the crappy UNreals maybe he could pay back the money he got from local government to build Rio Taco stadium.
As great as the game was for the RSL (off-field) organization and for Utah sports it better just be a wake up call of what Rio Tinto can be for our team.
When Checketts gets his mind on something (i.e. Rio Tinto stadium, all-star game, a team in Utah, his St. Loius projects) he usually gets results...and at times through semi-questionable means. Now he needs to become as determined to make RSL the best on-field team in MLS...just as determined as he has been in past endeavors. Many changes are made to the roster, but this year our team has been poor and at times horrendous. Even last year was nothing more than average during the regular season, but with a stellar playoff run that gave fans a false preception of success.
I hope that is seen. MLS has amazing potential, ask TFC-Seattle-Philly. Do it right Dave or I worry that we could have copied another team's name that would have been more appropriate - The Clippers.
checketts ruined Madison Square garden and the Knicks, then the St. Louis blues and now RSL..everything he touches seems to be great at first and then sours over time....not sure RSL is the best thing for SLC. with all the illegal immigrants in Utah you would think soccer would be huge but it's not. they cannot afford to watch the games.
The All Star Game was a fantastic experience. Loved every minute of it. Great stadium. Terrific crowd. The best players. Wonderful.
On significant criticism: when we left a message at the ticket office, our call was returned by someone that was obviously not having a good day. If you want to draw people to the stadium, make sure they're treated well.
We love having major league soccer in Utah and we hope RSL will continue to thrive. Best of luck.
I really enjoy Checkett's Gateway Times Two development around the stadium. The restaurants, the shops, the bars, the condos, the offices, etc. Excellent development. No wonder the SL County Council voted for the taxpayer subsidies for the stadium after Checkett's presented his Gateway Times Two plans.
I had issues with the way they were getting people into the stadium. The lines were way too long and not enough portals were open. On the Northeast corner there was no organization, people cutting to the front from the stairs, which resulted in it taking almost 20 minutes to get into the stadium.
Another gripe about Utah fans, stay by your sit. I'm not saying to sit for the entire game, but I watched the same people walk up and down the stairs no less than 8 times for some of them. Really? It's a 90 minute game, you can't hold it? Most of the time arms were empty. Other times they would go to their seat and then less than 5 minutes later, back up again.
There could be better prep for handling the crowds, but all around it was a class act.
We love our RSL and we haven't even been successful on the field yet. Imagine when we win the title and are playing in the champions league.
I saw the game on TV, and it looked like everyone had a fantastic time. The game itself was very entertaining. Soccer and MLS are on its way up, slowly, but surely. A whole generation is growing up with the game, and with the demographic changes, soccer is bound to become as big as baseball and football within 20 years or so. It's a number's game, really.
That said RSL wouldn't even draw a crowd, I guess you were wrong.. Live with it.
And the elected officials who were his henchmen in robbing tax dollars are worse.
Rio Tinto now takes events away from Energy Solutions. How is that a good thing? We the taxpayers pay money to rob from one location and give to another, while enriching the pockets of Checketts and his investors. It stinks.
When are we going to get government out of our pocketbooks? I remember when sales tax took the leap from 3% to 4%. I was shocked, appalled. Don't we all long for those days! And what do we have for the increase? Subsidized this, subsidized that. Look, if it isn't good enough to stand on its own, then go improve it, and GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF MY DANG POCKETS.
Stop the complaining! The negative commentators really don't have a clue about how the stadium was funded and who funded what! There is also HUGE support for this team so stop tearing them down with your stupid comments!
