When your hated rival leaves your football program in the dust, what do you do? Write a story about your 1990 team, after writing several stories about your 1984 team.
Hahahahaha!! Keep living in the past, Cougies- it's all you got.
1990 Really? Still writing about that?
It's got to be depressing for Cougars fans that their best moments occurred before most of them were born.
My dad and I were there as we were for many games before that. Detmer was truly an amazing college quarterback. Always poised. I lost my voice for 3 days after that and my born and raised Provo dad was truly happy for a time. I have moved far away and my dad is gone now but I will always have that game with him to remember. It was an amazing effort for the whole team.
I'm not a BYU fan, but I like anything that involves beating Miami in football.
Wow how far do we have to go back in time to see a decent winning game by BYU...
i was there. south end zone. 10 yrs old. still remember it like it was yesterday. detmer was the man.
too bad we have to go back almost 20 yrs since our last great win.
maybe oklahoma?
Cougar fans talk about the past because they can. The Uters can't talk about their history because they sucked canal water for so long that their historical records were shredded like Clinton's Oval Office hallway audio & video tapes. I can still hardly wait to see the empty seats as soon as the Uters lose 2 or 3 games...the front runners will distance themselves from the program and bury their red.
I'm not a BYU fan either, but anything that involves beating BYU, Miami, Michigan, USC, or Notre Dame is awesome. A BYU-Miami, USC-Notre Dame, or Michigan-Notre Dame game...either way, I leave happy. It's a Win-Win for me.
We were there!! It was great... (except I had my Miami sweater on but still enjoyed watching the Y overcome the odds)
It must be rough when you come from a school with no football history.
It is ok Ute fans. You might get there in 20 years if you keep winning.
BYU fans relish past accomplishments because they can.
They've actually WON a national championship (not only in football, but volleyball, rugby, NCAA track and field events, the list goes on and on and on). Just because the Utes can't do what the Cougars have done so many times (oops, almost forgot the women's gymnastic team - Go Utes!) shouldn't make the Ute fans so jealous.
Really Ute fans, let it go. Your obsession over the rich and storied accomplishments of the Cougar athletic programs is getting to be more than just a little embarrassing.
History is for losers. If BYU had beat Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl they wouldn't be talking about 1990.
Ute fans, I see your inferiority complex is alive and well. A sign of a great football program and its fans is that their biggest moments take place on the field, not in casting insults at a rival. Enjoy your momentary place in the spotlight.
My wife and I traveled from Texas to Provo to see that game and I still have the "Ty" tie. It was great and we will be in Dallas in three weeks with the same hope we had then.
My parents were both UofU graduates and season ticket holders for 40 years. As a child, I sold consecessions in Rice Stadium, but I have never seen a game there that rivals the Miami game in Edwards Stadium.
In all honesty, I would rather have this year be opposite the Miami year. I liked the great win at the beginning, but Hawaii and TxA&M really stunk. This year, we will close with three strong wins.
Go Cougars.
all of you ute fan's are funny you say that we have to look in the past for a good BYU game well I'm pretty sure all of Utah's BCS games are in the past now
Other than history, the only thing Cougars have is the hope that the Utes place in the spotlight is only momentary.
Why don't you write about the 1979 undefeated team they were really the best team the cougars have ever fielded.
I wish I could read decent comments, Ute fans aren't even creative. ReAnnon: To go back to a great game @ LES Maybe 4th and 18, remember that, but you weren't even close to being ranked so why should an article be written about that. Maybe next week you'll get an article written on how the #1 team came to your place and you beat them. And Re:Festus, I'm sorry but History is what makes programs great, having followed college football meticulously for the past 25 years thats what makes it great, its fans like you have bought a tshirt after one or two great seasons and think they know it all. Name a player for your team before 1985. Any great program/fan could tell you someone. USC, Ohio St. , Penn St. Miami, Texas, think about it...
Utah:
Just a quick FYI: your little brother syndrome is showing. You might want to cover up...
Right after the 1984 series of articles? Really? This has gotta be embarrassing even for the true blue fans. 20 years since the last memorable football moment. Ouch. I almost expected to see leather helmets in the photo. There's even some grandpa in the comments who remembers going to this game! We should interview him and get him to write about it before he and his kind have passed on and it's too late.
