Along with a number of "successful" pregnancies, I had three miscarriages between one and three months along. All were emotionally wrenching.
They might not technically have been a "baby" yet, but each was a separate and unique being. Their body chemistry had already interacted with mine, so that with one "baby" I developed a taste for a food I had never enjoyed before. Even now, years later, when I see that particular food item I think of the baby who might have been.
You have a right to mourn.

Three of my ten pregnancies ended in miscarriages, but the only one that still wrenches my heart is the one where I was hemorrhaging so bad that they had to do a D&C; the doctor's bill listed the procedure as a "therapeutic abortion." His office told me that the only difference between that term and "spontaneous abortion" is that their intervention was necessary.
Maybe those are the correct medical terms, but I thought they were in poor taste.
I did not return to that doctor.
