mark-exaclty mr. harmon!!!you finally figured out why no one outside of provo accepts byu's '84 supposedly champ team!....go frogs!!!
-texas aggie
Why mention the fact that TCU beat BYU "to win the championship" in 2005?
TCU went 8-0 that year. BYU went 5-3. Regardless of the outcome of that OT game in Provo, TCU wins the championship. As Harmon mentioned, Utah was picked to win it in 2005. TCU also beat Utah in OT that year. So, why isn't that game just as noteworthy as the OT game in Provo?
It seems strange mentioning the TCU/BYU battle in Provo as being for the championship. The game was in September also.
He is not afraid?
Hmm...what is his record against Utah?
"I picked TCU based on how impressed I was with how the Horned Frogs handled BYU last year," said voter Darnell Dickson of the Provo Daily Herald. "That has to be a big advantage going into the 2009 meeting. They also should have beaten Utah."
But they didn't. This is the same type of excuse making crap that we get from Utah County. When is a reporter from that area going to be credible and honest? Like Washington should have beaten YBU but didn't because of a late celebration penalty on the home team.
What worthless blither from a sports writer! Where do the blue bloods come up with such weak arguments ? The last time I looked the, " would ev ", " should ev ",and "could ev " excuses went south with Uncle Ramos and that little Sambo kid.
" A kiss is but a kiss , a sigh is but a sigh" , a win is but a win.. a loss is but a loss as time goes by.
Stop with the excuses already !
BYU beat Colorado State last year 42-45 Colorado State should have won the game but didn't.... Sounds pretty lame , would you agree ?
How sweet it is going to be when the Cougars prove the coaches wrong as they destroy the rest of the MWC on the way to their second NC on the 25th anniversary of their first NC.
So basically this was an article used to allow bitter Cougar-fan writers to take a shot at Utah. Claiming that TCU should have beat the Utes last year. Claiming that TCU's thrilling OT win over BYU in 05 gave them the MWC title, even though they were 8-0 while BYU finished 5-3.
I guess the envy in the bubble has even extended into the writers gallery.
I wouldn't sweat the media's opinion of the Utah-TCU game. It's not like they actually WATCHED the game. The media who DID watch the game, as well as the color commentators, all noted that 1/2 of the Frog's offensive production occurred in the 1st qtr [one of which came by way of 2 offensive P.I.s to sustain the drive]. After Coach Anderson made some adjustments, the Utes shut them out the remainder of the game. Everyone who watched that game [which won't include fans from the tdS since everybody knows they don't watch or read about any team outside of Provo] knows the Utes were the better team that day. The Frogs were only the better team for the 1st 15 min.
I don't have a problem with TCU being picked 1st. We're currently tied with TCU in 1st place at 0-0. So it's still anybody's season.
Except for the "why?" of course. They can't win the big game.
No Dick, it is that you and you're friends are clueless, 3 out of 10 proves your usefullness. It sounds like your old chronies from the Herald are still distraut over Utah beating TCU last year. One thing is for certain BYU definitely should not have beaten TCU or UTAH.
Global warming is quite a bit more scientific than guessing who will win football games.
"Pesky Air Force can trip up about anyone, just ask AFA."
Huh???
We have Max HAll so noone can come close to us.
"The last time I looked the, " would ev ", " should ev ",and "could ev " excuses went south with Uncle Ramos and that little Sambo kid."
I'm sure it will go back up north after another Utah loss to the cougars. It was certainly there after the 2006 and 2007 losses.
RE: Homer
How about your Utes "shoulda, coulda, woulda" won the national title last year. It seems that kind of thinking runs in the red blood as well. Utah earned everything they got last year, but Utah was very fortunate TCU missed a 35 yard field goal. The odds favor most teams in that TCU situation. How about Ryan K's missed field goal klunker against BYU. "Shouldn't" the Utes have won that game? Absolutely, but they didn't. Saying that TCU should have won the game last year "shouldn't" be offensive to Ute fans.
As a bystander to the banter, it certainly rings true that excuses certainly always hail from Provo. Yes the Utes should have won the championship if you were into comparisons. The Ute team of last year "could uv" beat the 84' BYU team by at least 3 or 4 touchdowns.
BYU the excuse factory. No longer a QB factory, just excuses.
Let me guess the excuses and explanations this year . . . BYU "will be" good in 4 or 5 years when they get their QB. Well way to look toward the future:)
the odds also favor a team that has made it a 2 score game with less than 2 minutes to go, but Utah was able to win, and last time I checked, kicking field goals was part of the game. If you miss them, then sports writers should not write that you should have won!
sThere is no such thing as "should have won the game."
Every excuse - missed field goal, QB interception, poor defense, basically everything that prevented TCU from beating Utah - is in reality a function of the skill and execution of the coaches and players.
If TCU had Sakoda instead of their loser, they might have won. If TCU had Brian Johnson in the last two minutes instead of their guy that choked, they might have won. If TCU had pressed on D in the last 2 minutes like Utah did, they might have won. Basically, if TCU had Utah's players and coaches, they might have won.
Keep in mind the missed field goal was not the last play of the game, and it only would have sent it into overtime. Following the miss, Utah drove the length of the field and scored, then stopped TCU from doing the same. Utah was the best 2 minute drill team in the country last year because they practice it like crazy. This game was not a fluke; the best team won.
There is no "should have won" in sports.
Stadium has a signed painted on it which says "National Champions"?
Just one I believe. So no one in charge at Utah beleives they won anything last year. In fact if some of the drunk ute fans were to sneak in and paint it for them, the NCAA would MAKE them remove it. So leave in your dream world utes, it is about to come crashing down.
Global warming equals LESS science than the media picking the winners of the MWC!
With that said, BYU may not win the conference but I'm confident that they will beat TCU and UT.
UT will have at least 3 losses.
You little brothers up North are in for a long season. Your defense will still be good, but you won't get much production out of your offense and you won't have Sakoda to save you with his placekicking and punting skills so the field position battle will always go to the other team. The Y will beat you this year, without a doubt. Watch out for your season opener. Those Aggies might be ready to play this year.
TCU will dominate everyone in the MWC next year. They have a #1 defense and their offense will look like it belongs in the ACC. Im glad Im not playing them next year.
Boy, Dick Harmon says one short phrase - "should have" and many Ute fans blow a fuse. Seems many fans of the team up north are just a little too sensitive. If you think your program is good, then show some confidence and stop crying foul about every little statement. There was no offense intended in Dick's statements, so don't take offense.
