Wendie is awesome. She was my nurse when I was in the ICU for a blood clot several years ago. She spent a lot of time with me one evening helping me to feel better and putting the right things in life in the right perspective. After I got out of the hospital I read her books too and was so impressed by her energy, her desire to help others, and being a mom of 9 kids! Even though I only crossed paths with Wendie for a few hours, it made a huge impression on me. Its no surpise to see her successful in everything that she does.

You are an inspiration!! Keep up the good work and here's to many more successes!

Marylander

More power (lifting) to you, sister.

good

now get the ones who need it out there as the day will come to head back to missouri not misery!

Never give up on a dream.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
Teddy Roosevelt

Silent Lurker

Often times people who have strong passions such as these, have a deep desire which drives them. Look at her life, beating high school boys at arm wrestles, cheerleader, mother of nine, author, weightlifting champion, newspaper article. I suspect that she is really seeking recognition, and has been for some time. There is nothing wrong with accomplishments but at what cost (ie. family)and for what purpose? (to soothe an ego)

Maybe BYU football should recruit her. Then they could have toughness on D.

Busting Stereotypes?!

BYU grad, mother of NINE?! If that isn't stereotypical of, well, you know, then what is???!!!

Ok then.

Cheers and good on you!!! :)

Re: Silent Lurker

Get a life. Don't try psychoanalyzing people you don't even know. Live your own life and allow others to do the same without second guessing their decisions. It makes you look very small indeed. Could it be you have a problem with other people achieving their goals? Perhaps you have been too timid to attempt to achieve your own? Or is it your goal to be the next newspaper column psychoanalyst like me?

Negative people

Negative people with negative comments stink, don't they? This is suppose to be nothing more than a fun article and people like to ruin it. What a great life these people have, trying to drag others down to their own misery.

Pioneer women, or oxen, I am not sure but she looks tough and probably can whip her weight in wildcats. The problem is the Weight lifter chick look doesn't really appeal to many as far as a traditional women should look. I know that is my opinion and some will disagree...but it is my opinion.

All things considered she is accomplishing something and i bet her kids don't sit on the couch or computer much but actually do something as opposed to most of the kids in the U.S.

Thank you for inspiring me to set and reach for those goals I need in my life. Thank you for your story in this time of needing to be lifted up.

Wow! nice to see all the positive comment for this great role model,,,and then there's "Silent Lurker"
spreading sunshine, joy and love every where she goes.

awesome

Keep it up Wendie! You are an inspiration! Hope more mother will follow your example, get rid of the frump and enjoy life other than scrapbooking. What a great example for her children as well, I am sure they all set goals and reach them. Children learn by example and they obviously have a wonderful example right at home!!

Braun Edwards

Being the oldest of the nine children talked about- i can say that that's just how my mom is. She loves setting goals that other people think are impossible and, well, accomplishing the impossible. I mean, it amazes even me to realize how much she has done in her life- Mother of nine, ICU Nurse, Author of a published series, National Weight Lifting Champion.... the list goes on. So, in life, i really have no excuse about not being able to accomplish something because i have such an outstanding example to look to.

So, yeah, my mom's amazing and very unique. And to wo's comment, i must admit that i do spend quite a bit of time in front of a computer, but then again, i AM a web developer ;)

Thanks for everyone's positive feedback, even Silent Lurker- taking the role of Devil's Advocate can really make people think. But in this case i assure you that she just does ANYTHING that she thinks she can.

Lifting in Mapleton

I loved this article --thanks for your example Wendie! Way to pick an accomplishment that requires sweating and real effort. And to Wo's comment, I don't think "a look" is what she was going for.

Claire

Precious "wo", Wendie has no need to appeal to "many" with her "Weight lifter chick look", she need only appeal to one, if he's the right one. Apparently, her Ted is the right one and there are at least NINE people who can attest to that fact. :)

Steve

Thanks for the inspiring story. We need more of these stories reported. It shows sunshine where there is so much doom and gloom. And being in Afghanistan, you see lots of sad stories. You have to believe in yourself. Thanks for setting a standard for all youth. It sounds like her family is great, let's leave it that way...

Jack

Wendie,
You make us proud. It takes courage and alot of other things to accomplish what you are doing. You are a good role model for the rest of us. Thank you.
