Why make them wards of this country? Just send them back to mexico where they belong with their families. It's deplorable that these foreign children are abandoned by their parents, so make them responsible for the care and well being in Mexico.
This push by DCFS to get more federal funds will make Judge Valdez' courtroom busy, since he's the appointed Latino representative. Buyer Beware.
Our government has a penchant for programs that hurt rather than help, yet it seems they are impossible to unravel once they are in place.
Just a couple of possibilities with this one:
1) Poor screening of the foster homes permits abuse of children and immigration violations.
2) Families deliberately leaving their children here. I mention Flor Crisostomo, harbored in a church in Chicago to avoid deporation. SHE HASN"T SEEN HER OWN CHILDREN IN NINE YEARS! She came here to work. She sends money home. But she lives here.
Of course, the possible malfunctions of such a program are endless, but these two come readily to mind.
