Awesome!

I like how Utah recruits athletes.

"athlete" Darian Lazard (Pearland, Texas)... and "athlete" Joseph Smith (Norco, Calif.)

These guys could be triple jumpers or shot putters for all we know.

TheHailstorm

Sounds like another tough , good pick for the Utes. I like the fact that we have 14 scholarships still available and we haven't burned them up at fire sale speed. I think YBU has 5 left with an upcoming senior and JC season yet to evaluate.
I just like the sound of this new recruit from Texas. You have to love a guy that plays both running back and linebacker at a school named Industrial High.Sounds a little smash mouth to me.

Athlete Bob

i would just like to say that i enjoyed seeing Athlete so and so listed...

good recruit!

If only he knew the Utes will only win 5 games this year instead of the National Championship Kyle told him he wouldn't have made this terrible mistake.

Styxx stixx

Where's the base recruiting for Utah? Most of these commits are from TX and CA; only one from UT. Are they losing badly on the home front recruiting war or just choosing to look elsewhere? Just asking.

DRLL

Well, not much information about this guy. Not exactly a barn burner announcement.

I love it...

Joseph Smith playing for the Utes! That's going to go over well at BYU.

Industrial High School? What an odd name. What's their mascot? Grease Monkeys?

Ernest T. Bass

With these recruits Utah should win the national championship easily.

Observer

Styxx has a good question. Has Utah decided to pass on in state talent for 2010? Is this an anomaly or a trend? If it is a trend, it may not bode well in the future for two reasons. It may not get the local fence sitters on board and it will ignore an ever increasing talent base in state. That said, recruiting is never an exact science.

Looks Like a great pickup!

Runs a 4.5 forty and recieved an offer from TCU as well as recruited by Texas A&M and K State. When TCU has the kid on their radar (as well as the other big ten programs) and he chooses UTAH thats a great sign! Way to go Coach Whit and Morgan Scalley...keep signing kids from Texas and California, as well as the Studs locally (Kruger, Filiaga etc). Future looks bright!

re hailstorm: do u get we have 15 scholarships left

Slow-Mo

Tex & Cali = SPEED!!! Anyone who has watched college football the last few years knows that speed kills. After watching the speed of the SEC destroy the "power" of the Big 10 & 12 for years, everyone but Bronco knows that to compete nationally you have to get speedy guys who have played in big time high school football.

YBU is doing the opposite and seems to have adaopted the "Slow-Mo" strategy. Get as many slow mormons as possible. That is why their DBs get embarrassed by any decent team. Those Mormon boys might be tough, but they are slow...and they will get exposed by overall team speed everytime. Maybe that's why Max Hall couldn't stop throwing INTs in the Utah game...he wasn't used to a DB that run that fast.

To Styxx stixx,

Byu can have the recruits from Utah and Utah will continue to cull the best and brightest from California and Utah. I would have thought that Byu would have learned by now that you only can go so far with Provo High recruits.

Former Texan

"You have to love a guy that plays both running back and linebacker at a school named Industrial High.Sounds a little smash mouth to me."

I remember these guys back in my H.S. playing days in South Texas. Industrial High DOES play smashmouth football. Their program runs the Wing-T. Industrial is a District power, but all told, they are a 2A school. They're smaller than Judge Memorial. This kid sounds like a gamer, but the most likely reason he plays both RB and LB wouldn't be because he's THAT GOOD, but because at small schools it isn't at all uncommon for students play more than one position.

Don't look to find a lot of stars behind his name when he signs, because even in Texas, 2A athletes rarely get rated above 2. TCU wanted him too, so you know he must be good. The low star power may actually work in our favor. It keeps him off Texas, Tx Tech, and Tx A&M's radar. Coach Schramm will likely coach him up, and prove him to be another Ute diamond-in-the-rough.

I like this one.

GO UTES!!!

FACTS (according to ESPN)

BYU Committments for 2010

-8 of 20 are from Utah (nearly half)

Players considering BYU (2010)

-of the 24 players considering BYU, 6 are from Utah
-BYU has NO committments OR players considering BYU from TX

UTAH committments for 2010

-1 out of 11 is from Utah (Kruger)

-The rest are from CA (4) and TX (5)

Players considering Utah (2010)

-of the 52 players considering Utah(2010), 8 players are from Utah.

*Note* according to ESPN, 8 players are considering both Utah and BYU. Those 8 players are both from in and out of state.

Based on these numbers, however accurate, indicate that Utah has clearly place a HIGH priority on recruiting Texas and CA. and only pursue the best players in Utah. The fact is, winning the in state recruiting battle DOES NOT translate into wins and conference championships. If the Utes lose the in state battle and continue to dominate TX and CA they will be just fine. Kudos to the Y for getting so many in state kids. It's a great place to go to school, and as a die hard Utah fan I would have no problem sending my sons there.

re: Styxx

This years class of instate kids isn't on par with last years, when the Utes picked up some very good talent. Kruger has committed to the Utes, and Kafusi to the Cougars. Other than that the Badger kid is going to ND. The biggest fish left to hook are Heimuli and Afo, both DT, which the Utes stacked up heavily on last year.

Don't fret too much on the instate kids this time around. If instate kids are talented, they'll get a look. If there isn't much difference in talent, I'll take the kids from Cali and Texas. Speed wins.

The Utes hit the O-Line and D-Line heavy last recruiting season, which included good instate guys, but this year are looking for more skill positions and secondary help. The place to get those skills are Texas and California.

Re: Good recruit

If only you had an ounce of football knowledge.

5 games? Put your money where your mouth is and list your name and e-mail address. When the end of the season comes we'll see about 5 wins.

Kyle doesn't have to promise National Championships ... just that they won't go to the Vegas Bowl and lose to a pathetic PAC-10 team.

RE: FACTS (according to ESPN)

Ross Apo is from Texas
Ross Apo is from Texas
Ross Apo is from Texas
Ross Apo is from Texas

Get your facts straight

re: good recruit

Correction. The only person talking about national championships is a high school junior, who won't see the football field at BYU for 4 years.

And if Kyle had spoken of a NC to anyone he'd be well within his right. His team has actually accomplished something on a national stage in the last 2.5 decades.
