I like the idea of Greg Bell. I don't know anyone that can say anything bad about him.
Will Greg have to drop his endorsement of Kevin Fayles for West Valley City Mayor if appointed?
“Kevin is a solid performer. He’s down to earth, but visionary. He manages finances well, too. Impeccably honest and sincere, Kevin will be a fine mayor.”
- Greg Bell, Utah State Senator, District 22
Lt. Gov. Herbert came to a fundraiser for Mike Winder who is running for the same office.
I am still voting for Kevin Fayles for Mayor.
I do really like the idea of Greg Bell as Lt. Gov.
Nice Photo too.
What does Mayor of West Valley have to do with the Lt. Gov anyway?
The point is that Greg Bell isn't from Utah County, is considered more moderate than some, and would be a good person for Gary Herbert to bounce ideas off of.
Will Greg help Gary Herbert win the 2010 Gov. election or hurt him?
What about the others? People have been saying it will be Bell for weeks. I know Herbert is planning on announcing after the confirmation of Huntsman, but I wish we know which he was going to pick.
I would think any of them would be confirmed.
Both Stuart Adams and Gary Herbert are Realtors--- Anyone else see a bit of a conflict here????
Greg is an attorney so that's a definite no for me-- As a legislator an attorney makes the law and as a lawyer he or she works with that law--- definitely a conflict.......
Are you serious? They might all be LDS, is that a conflict? They might all have Golden Labs, is that a conflict?
You look hard enough you can find fault and problems with anyone and anything. No one candidate is going to be perfect. I'm certain if we look into our own mirror long enough we'd see fault within ourselves so let's not drum up the fact that someone is an attorney or that they've sold homes or real estate before as a point of conflict.
Herbert needs balance if he hopes to be elected Goveronr in 2010 and Senator Bell would be an excellent choice. Bell has the respect of the legislature and also brings the experience of the private sector with him.
Governor Herbert lets get off the dime and make the pick...
I was hoping Aaron Tilton could be tagged to help with Utah's nuclear dreams!
Since the Lt. Gov enforces election laws, I think Greg Bell would do a good job.
The real question is when Pres. Obama doesn't win in 2012, and a republican pres picks Gary Herbert to be something in DC, would Greg Bell do a good job?
Stuart is not a "realtor". He is a developer and home builder. There is a difference.
I have known Stuart since he was at Layton City and he is a great person and would do a great job representing this State.
Years ago, Herbert, Bell, and Huntsman were all involved with Envision Utah. Bell replaced Huntsman as the board chairman. Herbert was skeptical that Envision Utah was a liberal organization out to tell people how to plan their communities so he joined the board so he could play watchdog. I wonder if that's where they all first met. There's a conspiracy theory for ya. In any case, I think Bell is a great choice. In fact, I'd prefer him as governor instead of Herbert.
I have met with Stuart on a number of occasions and have been very impressed with him. He would bring a lot to the table
I have known Senator Bell for a number of years and in my opinion he would be an excellent choice.
as long as the person walks the talk, it will all work out.
I was hoping he would pick Chris Buttars.
...running the State of Utah!
Isn't Adams associated with the company who finally pressured Layton City into letting them build homes in the area beset with landslides?
All this will mean is easier rules for developers to run roughshod over the few remaining open lands in Utah.,....without a bit of "smart growth".
I'd rather have Buttars.
Natalie is awesome. Economist, wordsmith, coalition builder. Moderate. She would be amazing on the ticket.
Kevin Fayles and Natalie Gochnour are both connected to Herbert, Bell, and Huntsman through Envision Utah. Fayles is on the EU staff and Gochnour is on the board.
Interesting that a bunch of Republicans develop relationships with each other through a little smart growth non-profit. Makes me think these are the kinds of level-headed folks who can work with stakeholders (even those in opposition) to build concesus and make stuff with widespread buy-in. Kind of the opposite of the bull in the china shop politics of Buttars and Noel and their ilk. I'm warming up to the idea of having Herbert as gov.

None of those things matter. Friends come before qualifications and Greg Bell beats Natalie and all the others on that count. I'm just glad to know that it's not what you know but who you know that really matters. Gary will probably choose his buddy Greg because that's what buddies do for each other.
