Holy freaks! You can burn and defile all the copies of The Book of Mormon you want...it's just ink on paper and we can print more. I have never seen such a group of nutballs that get so worked up over the printed page. As long as there are people like this in the world, we will have zero peace.

Wait...

So let me get this right. It's perfectly fine to murder people and burn their possessions, but not to mess up a book?

John Pack Lambert

First off I firmly believe the Book of Mormon is revelaed scripture.
However, the LDS view on the Book of Mormon is not the Muslim view on the Quaran. I agree that this reaction is extreme, but the situation is not analogous.
The Muslims view is that Quaran contains the word that God spoke to Mohammad and is totally perfect as it is written. This is why the Quaran is not tranlated.
On the other hand the Book of Mormon acknoledges it contains mistakes, it has been translated from what it was first wirtten, and in the Doctrine and Covenants we learn the Lord speaks to us in our own language. So our view of scripture and such is very different.
You need to understand the view to understand why things are different.

The Koran is translated. I have a copy in English. They aren't hard to find. I think what you are driving at is the belief held by Muslims that the original Arabic of its native edition is the divine language of heaven. A translation, while approximating its meaning, to a Muslim is not the same thing as reading it in the intended tongue. Fine. We understand it is sacred to them, and that they honor it as God's word. Good on them.

Sooner or later, though, they will have to recognize that others don't, and that this is OK, too. So many of them simply refuse to acknowledge the right of others to believe differently, and to agree to peaceably disagree. I agree that a human life is a poor exchange for a book, no matter how sacred someone thinks it is, or where they believe it came from. This constant rioting and murder because someone offended them is just getting ridiculous! Enough already!

Why does the article say it is rioting "between" Christians and Muslims when it appears that all the activity is against the Christians? That's like breaking up a fight where a bully on the playground is stomping the life out of some poor kid and saythig they were fighting each other.
