Couldn't agree with you more Doug. We'll written. I hope a strong movement of fan support will persuade HOF voters to exclude the cheats.

Dale Murphy deserves to be in the HOF.

Doctor,do you know how steroids, HGH,etc increased players performance?

Players in ALL sports have been taking drugs of some kind since the 1950's (Mays, Marris, San Diego Chargers,Steelers, etc)

You want to single out Bonds,Sosa? Bonds lifted 4 hours a day to get stronger (become power hitter)

If Ruth,Mantle, etc had the drugs of today.. Guess who would be taking them to gain an athletic advantage?

Why don't I hear about NFL players and records? They are all pumped up on something..

Barry Bonds is the best hitter I or MLB pitchers have seen, (just ask them) dragging him down because you "think" a drug made him that way is down right silly.

Steriods, PEDs or whatever you want to call them are a media story. Fans don't seem to care anymore. Why are writing this weeks, months, years after it's been an issue. Had you written this when Manny was suspended then it would have been appropriate. No one cares how Reggie Jackson feels about it. It does not make this relevant. This is not evergreen. This story is not brown and dying.

Babe Ruth, Gehrig, and Jackson hit all their home runs on hot dogs and beer. As far as I'm concerned, Ruth and Maris are still the all-time and season home-run record holders.

"How did it alter it" Granted you make some fine points. However, you have to ask yourself, why did they feel the need to take steroids or human growth hormone if they didn't feel as though it would give them a competitive advantage? Both Sosa and mcGwire increased in size dramatically, as did Bonds. You don't get like that by just lifting weights. Harmon Killebrew recently weighed in on the issue, saying that he didn't feel that they belong in the HOF. He was one of the most honest and unassuming players to ever play the game. With the notable exception of Griffey, these players who are in question are some of the most self absorbed clowns I have seen in my 44 years as a fan of baseball.

Good article, I agree with you completely. Bud Selig is a wimp, can you imagine how Judge Kenishaw Mountain Landis would have handled the steriod problem.

Good article. I agree also. Jackson is such a legend along with the other players who didn't have to take drugs to be a great player. It's not fair to soil his amazing rep. with players passing him on the list. Go Reggie! Keep speaking your mind.

I'm right there with you. Mr. October's argument is as legit as it gets. Not only are modern players blessed with advanced weight room technology, which in itself has led to bigger and stronger frames, but they have also been blessed to play in the supplement era, in which every athlete is pushing something. Players in the past had push-ups, sit-ups, and chicken...and that's about it. Thanks for speaking out Reggie, I look forward to seeing you on the field again during the sports legends challenge!

Give it a rest. You would be hard pressed to field a team in any era where there were no drugs of any type being used. Performance enhancing or not drugs are bad I would almost guarantee that even Mr. October himself has tried some type of drug at one point. Like I have said before if everyone is cheating is it still cheating?
