Great story,it reminds of the greatest movie about the cross of Christ. The Passion of the Christ.
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

I love to hear of anything positive that helps us find our way to Christ and remember Him. Thank you!

I like the symbolism represented in the stations of the cross. I do think one more station might be appropriate is one about the resurrected Lord.

I am a Mormon who finds the Station of the Cross, a beautiful and most powerful meditation and tradition. Here in the Texas Hill country, we also have a wonderful outdoor Stations of the Cross set up for anyone who wants to do the devotional during Holy Week and any other time of the year.

Thank you for printing this wonderful article!

I live in California and have been to most of the missions built by the Spanish Franciscan padres in the late 1700s. I recently revisited Mission San Juan Bautista, one of the best preserved. It has beautiful and ornate Stations of the Cross in the mission chapel, and also a smaller one (more modern, I think) outside in the garden, a perfect setting to contemplate the God of nature.

I agree, this is a wonderful tradition to remind us of Christ and His sacrifice at Gethsemane and Calvary as the center of our faith.'

A few days later I went to Sacrament Meeting in the next town over, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the love that other Christians have for the Lord, and participate in their traditions to the extent that my beliefs allow.

Why are the crosses always on a hill? The gospels say that he was crucified at the "place of the skull" and make no mention of being on top of a hill. I recognize that artwork and video nearly always show a hill. But is this factual?

I would suppose that people would have been crucified along highways in order to increase the shame and humiliation of the victim, which, together with unimaginable pain, was the point of that manner of execution. If the actual site is at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, then there is no hill. If it is adjacent to the garden tomb (and the bus depot), then the skull-shaped rock formation would be behind the crosses.

There is a hill above the place of the skull.
