"Diagnosed with the N1H1 virus..."
Umm, actually it's "H1N1". I knew this was going to start happening. What people call it is going be all over the map. "Hey Larry, did ya hear that Bill got that H911 virus? Oooooooweee, it's bad stuff!"
BYU has a mean defensive front with Jorgensen, Denney, and Tialavea all returning. Maybe we will see Bradford cough up an int/fumble or two.
wow, this flue stuff is a killer - glad it is over for him and get more leaner! Go COUGARS!
Uhmmm, based on what I read, he said H1N1.
I am a hard core Cougar Fan, but I'll be the first to admit that I am scared to death about the depth on our D-line. Jorgensen, Russell, and Denney are all top rate guys but we don't have much behind that. I think So'oto will pan out at D-end and be solid, but 4 quality d lineman is not enough to survive the grind.
I hate to say it, but look at Utah's d-line. They go 8 deep with really good players. They can rotate them in and out platoon style all game and wear out an offensive line.
Hate to say it, but look for our boys to get worn down in the 4th quarter of each game, and we could be in trouble later in the season if these guys get dinged up.
Why didn't Bronco recruit more D-lineman. I'm worried about our depth also. One injury and we're in serious trouble.
Does anyone know the status of Running Back Manase Tonga? I really hope he plays for the Y this year.
Do you mean 2 deep? If the red team goes 8 deep then they have no linebackers or db's and only one wide out on the roster.
I'm not so worried about our 2-deep deffensive line deapth. I agree that we're not as deep as Utah but I think that So oto and Putnam will be very solid DE's and Hola and Fuga give pretty solid depth at NT.
Interesting how the coaches and Tialavea don't seem to think anything about playing into next year, like for a new year's bowl game. With him reporting on Dec 30 for his mission, it seems they have already counted themselves out to be BCS busters.
RE: Manase Tonga
Tonga is waiting results of two summer courses he had to take. He had to do well in the courses to become academically eligible. I believe the results will come out in a week or two, and then we'll know if he can play or not.
If BYU has a game the first week of the year then he can push his mission back a couple of weeks to play. He did it already once and the MTC will be there a couple of week later. As much as I'd like it to be a problem, let's just see how our cougars do through the first three games before spouting off about a New Year's day bowl.
Nope, I truly meant 8 deep and anyone that understands football at all would have understood. Utah uses two DE's and two DT's at all times. That's four -- you following? Platoon all four out of the game, as Utah often does, and bring in four fresh quality players. 4 + 4 = 8. Utah is 8 men deep on their d line. Please be more careful in the future before embarrassing yourself with your lack of football knowledge.
Our cougars have only 3 proven quality d-lineman. The rest are a bunch of "oh crap" last minute switches from different positions. I have a feeling that So'oto might work out, but Putnam, Hola, and Fuga are not high level D1 guys. Maybe Fuga works out too, but that still only gives us 5 guys that are serviceable. Add and injury, we're in big trouble. 12 games will wear down all of them to shreds by the time we get to the holy war.
No the other guy was right. The Utes have eight good D-linemen but they only go 2 deep at each position. The Utes run a 4-3 as opposed to the Cougs. 3-4, so we only need to go 2 deep with 6 solid players in order to compare. Keep an eye on Putnam - the kid's gonna be good! He reminds me of Shaun Nua, who also moved from LB to DE. He's still playing on Sundays...
Your math is convulted with your inability to express yourself. You don't take multiple set ups and multiply it to get 8 deep. Your math classes mut have been the funny math they are teaching in schools. Throw in a lot of numbers and move them around and say you have proved your point.
When you take out 2 defensive ends and replace them with 2 defensive ends that is only 2 deep, not 4 deep. The same goes for the tackles. You are multiplying when you should be adding.
Yjumper must be Putnams mom.
And I never said 8 deep at each position. 8 deep in quality lineman.
The only person that thinks Putnam will have an impact is his own family. Mom, are you posting comments again?
HAHAAHAHA. You BYU fans are hilarious. Arguing about how to say, "Our D-line really sucks and has no depth."
By the way: Utah goes 10 deep on the D-line (not at each position, but 10 guys that could start at your school). Jorgensen is the only guy on your defense that could even get on the field for the Utes, and he would be part of the 8-10 man rotation along the d-line.
You guys are up in the night. Putnam will be very good this year. He showed flashes of greatness last year. For whatever reason Utah seems to have more defensive linemen than we have but I really like what we have as wll. I wish we had some of next year's defensive linemen on the team this year.
Well, al least someone saw the same potential in Putnam that I saw las year. Thanks Thorndog! I think he can only get better moving back to his natural position of DE. Maybe I'm just following things closer these days but it seems like a lot more guys are walking out on the program than normal. Any idea why?
