"The MWC then placed three teams (No. 2 Utah, No. 7 TCU and No. 21 BYU) in the final Associated Press poll."

Actually, the tdS finished ranked #25 in the final Associated Press poll. Florida St. was ranked #21.

all eyes on the UTES...

Just the UTEs!..everyone else better "catch up or step your game Up"..to quote one of Janet Jackson's hit song from the 90's.."What have you done for me lately?"....so if your team is from Fart Worth, slo Provo, and Bozo Idaho, you need to catch up...UTAH = 2 BCS Bowl titles!!..

Utah.. fight!.. fight!.. fight!

Wow, SDSU, Wyoming and UNM are all switching to no huddle spread? I guess the Utes set the trend in the Sugar bowl last year when they went up on Alabama 21-0 early because their oversized linemen couldn't breathe and they couldn't get calls in. Speed and endurance will be key on defense in the MWC this year. The only team with a power run game is Air Force.

I'm guessing SDSU makes the biggest leap up. But to say TCU has the best chance to bust the BCS after Utah is the only team to ever do it in the conference and has done it twice? I take offense. Until someone else steps up and proves they can do it, Utah is that team. Thanks for the bulletin-board material. Go UTES!

Big Mac

I think that BYU/Utah have a chance against TCU. TCU lost some players just as every other school. Their main strength is defense, but they lack in other areas. I know they are favored to win the conference, but do not be surprised if they lose a game or two.

Mars

Wyoming also plays Colorado this year.
In addition the their win over Tennessee last year, the Cowboys have also beat Miss State of the SEC (twice) and UCLA over the past 5 years.

WHO CARES ?

predictions bring nothing. who honestly cares what the so called "experts" say. remember the last time the utes were the underdogs ?

just ask Nick Saban what happend. and as for the kitties down south, let them hype themselves up. its hilarious. another quest in the process ? haha

i love my utes. GO UTES !!!

Top 25

I can't believe BYU managed to stay in the top 25 in spite of having three ugly losses on its schedule. BYU fans should be extremely grateful for the respect pollsters gave them this past season.

The generosity won't last long, however, if this becomes a pattern.

Boise State Fan

GREAT ARTICLE!!!!

I predict that BYU will win the MWC with 1 loss.

TCU in 2nd place with 2 losses.

The UTES and AF tied with 4 losses.

BS will again win their conference and be invited to the BIG DANCE representing the West!!!

Well, Maynard in Philly

Utes finished #4 in USA Today/Espn, TCU finished #7 and BYU finished #21. Same freakin' difference.

Boise State Fan

First of all the West is represented by USC, end of discussion.

Second, I predict if you lose to the ONLY good team you play this year Oregon then no one will be following Boise the rest of the year.

Anyone who thinks BYU defense which is returning 7 starters is only losing one game this year needs to take off the "Quest for Perfection" t-shirt and watch the UofA rerun.

Actually, there is a BIG difference between AP and Coaches poll... the AP crowns its own champion.

flatlander

Interesting to note that while the MWC wants in on the BCS action they are afraid of Boise State and wont let them in their conference so the article just gives lip service to the "other" BCS buster. Why not let Bosie State in and then see where the Utes and BYU rank in the conference.

Re: flatlander

It's advantageous for the MWC and Boise State to remain apart for a couple more years at least. While Boise State is in the WAC they can keep ratcheting up undefeated seasons and BCS games when they aren't beat out by a MWC team. If Boise were in the MWC then the four top teams would beat up on each other and there would be fewer non-AQ top 15 teams at the end of the season. Then, just before the BCS makes it's evaluation for who should be in the BCS, Boise comes over to the MWC on a wave of undefeated top 15 seasons and the MWC (which is already stronger than the big east) bumps the big least out. The WAC becomes even more irrelevant and the MWC takes its spot as a BCS league. If Boise State comes over now then only one legitimate non-AQ team will be able to finish undefeated.

re: flatlander

Boise wants no part of the MWC, and rightfully so. We all saw that they were not better than a 3rd-4th place team in the MWC last year after losing to the MWC 2nd place team on a neutral field.

They should stay in the WAC where at least they are still the top dog.

Top Programs This Decade

CBS just finished ranking all 120 programs for performance this decade. Results:

Utah #10
Boise #11
TCU #20
BYU #27

Sorry Cougar fans, BYU is the 4th non-BCS team, and only the 3rd MWC team, in the rankings. I guess Cougar fans are officially now the only group who still believes that Utah hasn't blown past your program. The truth lies in the numbers. BYU has 2 teams to hurdle just in their own conference.

S2

To close some of the media-induced misperceptions in about gaps between quality of play, the MWC could follow the lead of the (over-)vaunted SEC and start scheduling 7 or 8 home games with about 80% of OOC games against Div IA schools......

College Fan

One robin doesn't make spring. The MWC & WAC will never make the big show with a automatic bid. Utah had a great year, and it was fun watching them take Alabama apart. Boise had their day in the sun beating Oklahoma in a thriller, but let's face it neither conference could compete against the teams in those conferences week in and week out. All the teams in the MWC & WAC would be bottom feeders in these big conferences.

Real Football Fan

Utah, if you want to be one of the "big boys" then play a schedule like the big boys. Lets take the cupcake teams off the schedule like San Jose State, San Digo State, UNLV New Mexico and replace them with LSU, Georiga, Florida, Alabama or lets go Big 12 Texas, OK, OK State, NE, MO like the SEC and the Big 12 plays these teams every week. That why the MWC will always will be standing at the bottom, looking Up! It is easy to get exited for one big game a year, do it week in and out.

Stop

Stop worrying about the BCS, if you don't win, it doesn't matter, USC has figured out they almost have to go undefeated to get to the national title game. While the SEC teams don't, have you seen their out of conference schedule, its got to be the weakest in the country by far..The MWC better figure out they have to go undefeated just to get to a BCS bowl game, that's just how it is in the west. Its wrong, but with the East coast and SEC bias and voting power that's just the way it is...
Now that ESPN has just signed a billion dollar contract witht the SEC its going to be worse..Its not just the MWC that's getting hurt its the entire west..

Logic

There are two problems with the logic of "College Fan" and "Real Football Fan."

First, if you start with the assumption that New Mexico is bad because they're in the MWC and Georgia is good because they're in the SEC, then on-field performance is meaningless. MWC teams can't prove they're good when they play MWC teams, and SEC teams can't prove they're bad when they play SEC teams. You just start with assumptions and you end with conclusions that back up the assumptions. The MWC proved in its non-conference play last year that it was pretty good.

Second, the MWC isn't necessarily saying it's as good as the SEC or Big 12. It's saying it's at least as good as the Big East. They just want to be recognized as a top-tier conference, not the Number One top conference in the country.
