Brigham Young grew up in a religious tradition that suggested that dancing and music was sinful. He once said that when he first heard the sweet sound of a violin he thought he was going to hell for sure. He finally decided that music and dancing was too good for the Devil and that it belonged in the Church.

What a great way to connect with the past and remember what people did for wholesome recreation before there was electricity.

I am so glad that the tradition is starting again.
The dances of the past are fading. That is probably why someone thought it was dumb. Knowing our ancestors has to include knowing how they entertained themselves. I personally love square dancing from which we now have many modern line dances that are also fun. I have seen many young
people enjoy themselves with these dances. So perhaps our past can be our present.

Maybe we would have gone to the old hickish dance if the name Brigham wasn't attached to it. Mr. Brigham Young was an old cantankerous man-- to say the very least. I have read his biography. So why paint a happy picture of this person for the good old times? Makes no sense.

What a wonderful way to bring back the past history of the early settlers in the Valley. Brother Brigham must be so very happy of the revival by the Saints. It sounds like a wonderful celebration!

I went and had a great time. My children, boys and girls, between the age of 9 and 14 liked it too.

It sounds like something that would be fun to do in Oregon or other places to clebrate Pioner day or just because. A good ward activiry.
