This looks fun.

Once they learn to ski, they can come here to Utah to spend their tourist dollar skiing the best snow on earth.

A "thoba and gutha" or a "thong and toga"?

How can this exist in a world when millions die each day? What a waste of energy and money in the middle of a DESERT!

This is nothing compared to the "World Islands" they built in Dubai. Look that up if you want to see a lot of money and effort wasted. But hey I guess it's there money and they can do what they want with it. Some of the happiest people on earth are those who live in the poorest countries. Even though I agree that malnutrition, malaria, hunger etc. needs to be eradicated some how.

& seen it. It is amazing but an opulance beyond reason. Too much money and time will bring this kingdom down in the end.

Dubai is the richest city on Earth...the money spent for this thing is nothing to what that city has.

Dubai built their house upon oil.

Dubai is thinking ahead because thier oil is drying up. They have been working on becoming an entertainment capital for the last 20 yrs. A very smart move.

Its quite a wondeful place to visit.

It doesn't seem that there is any recession or economic downturn in this part of the world based on how they spend their money. And we here in America with our gas guzzlers are feeding their spending frenzy...Aawwwshucks! Maybe Dubai today, and Goo'bye tomorrow!

May have cost a lot of money, but to the military and civilian contractors in Afghanistan and Iraq it is a welcome relief for a little of R&R. My son spent approximately 3 years over there in Afghanistan and Iraq as both military and civilian and when he got a little break he would go to Dubai and he used this ski facility. He had a great time and it reminded him of the great snow we have here in Utah. I myself am glad it is there for their use.

Ski Dubai is a wonderful place for those who want to learn to ski, those who know how to ski, and those who are not able to enjoy the natural snow while living in the Middle East.

They may spent a lot of money getting this resort. They must of purchased a lot of solar pannels that will last a long time and with the heat they get will keep their electricity going and going etc.
get some perspective | 2:03 p.m. July 23, 2009
to the complainer above:

i dunno how much Ski Dubai cost to build, but a similar indoor ski slope was built in Japan for $400 million. sounds like a lot, but our own Rio Tinto Stadium cost $115 million to build. in the case of Ski Dubai, there obviously is no similar facility anywhere in the vicinity. we have numerous stadiums in Utah that can host soccer games.

the new Cowboys Stadium (where the Y will play next month) cost well over $1 billion.

I wonder what the carbon foot print is for making and maintaining all that snow in the desert region?

The quad chairlift at Ski Dubai travels over a black-diamond run, on the right, and a beginning run, on the left. Both runs are fairly short: 1,200 feet, with a vertical drop of 203 feet — small by Utah standards.
