So Jeff, it's bad, but not as bad as Transformers, but it's rated a half star less than Transformers... How does your star system work?

John Charity Spring

This movie is an abomination. It is outrageous that a movie geared towards children would consist primarily of: "strong violent action and imagery (gunplay and shootings, combat, sword play and stabbings, vehicular and explosive mayhem, and violence against women and children), scattered strong profanity, drug content (hypodermic needles), some gore and blood, a brief torture scene, some suggestive language, derogatory language and slurs (mostly based on nationality), and glimpses of nude statues". There was a time in this COuntry when Hollywood did not seek to corrupt our young people. Now, modern Hollywood seems nothing short of determined to promote immorality, violence, and disresprect for authority to the youngest audience possible.

Good point, Riley

It's not as bad as Transformers? Jeff gave it two stars and this one and a half... Oops.

John, John, John...
Did you even see the movie? huh, did you??

Besides -
It's geared toward children that watched it 20 years ago and are now all in their 20's and 30's.
[Male, mid-20, 30s ....prime movie buff age]

Think man.
P.S. Leave your religious judgement at home.

What does JCS's comments have to do with religion. A lot of people without religion believe in good morals and ethics. Leave your bigotry at home.

I am just hopeful that it doesn't include all the tasteless toilet humor that Transformers had. Even though the original fans are in their 30's, there is a new generation of fans to think about. My 4 year old wanted to see Transformers.

I remember when Hollywood was big into telling a story, which seemed to be the the main reason they made a movie. Now, I cant imagine what they are trying to do with their big budget movies. To me it is sad that those who we think are the world's storytellers allow plot complications like violence, sex, drugs, stupid aliens (IJ4), and dumb birds (Up) become the story, rather than take the time to help me connect with the imagery.

REALLY???

You remember when hollywood was big into telling a story?

OH HAHA!!!

First of all, hollywood STILL loves to tell a story, it is that we seem to be too jaded these days.

The movies of now are no more silly than the ones of yesteryear.....

MUST I REMIND YOU of such hollywood stortytelling classics as THIS ISLAND EARTH or ANGRY RED PLANET...

REALLY???

You must be about four years old if you don't have any clue of hollywood of old. It is the same as hollywood as of late. They don't CARE ABOUT STORY.... They care about MONEY!!!!

If it sells, make it. Most of the so called STORY centered movies have tanked out and lost money over the last decade. I SAID MOST, NOT ALL!!! LEARN TO READ!!!

I am insulting you now because I know you don't know how to read and will most likely respond stupidly like white cops according to our president.

Learn a little something about the business before you make a comment on it. It is easy to be an armchair quarterback, try being and ACTUAL QUARTERBACK!!! IT HURTS!!!

Actual Movie Review

I just caught the matinee showing and can sum this movie up in 1 word - terrible. Coming from a guy that actually enjoys the "dumbest" of summer action blockbusters (I was entertained by Transformers 2), this movie is the worst action movie that I have seen in a long time. In an attempt to keep this positive, let me tell you THE 2 reasons to see this movie. First, the ninja fights between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are wicked cool and Sienna Miller as Baroness is pretty good (at least on the eyes). It's sad when a movie would have been better if it would have been 2 hours of ninja fighting with a hottie standing to the side cheering them on (oops, that was made in the 80's aka Karate Kid). This may be one of those rare movies that isn't even worth the $1 Redbox rental and that's saying a lot.

RE

This movie Rocked! Went and saw at the 12:01 am showing and had a great time.

"the film almost comes across as a live-action cartoon." noooo!!!.. reallly??? i thought its materal source was a soap opera cartoon.

@stefano

So did Batman, X-men and Spiderman and they all had good movies created about them.

i hated Transformers. a lot. it was the dumbest movie I think i have ever seen. I don't know if I want to see G.I. Joe now... In fact, the only reason I AM going to see it is because Channing Tatum is SO good looking.

RE: John Charity Spring

I Hate to break it to you,

But there NEVER was a time.

IT has always been about money, pushing the boundaries,

immorality, debauchery, the lowest common denominator, etc.

If it wasn't for certian inviduals who put forth the effort to make a good movie,

or standards , censors, codes that tried keep them out of the gutter,

we may never had any good movies and TV.

Way better than transformers!

I actually was way sceptical about this movie, but it looked fun, so I went and it was great! Truly not gonna win any type of cinema awards, but it was great fun to watch, especailly seeing action figures I played with as a kid in real life. Don't take this movie too seriously, just enjoy it for what it is, a chance to get away from the crap of reality for a couple hours

Huh?

But try to make a comment about how you feel the reviewer based his review more on his hurt feelings about not getting a screening than the actual movie, and see if it gets approved. My didn't.

Tery

"Yo Joe" and "Knowing is half the battle"? They actually say those things in the movie? I'm going to go see it right now!

What were critics expecting?

This literally was a live action cartoon. It knows exactly what's it's doing. The cheesy lines were in your face and meant to make you laugh. It's aimed at ten year old boys. If you can accept that and nothing more this movie was not that bad. Jeff is a biased film critic in my opinion and constantly contradicts himself. You can't expect this movie to be the dark knight g.i. Joe style. There is no moral dillema or visionary film making. We come to expect to much. And the comment about how this movie shouldn't be aimed at kids because of content? There were very few swear words and the violence was so comic it was a joke. I didn't see many problems as far as that's concerned.

This movie rocked!

Made the most out of the franchise. It was a miracle how they pulled it off. It managed to stay faithful to the 1980's carton and the people they picked to play the parts looked and acted almost exactly the way you remember them. I could not keep a strait face the way Dennis Quaid really was General Hawk when playing the part. As much with the other actors when playing their characters. It was every bit as good as the first Transformers movie and in many ways better because it made far better use of the franchise. The people who did not grow up watching GIJoe might not understand. I think Jeff Vice is one of those people. He must be really old because I am 33.

I had tons of these action figures and watched the cartoons religiously as a youth. But you have to turn your brain off to enjoy this movie. The action sequences are true to the cartoon, and have to be taken in that context. The plot is extremely simple, but the movie seems to stay within the boundaries it outlined. Snake eyes and Stormshadow were my favorite action figures, and had the best story/action in the movie.

Does anyone else find Duke to be freakishly identical to Shepard in Mass Effect, costume, weapons, promo poses and all.
