whining already | 1:09 a.m. Aug. 10, 2009
Not sure if you belong in 3-A? You should have been there long before now. Tried it before and flopped, whined your way back to 2-A and couldn't even compete there. Buck up coach, you have enough good kids to put a good team on the field. Quit making excuses and play ball.
amen too whining | 11:24 a.m. Aug. 10, 2009
8-46 thats something too build on. I guess there is only one way to go?????? Weak at linebackers huh well maybe you should have not ran off those bad apples like Jensen kid. Good luck this year you are going too need it
8-46 | 2:03 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
I think you can BUILD on That! I look for some real improvement now RICHFIELD!

What Happened?

When I was a kid Richfield dominated in every sport.

Now they are like a step above Gunnison!

not even that | 2:24 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
i doubt they could even beat gunnison. they (along with the coaches wife) run off one of their best players and he went to gunnison.
what happened | 2:29 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
what happened to all their seniors. they were loaded last year. they have like 2 seniors and no experience now. they are gonna get killed. remember loading up a team and beating up on our freshmen and sophmores. and then saying we'll be just fine in 3a. ha ha. Rabbits 42 richfield 0!!!!
rhs through and through | 3:58 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
I used to play at Richfield and we had some pride c'mon Richfield pick it up a little.

3A isn't that much of a step up from 2A....

you should pound teams like ss, and others that you play...

but keep working on the positives....
get back that winning pride...
wildcat fan | 5:03 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
Good luck to this years football team! Don't worry about all the negatives people have to say. Just go out and prove that you can play football. There are 8 seniors who are playing, along with a loaded group of juniors and sophomores. Yes, the competition will be tougher in 3A, but hopefully it will motivate the boys to only work harder and prove people wrong. GO CATS!
2A | 7:08 p.m. Aug. 10, 2009
I will miss Richfield in the 2A ranks. Especially now that some of the "chosen ones" (named by their parents) are gone. The attitudes of the seniors that are not playing will not be missed, and I know the whinning of their parents who are trying to re-live their glory days (if they even had one) will definately not be missed. Good luck Wildcats! High school sports=life long lessons.
longtime richfield resident | 12:49 a.m. Aug. 11, 2009
I am glad Richfield is 3A and they should stay 3A there school is twice as big as 2A school so deseret news they are not a middle 2A school they just whine to much instead of stepping up and showing how well they can do... And being in schools the size of theirs they can't make the kids that they let play with the right names be big stars so they can brag on them.....If the coach would let kids play that try out instead of doctors, lawyers, police kids that think they are all that and have the richfield name they might have a good team....
yea but | 7:51 a.m. Aug. 11, 2009
until coaches here get a spine it will always be that way. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and these coaches cave into those parents who do all of the whining instead of playing the best players.
CAT PRIDE | 10:57 a.m. Aug. 11, 2009
Okay, we dont need all of the negative talk about the school, the Wildcats are going to do just fine this year, I watched a 7 on 7 tournament where the beat the Delta Rabbits by three touchdowns, enough trashing them online. They are going to perform just fine in 3A. And their so called "bad apple seniors" chose not to play themselves, no one ran them off. In my opinion they are better off without the bad influence, they have a good group of seniors and a strong group of juniors that have been playing together for over 5 years, they know their team better than anyone else. Lets go Wildcats, take it to 'em and shut up these negative commentors!!! Take the talk to the field.
Scott Jensen | 2:27 p.m. Aug. 11, 2009
As a father of one of the so called "Bad Apples and a Chosen One" I feel badly that my son has chose to play baseball this fall instead of football but I support him because his heart is no longer into football. He would rather play baseball year round if he could. AS FAR AS HIM BEING RUN OFF BY A COACH THIS IS NOT TRUE. THE COACHES HAVE SUPPORTED HIM IN HIS DECISION. As far as what some of you parents, NOT COACHES are saying, I feel badly that you think that these kids won't be missed and that they are such a bad influence. These kids are the same kids that have been freinds and teammates for many years and they have also been very successful at whatever sport they have played. Hopefully when the time comes for your child to make a decision to not play a sport you let him or her make their choice and that they are not talked about all over the internet. I wish all of my freinds playing and coaching football good luck this year and I will be at the games supporting each one of you. Scott Jensen

Amen to what you said Scott. Isn't it amazing what can be wrote when you have anonomity. I too am truly sorry for the things that people have said about these boys. When did following your dream become so bad, and why the need for all the name calling. These kids are the same today as they were yesterday and will be tomorrow, leave them alone. I echo and agree what Scott has said, too those of you who have a problem with these boys man up and print your name I will bet you are the same people who have never raised a finger too help any program. We are guilty, but of only caring about that school and all the kids in it. Good luck too all the kids who compete, may your year be worthy of all your work. And too all those who love to tear down get a life and print your name from now on
The Sad Part | 4:19 p.m. Aug. 11, 2009
The saddest part of this whole debate is that the writing was on the wall when this group was in 8th grade. I don't think the kids are "bad apples" but "chosen" they have been. Chosen by their parents to be the three sport stars. They have played every super league/traveling team they could for years. The kids are simply....burnt out. To think they spent all that time and energy in 6, 7, 8 grade so they would be tired to play when their bodies and minds would have let them have such a better experience.

Also, it was not kids that have been run off, but coaches over the past several year by sadly SOME of this same bunch of parents. Say what you will, but it is well documented. I am aware of "team" meetings just this past spring where some dads were there but no coaches.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm.

As one of the moms of a senior, I want to wish this team a successful and injury free season. I'm glad to see Coach Clark is back with the coaching staff.
This team will be facing some new challenges with the 3A transition, but nothing they aren't capable of handling. Good luck to you all!
Experience? | 7:06 p.m. Aug. 11, 2009
to who ever wrote "what happened" i dont believe that you know what your talking about. The offence will be returning 5 starters and the defence will be returning and at least 6, plus the team will also be returning 3 or 4 DB's this year which will help in the passing game. Ben Jorgensen was a first year starter last year and was honorable metion last year, and Andy Gigel will be starting for his 3 year, or he has been starting sense he was a sophomore, you underestimate the experience the wildcats do have.
Widcat Pride | 11:19 a.m. Aug. 12, 2009
To all the people who have and "unknown" reason to put the wildcats down, this year will put your foot right back in your mouth, this is a year of change, the team knows what they have to do, and they also know that no very many people believe in them, but the team still has heart, so just wait. There is no reason to get on here and rag on a team just to make yourself feel better because your no perfect either.
Mama Pei | 2:09 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009
First off... I want to tell the Wild Cats, "Good Luck" this season. I love football and what it does for our boys. Football can be a life long lesson for these boys. And all the parents and fans that go online to make their opinions known, please remember everyone reads them. These boys need to have your support, they work their butts off so they can play this game. No one learns or gets motivated by negative comments.......Boys, kick some butt this year!!!!!!!!!

I am the sister of one of these so called "bad apples" . My "bad apple" brother was the person who showed me this blog page. So to those of you who think its fun to trash these kids I want you to know that they read this stuff! If they had this kind of stuff when I was in high school and you talked about me the way you talk about my brothers I'd be devastated. So thank you for reminding me why I will never raise my kids anywhere near this area.
Friend of "bad apples" | 3:36 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009
oh brittney your reading to much into this, your brother was never singled out as a "bad apple" people just turned it into that because of him and the jensen boy not playing, so i would just like eveyone who reads this blog to know that. Coach Morrison is a good man who never ever singled out and said "this kid and that kid are bad apples". the only thing he said was something about bad apples one time at a throw around and you people have turned it into a much bigger thing than it is

Amen to Mama Pei. Good luck Cats.

Bad Apples? Whoever pegged these kids as such, are fools. There are no bad apples here. Every kid is born with a seed of greatness, no matter what they choose to do, or not do, in sports or in life in general. I'm pretty sure that the boys who chose not to play this year will be at the game cheering along their buddies, but this time off the field....and that's way okay.
Just a high schooler | 1:43 p.m. Aug. 13, 2009
I heard about these blog things and heard about what has been being said! I read them and it makes me feel horrible. These are the kids I go to school with, and I know almost all of them. The ones that are playing football, Go get em'! Show these people what Richfield football is all about! And to the 4 seniors that I know of not playing, go get what you need to done! From what I've heard, your playing fall baseball! Just what everyone is saying though, each one of these players are striving for something better. Who cares if they are or aren't playing football. All of them will still support each other no matter what! So just let these guys do what they want and support every Richfield High School kid no matter what they are doing!

To those playing football, ben, andy, jaren, tyler, rob, and anyone else who is playing. Good luck! Go out and show these people how to play football!

And to those who are not playing, goodluck doing what your going to do... chris, colten, jake, and kyle.

Keep supporting each other like you always have, and remain friends! Don't get caught up in any of this, and just go out and have a good year!

Go Richfield!!

Good Luck to the RHS football team and nice to see Coach Clark back in the loop. I believe that if Principal Brown & Mr Barton would let these kids TRULY show their school spirit that would help. These kids are limited to what they can say or do. Sportsmanship is great but cheering your team on is even better!
GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a parent of a "bad apple", I would like to know who is the one labeling them this. I would hope it's not a coach, or administration. I support Kyle's decision to play fall Baseball and Golf. MY only problem with all of this is, if you have so much to say about these boy, put a name on it. My family and I have never done anything but supported Richfield sports and it's coach's( even if we didn't agree with them). We as a group of parents have been called alot of things, and for what reason, Because we expect more from our boys, we want them to be thier best at whatever they do. I am sorry if somewhere along the line we offended some of you, that was not our intention. We have only wanted the best for all the boys and girls that play, I can't say the same for all of you. I believe that these boys will be missed, and I will miss watching them. I will always support our school and coach's. GO CATS HAVE GREAT YEAR IN WHATEVER SPORT IT IS.

As a fan of Richfield sports, I can't believe that with the football season starting all you can talk about is the four seniors not playing. It's a new year and going 3A there is alot of other things you could talk about. These seniors not playing must be a big distraction for all of you. In my estimation and watching these boys for years they are 4 of our top 10 atheletes in the school. Yes thier non presence is going to be felt, especially in 3A. Don't kid yourselves these guys can hit, run, catch and throw. As far as bad attitudes, you have a few really bad attitudes and reputations on the field, but thats ok because thier playing. Sorry football team you could have used these guys, sorry seniors not playing, it's to bad people don't have anything better to do than bash you. Good luck to all of you and don't use these 4 seniors as an excuse at the end of the season.
GOOD LUCK! not thrilled cats fan

Mindy Sorensen | 4:17 p.m. Aug. 15, 2009
I debated over and over whether or not to respond to any of this nonsense, but feel as though it is time. We are excited for another football season, and so far, the boys have had a very positive experience and are excited about playing. Going 3A will definitely be a challenge in every sport at RHS, but the kids will work hard and do their best. As for the seniors who made the decision not to return this year, we will miss them and wish them the very best in whatever they choose to do. We sincerely hope they go enjoy baseball or golf or whatever else they decide. We will cheer them on and will expect them to cheer us on too. Let's be happy for one another's success and show friendship and support to each other. Good luck to this year's team!
KRISTI SHEPHERD | 6:11 p.m. Aug. 15, 2009
I too, like Mindy, have debated whether or not to reply to all this nonsense or continue to allow people in my own community to sit and bash my son and our family. He is the type of person that could make any mother or father proud. He is one of the most hard working dedicated kids. He has put his heart and soul into sports at RHS. But after a terrible knee injury last year playing football in which he underwent two surgeries to fix his ACL,MCL,LCL and Meniscus. He made the decision not to play because of the chance that he may injure it again and would not be able to play baseball as a senior. Anyone who knows these kids know they eat and breathe baseball. In the school song it talks about a school we love and a school that's way above. We need to quit talking trash about students, parents, coaches and the administration and start getting the true spirit of RHS back. I want my children to be proud that they grew up in a great community and can be proud of RHS. Good luck to all the teams.
RHS Sports..... | 9:53 a.m. Aug. 17, 2009
.....have been dead for about 10 years. They are not even in the conversation any more. Last year they were scheduling 1A teams. Richfield, at one time, was one of the 10 classy sports programs in all of Utah! Wow, how things have changed.
RE: RHS sports | 2:03 p.m. Aug. 17, 2009
If richfield sports have been dead for ten years why have we won state in track 5 times out of the last ten years, volleyball 2 out of the last ten years, boys cross country 4 times out of the last ten years girls cross country 3 times out of the ten years, girls basketball 1 out of the last ten years, golf 2 times out of the last ten years, not to mention that we took state in drama in the year 2001. I dont know about you but that is a total of 18 state championships in a decade.
To RHS Sports | 5:09 p.m. Aug. 17, 2009
By the way...Richfield did win the the Deseret News all-sports award again this year. Stop by the school and look at the banner!
Oh my. | 8:36 a.m. Aug. 18, 2009
Wow. Such negativity. Never mind Richfield brought home four state championships last year ... let's just set that fact aside for a moment.

You people talk as though any of this means anything. High school sports is meaningless in the real world. It produces fools who try to relive the glory days, the apex of their existence, through pushing their own kids, constantly talking about "when I played ... " and posting such nonsense on comment boards. Maybe if we spent as much time and effort on academics as we did on sports, we wouldn't be playing catch up educationally with places like Japan.
RE: Oh my. | 4:40 p.m. Aug. 18, 2009
AMEN!

You hit the nail right on the head. This WHOLE "controversy" (using the term lightly) was started many years ago when people trying to relive their glory days made their kids "special". They "weeded" out other kids and coaches to put their kids in a better place (their terminology, not mine). NOW that their kids don't want to play, people are mad. Had this not gone on in 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th grade, no one would care. It would just be some kids that decided not to play like every school has every year.

BUT because these kids were "anointed" by their parents so early, there has been a careful eye on them. Some now are ANGRY that their kid didn't get a shot early one. Some are LAUGHING cuz' of the irony, and some are SO GRATEFUL cuz' they THOUGHT they wanted the same for their kids, but now see the FOOLISHNESS in those dreams.

It's just too bad some used idiotic terminology such as "bad apples."

You are right on. It would be nice to see such passion over poor teachers and lack of participation in the classroom.
amen bro | 10:43 p.m. Aug. 20, 2009
i love everyone and you should to
NO WAY!!!!! | 1:43 p.m. Aug. 22, 2009
I cant believe that you can say that high school sports is meaningless. I personally know that high school sports teach young men lessons they will never forget and principles they will live by and use through out their whole lives. I am a member of the Wildcats football team, and I support these "Bad Apples" decisions too. I know that we will feel their loss but they obviously have other passions or better things to do. I will remain friends with these "Bad Apples" and still support them. And for all my fellow Wildcats: Ben, Geigle, Pei, Rob, Tyler, and anyone else reading this, we know what we are capable of. Lets shut all of the negative comments out, dont pay any attention to them, they havent been watching us all summer, we know what we can do, and what we will do. We do our talking on the field, and in the classroom.
See | 2:58 p.m. Aug. 22, 2009
We really didn't need these bad apples for the win. We are just fine without them. Our boys dug down deep and pulled out the win.
re see | 9:46 p.m. Aug. 22, 2009
just who did you beat, an under manned glorified 1A team with no depth. Sounds like the first half was a real dandy thank goodness you did not play a good team they would have buried you but what does that have too do with those boys who did not play. So now that you have this mighty team I guess you wont be able too blame them when you loose most of the rest of your games. PS great game boys too bad your fans do not have as much class as you boys do.
Meaningless | 5:51 p.m. Aug. 24, 2009
High School sports are meaningless IF the appropriate life lessons are not learned. I think "Oh my" was trying to say that unless those lessons are learned, then you

"produce fools who try to relive the glory days, the apex of their existence, through pushing their own kids, constantly talking about "when I played ... "

ALSO, this is not a SPORTS problem, it's a society problem. It happens on the Drill team, cheerleading, Sterling Scholar etc..... Parents in ALL arenas are trying to give their kids the "one up."

Wildcat Mom | 2:19 p.m. Aug. 25, 2009
Settle down Folks! My son was a little upset about not playing for a 4A school, but he has put his heart into RHS Football this year and says he has some great teammates & coaches. Slandering the players takes away from the spirit of the game and the unity it should provide to the community of Richfield! Good luck to all boys and coaches this year. I am excited to see what you've taught these boys in action! And I hope we have a Positively Rowdy Parent Cheering Section!
