All I know is that when my migraines hit, I drink a diet coke and take two ibuprofen. The migraine has stopped in 10 minutes. Other migraine meds - both prescription and OTC - do not work without the jolt of caffeine.
I have a blog that tracks parallels between science and the Mormon religion, and I have many articles from science about caffeine. Caffeine is a drug and has bad effects on our bodies, but it also has many positive effects, in the short-term at least.
I don't drink coffee, as both a religious principle and a health principle. I just don't like to take drugs into my body, regardless of any positive effects the drugs may have. This attitude toward drugs is my personal attitude and says nothing about attitudes other LDS may have. They make their choices, and I make mine. The LDS church has never said we shouldn't drink coffee because of caffeine.
