, if Boise State can beat the Sooners, the Cougs ought to be able to poke out their spokes, don't ya think?

I really expect the Y to win. Maybe I'm fanish but I think the BcS teams are overrated. BYU has a great chance to show everyone we are a real football school and we have held up the conference more than anyone else wants to admit. I would love nothing else than for us to go undefeated and TCU, OU and FSU to only have 1 loss the U with 2 and BYU get left out of the National Championship. That would really put the pressure on the NCAA to cut the B(c)S and have a playoff already. It would be fitting since most people think it is because of BYU that it was started, that we would end it.

The only positive from the BcS is I HAVE to root for everyone in the conference. I even have to hope Alex Smith stops being a bust and finally comes through. I wish the U could have played for the NC and in the old system they probably would have won it, oh well. The quest to destroy the monopoly continues. Let's all bring down the BcS already!!!

The reason we see so much about theOu-Byu game in Utah is because we really can't get excited for the powerhouse the Fr(Utes) get to play in their opener.
Yawn.....

The eye patch? what

What are you talking about? Explain what you mean by "I get tired of these college minor league's for the NFL schools that without a football program would be a community college or junior college"? Be specific... which schools are you talking about?

Jann

I was born and raised in Nebraska so I should be a died in the wool cornhusker fan; Im not because I am a die hard utah fan.OU usually beat the crap out of nebraska many times and nebraska won a few times. OU is nothing to reckon with and they are a power house. If byu can get it togther it would be cool if the cougs won. I think it would be funny if OU got sent packing home to Norman. Good luck cougs and go U of U.

John

All i can say is this and i promise i will never say it again.... I promise is this.....GO SOONERS!!!!

Run ball every time

We would have blown TCU out of water last year if we had run every down. NOTHING WRONG WITH RUNNING EVERY DOWN. Think outside the box. Our O-line outweighed TCU by 80-100 pounds per guy!!!! And we try and pass, and end up throwing picks and having QB fumble. ONE THING I LEARNED FROM UTES LAST YEAR, THEY LET GAME COME TO THEM, DON'T TRY AND WIN A GAME IN 1ST QUARTER, JUST PLAY SUPER CONSERVATIVE BALL UNTIL THE 4TH. JUST PLAY FIELD POSITION, BETTER TO PUNT PUNT PUNT THAN TO TURN BALL OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN PLAYING A BRAND OF FOOTBALL WE HAD NO BUSY PLAYING AGAINST THE UTES AND HORNFROGS.

Live across the green

I'm Utah red through and through but I was pulling hard for the Cougars in their bowl game and was very angry at their lame effort. If BYU goes out and loses by 35 it will completely negate the Utes effort in the Sugar Bowl just like Hawaii's bowl humiliation destroyed the work Utah and Boise State had done. Come on Cougars, pull your weight and quit living off the work of the team up north.

RE Cougar

"BYU 28 OU 24"

With 7 returning starters on D you better hope the other 4 are NFL prospects otherwise D will get rolled just like it did last year againt UNLV, CSU, UofA, and Washington!

I will tell you BYU fans this..OU will be fine w/their O-Line and the WR's. They will be ready. OU's O-coordinator stated that OU must be ready to play because BYU is coming to town, No room for error. OU has been practing with a sence of urgency as well. So long as OU runs the ball well, they will be fine. I kknow BYU will not be scared. OU will be ready.

byu fans hope to stop ou's o"

come on, ou was the highest scoreing offense in the hestory of football last year, yes they lost a few players but they have alot of skilled players returning, and then there D only lost two starters, look at what they did to texas tech, not to mention in the first five games they took out five QB's for atleast series, same D line returning, same LB'ers retuning, i think byu is replaceing four o linemen?
if thats the case then i wish max the best of luck coming out unscafed,

another soonerfan

As a "true sooner fan" I just want to say that the OU football program respects BYU and all of their opponents and that 99% of the OU fans do also.Don't judge the sooner nation just because a few loud mouths like to boast.Believe me, this is a great match up for both teams to start the season off with. I wish more teams played a tougher schedule.I think it makes the teams better...win or lose.Kudos to both programs for scheduling the game.

OU 56 BYU 35

Max Hall does relatively well throwing for slightly over 300 yards and gets some high praise from the big time announcers. Dennis Pitta shows his stuff but bottom line the Sooners are too fast and too good. Their defense gives up some chunks but OU's offense led by Sam Bradford overwhelms the Y for a comfortable win.
