what happens to the the albertsons in Riverton which is across the street from Peterson's, which is associated with Associated Foods?
It's so interesting how Associated Food Stores started as organization to supply independent grocers. Now, they own Macey's and with Albertson's will be in competition with the very organization that put them in business - the Independent grocer.
The Riverton Albertsons is being sold to Associated.
Walmart and it's predatory pricing is the biggest threat to independent stores, no Associated foods.
Looks like another casualty of the stimulus program. WAY TO GO !!
See you at WALMART
Yeah! I hope they get rid of those stupid tv's in the store - I used to shop at Albertson's alot but when they sold to the big chain from MN they have gone down hill. I'm for one am very glad for this sale!
Looks like a trojan horse to me!
Predatory pricing? Now that's funny!
Macey's is my favorite grocery store, I'd love it if they put the Macey's name on a few of them and made their product mix a little more available around the state.
Not from me. I'll buy a few groceries at Walmart - but they don't compete on price or selection if you have half a brain when you shop. Most sale items at the grocery store (Smith's or Associated Food stores - no Albertson's) beat out Walmart consistently. IF an item isn't on sale somewhere, then it might be cheaper at Walmart - specially national brands of packaged goods. Otherwise, not worth it. Stock up on sales, only buy what's on sale unless you can't avoid it, and keep track of how often things go on sale.
I am sorry to see St. George not included in the sale. Darn. My guess that Associated will maybe make the Albertson stores reflect a name that is strong in that area. Now as for two Petersons on the same intersection in Riverton, maybe not, but say in Davis County they could all be Dick's Markets as that is a very big name. Maybe in Utah County they could be Macy's and in Salt Lake County Dan's. Those are huge and popular Utah names. Or they could be like what happened in Arizona when Fry's and Smith's were bought by the same company and they changed everything to just one name, Fry's and got rid of the Smith's name (which was more popular in Nevada, Utah, etc.). This will be a very interesting retail marketing move. Its all in Associated's hands to deal with Wal-Mart and SuperTarget.
Peterson's is NOT an Associated Retail Store it is just a member store meaning it buys its goods from associated it is not ran by Associated. The Associated Retail Stores are Maceys, Dans, Lin's and Dick's. I doubt it will be a Dan's because Associated lost money when they bought Dan's and they shut down a few Dan's for that reason, Lin's and Dicks aren't known well in Salt Lake so my guess would be they will become Maceys which out of the ARS Stores is the Most successfull, or i think they will change all the stores under a single banner like ARS for associated retail store. which would be bad for Maceys due to then they would open on sunday becuase Ken Macey made a deal with Associated that any store under his name would be closed on sunday and would have a giant usa flag in front! changing names would allow them to get away from that.
Thank goodness for Walmart...I routinely save 15% to 20% compared to any other store in town.
I love shopping at Albertsons. Walmart does not save me money, and it's a pain in the neck to shop there. Albertsons just seems so much more like a neighborhood store.
I live less than a mile from one and travel 3 miles to go somewhere else.
Petersons is partly owned by associated! I should know I work there. If things go as planned, Petersons will be moving across the street where Albertsons is currently located.
The stores will be a new store name, it will NOT be a Macey's, Dans or Dicks. Nothing to get to excited about, just another 'peterson' type of store. Shop Maceys!
Business as usual, Smith's Fresh Values- that's my store. :)
I always loved Albertson’s and shopped only there for over 20 years and when they went away from " Joe Albertson’s" format everything went to he.. What a mistake. I do not like the stores here. Smiths was ok but they have had so many recalls lately(sign up with us gov)that if there are any more I probably will give up. Wal-Mart isn't less expensive on meats and I try not to shop there because of the reputation and rarely buy food there but they are very cheap on the ethnic foods. I am trying to change how I eat so I know what I am eating. I have never been thrilled with the western family brand and the produce is usually expensive and bad. what to do? Sunflower is pretty good on produce. I guess I will keep looking
Another casualty of the stimulus program, Davet? Albertson's has been losing market share for several years even before they were mostly acquired by Supervalu, who is having its own financial troubles. This has got nothing to do with the stimulus package but tough competition from Smith's and WalMart. Stop listening to Rush, Bill, Shaun and Glenn and maybe your brain will start functioning normally again.
