Half Right

The polls are meaningless and useless. Fans should not get worked up before their team actually does something justifiable.

polls

Unfortunately, the initial coaches poll does have some bearing on this season. Imagine if the Utes started last year ranked number 18 or higher and then beat a higher ranked TCU. Utah would have finished even higher in that quagmire of a BCS ranking and had a better chance of going to the NC.

I didn't like the inconsistency here of talking about the coaches poll and then comparing that to Utah's no. 2 finish in the AP poll. Remember that Utah finished 4th in the coach's poll.

Maybe there needs to be more discussion on why anyone, especially someone associated with an academic institution, would rely on the inherently biased poll made by uninformed coaches (actually made mostly by uninformed and prejudiced administrative assistants).

For a college football fan in general, that's the biggest slap in the face. We should all get together and rally outside the BCS offices chanting "DOWN WITH THE COACH'S POLL"

Old Stuff

I forgot where we are rank now. This poll need to wait in believing where they belong. Seeing ND in the poll make me laugh. For Bamma, they better be if that where they belong. Florida, that may be true for most of those starters are back. Sooner or later will see Sept 5 against Cougars.
Go Cougars and we will see who belongs in the final Polls! (if when and where they belong)

Arbitrary polls

I agree the polls should wait until the 1st week of October. Especially since many of these polls have come out prior to fall camp. A team won't know who will play until the opening kickoff. Don't believe me? Ask Jason Boone how many starts HE thought he'd get for 2008. Many players are lost for the season to injury before ever suiting up for a real game.

Another problem with these polls was manifest last year. Many voters admitted to have never seen the Utes play until the Sugar Bowl. How many of those voters know Brian Johnson, Louie Sakoda, or Paul Kruger won't take the field this year? Even the Coach's poll is suspect. If there are media writers who never watch the games, how much greater would the probability that neither do the Coaches? They're too busy actually PLAYING the game, then breaking down film of opposing teams on their schedules. How many MWC games do we believe Mack Brown watched? ZERO! At least not until the Sugar Bowl.

Joke

Agreed preseason polls should be done away with. Think about it if they were eliminated the Y would never be ranked this year. Sorry Poogurs:(
