Chadders | 3:52 p.m. July 20, 2009
Congrats to Locke. He fits in well with the Jazz organization.
OH NO!! | 3:54 p.m. July 20, 2009
I really hope this doesn't happen. I cannot stand listening to Locke's radio show because of his egotistical know-it-all attitude.
Brandon | 3:58 p.m. July 20, 2009
I will no longer listen to radio broadcasts of Jazz games. He is pretty good, all you have to do is ask him. Klauke should have been the guy. Mistake has been made.

Locke couldn't cut it calling games for the WNBA Seattle Storm. How will he do with the Jazz?
Superdell is my poolboy | 4:09 p.m. July 20, 2009
Sorry but I couldn't listen to that guy talk through a whole game. His voice just has a very harsh tone to it.
Joe K. | 4:15 p.m. July 20, 2009
Congrats Locke. We miss you in Seattle.

You're going to do a great job with the Jazz!
jbra80 | 4:16 p.m. July 20, 2009
Why not just use Boller and Boone for both like Hundley and Boone used to do? I, for some reason, listened to that Toronto game he called and it was nothing but meaningless weird stats the whole game. At least give Locke a color guy so he won't have to be the 'Expert'. This is just going to give him a bigger ego than he already has.
Radio only? | 4:22 p.m. July 20, 2009
I am hoping this is for Radio only. He is as annoying as anyone I have ever listened to. When he was here in Utah befor he left to go to Seattle? sports radio became much more plesant. I hope I dont have to hear him on my television!!!
NOOOOooo!!! | 4:22 p.m. July 20, 2009
Oh man, I have to listen to David Locke??? Can it get any worse?
I'm Locked on Jazz! | 4:29 p.m. July 20, 2009
Great choice. David Locke is the most knowledgeable sports guy I have ever heard. Tons of prep goes into every show. The mother of all stat geeks! Better than DJ, and not as annoying. Combined with Locked on sports, Jazz broadcasts will be awesome. I will not miss Hot Rod for long. "It's all over here almost"! Cal Kover for three!! Bye Bye Hot Rod, Hello David Locke!!

(standing ovation!!!)
At least I don't have to.... | 4:31 p.m. July 20, 2009
hear "The Jazz Radio Basketball Network" anymore.

CONGRATS DAVID LOCKE!!
Big Rock | 4:31 p.m. July 20, 2009
Really? There isn't anyone better?
Lousy | 4:31 p.m. July 20, 2009
Go back and find another! Klauke would be better and Utah actually likes this guy.
good news | 4:35 p.m. July 20, 2009
Locke on!!!
It's official | 4:37 p.m. July 20, 2009
I will now, not ever, and I me ever, forever, listen to another Jazz game. Locke is the most obnoxious announcer, most arrogant, ever. Well, with the exception of Carl Arky or Dave Fox, so I guess it could have been worse. But still, bad enough to keep me away forever, and I mean ever.
Big Jazz Fan | 4:46 p.m. July 20, 2009
I am disappointed in the selection of Locke. I do not like Locke and will never listen to him.
Blah! | 4:52 p.m. July 20, 2009
I knew this was coming, but I am not looking forward to hearing Locke on the radio. I feel they could have picked someone better.
todd from santa ana | 4:56 p.m. July 20, 2009

Mike | 5:04 p.m. July 20, 2009
Heaven help us. We're going to need a spreadsheet to track all the numbers.
Gag | 5:07 p.m. July 20, 2009
Just 1 more reason to not care about this franchise. Arrogant, blowhard, etc. College football is all this state has for sports.
Chris | 5:18 p.m. July 20, 2009
Live this. Cangrats Dave! He's the only broadcaster in this state who loves the jazz as much as I do! Awesome.
todd from santa ana | 5:20 p.m. July 20, 2009
thanks to the editing job, so sorry disagree with chadders on this one, I will make sure there are alternative sources following my team
RustyDude | 5:22 p.m. July 20, 2009
They should either simulcast the TV broadcast by Bolerjack, like they used to do with Hot Rod, or get someone else. Very poor choice!
Matt Pinto | 5:36 p.m. July 20, 2009
David Locke is a bad choice for the Jazz play-by-play announcer. Too much ego to succeed in this market. Go back to Seattle.... oh wait, they fired you after one year in this same position.
Kris | 5:36 p.m. July 20, 2009
Bad choice. He won't relate to the Jazz fan base.
OOPS | 5:37 p.m. July 20, 2009
This has not been a good offseason for the Jazz. First we get stuck with Boozer and now Locke... too much for me. Both have egos that outstrip their talent.
Bad Form | 5:38 p.m. July 20, 2009
BOOOOOOOO!!!!!
just watch tv | 5:38 p.m. July 20, 2009
Good move. It's always hard to follow a legend. So not many people are going to like whoever it is anyways and this guy stinks. Once he gets moved out they go and get a better guy and it'll be a lot easier on him since he's following this guy and not a legend. And that's the way the cookie crumbles
James | 5:39 p.m. July 20, 2009
I admit that Locke might not be the best choice for this job, but I guess this is all the Jazz could do on short notice. Maybe they got him for a really cheap rate to save costs. Makes sense, right?
re; jbra80 | 5:40 p.m. July 20, 2009
The NBA no longer allows simulcasts. That's why the Jazz don't do it anymore.
BIASED!!! | 5:44 p.m. July 20, 2009
Utah's most biased sports figure just signed a contract to become an even bigger homer. How can Locke be critical of Jazz decisions or personel now when he will be on every trip with them and eats from the same trough.

This is not good news for Utah's sports scene. If he were leaving his radio show, maybe. But he can't be a good sports radio guy and the play-by-play guy too.
BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | 5:45 p.m. July 20, 2009
Go back to Seattle.
Steve | 5:53 p.m. July 20, 2009
Wow, sounds like people aren't ready for a play by play guy that can actually bring relevance to a broadcast. He doesn't have the best voice, but he makes the game exciting and you won't hear a dejected "unbelievable" every other position. I love klauke as well, but this is Locke's sport (unlike baseball for Klauke), and he's more intelligent about the game than 99% of the people out there, and 100% more intelligent than anyone on these boards.

Sounds like everyone wanted BLAND to me. That's why they have Greg Wrubell and Jake Scott for your enjoyment.
Ahhh NUTZZ... | 6:00 p.m. July 20, 2009
Hate that guy....ever since Lock said Brevin Knight was twice the player Andre Miller was......
EEEEGGGGGGOOOOOOOO | 6:03 p.m. July 20, 2009
EGOMANIAC!
Yes | 6:15 p.m. July 20, 2009
Very good news. I know most of the uneducated don't like listening to his stats and trends, but for those of us diehards who care about those things, Locke is great.

I couldn't have picked anyone better.
jake jacobson | 6:29 p.m. July 20, 2009
The only person I think is worse that PK and DJ in the morning, you guessed David big mouth Locke! The Jazz made a poor decision, and he has to follow the best ever HOT ROD.
Awful Call | 6:38 p.m. July 20, 2009
Hot Rod was great and it was terrible when he left TV, but replacing him with David Locke...this is bad news for Jazz fans.
Observation-ist | 6:43 p.m. July 20, 2009
Congratulations David (what's your real name?) Perhaps now you'll have insight into some defensive statistics (deflections, ...) that you could share.
Jeff L. | 6:46 p.m. July 20, 2009
This hire will make it VERY easy for my family and I to keep the radio off. We have listened to our last Jazz game until Locke is gone. Poor job.
I'm out | 7:00 p.m. July 20, 2009
I agree with most everyone here. I won;t be listening to games on the radio anymore. If I can't see it on TV, then I'll just check scores on the internet. I don't care for his show much, and I can't imagine that his performance on the radio will be any different. The only plus will be that like Hot Rod he'll be alone and will not ahve anyone to feed off of unless they give him Ben Bagley as a sidekick there as well.

Hopefully his daily show is now done so he can focus on his new job.
I must be uneducated..... | 7:09 p.m. July 20, 2009
I don't like the pick. Never did. There's a reason he left the first time...and a reason he had to come sneaking back after Karl Malone was gone. Other than he's pompous and loves hearing himself talk, he's really not any good at play-by-play.
Not a Lockheim fan! | 7:30 p.m. July 20, 2009
I'm not sure about the story of game with dad and the I want to be a jazz broadcaster. Sounds good on paper except that when he hit utah with "the score" he was David Lockheim and the station preached anti-jazz and failed miserable. All of a sudden he bacame a jazz fan and then a sonic fan and then a jazz fan again. Can you say, highest bidder. By a huge majority, most all are turned off by his arrorgance. I do owe him a lot because he played a major role in curing my talk radio habit. His arrorgance overwhelms. giant "looke at me, pretty face" ego. I watched a Steve K Bees telecast and he had locke as the color guy. Terrible. Locke ruined the show. Tried to talk down to Steve about baseball. Quoting Hot Rod, Unbelievable!! Spend way too much time advertising his show. I agree with others, the Jazz have no money to pay for quality so they stay in house for hopefully peanuts.
As for me, it now must be TV or bust and read about the game after the fact on the net.
Annie | 7:38 p.m. July 20, 2009
Congrats, David! I trust you will bring passion and optimism to the Jazz games along with true reporting and, perhaps, a guest spot with Hot Rod Hundley alongside you for a game or two (or more). Of course, we all love Hot Rod, but times change and we move on, reluctantly. Good luck in your new career pursuit. Let's hope you will be saying many times "it's in and the score is up ____ points!!" I love the Jazz, and it's obvious that you do as well. Go Jazzboys!!!
Jeff | 7:51 p.m. July 20, 2009
Wow, I had no idea he was going to bring Locke on for this. Who did not see this happening? Locke is the Reason I purchaed XM radio..... Hot Rod the legend gets replaced with this clown?
OUCH | 8:00 p.m. July 20, 2009
Locke is AWFUL. If this is the best the Jazz can get they are in real trouble. Only one worse would have been Steve Brown. I won't be listening to Locke anytime soon.
David | 8:11 p.m. July 20, 2009
Everyone here who hates Locke: Your reasons are garbage! Yes, he can be slightly arrogant, but to act like he is not the most compelling radio personality in the SLC market is ridiculous. There is a reason why his show is ranked No. 1 in the market. He is extremely professional and well-prepared. He challanges his audience. I often disagree with him but that makes it more fun! Stop hating on the guy for stupid Utah reasons. Most of the messages and comments on this board border on ridiculous when it comes to personnel moves, or how a franchise is run. It's obvious in listening to Locke that he is a passionate fan of the Jazz. To question that is just dishonest, Locke was a fan in his first stint here as well. So much ingnorance in these comments it's astounding..

David
David | 8:14 p.m. July 20, 2009
And to say Klauke would be better really shows the ignorance. Klauke knows nothing about basketball. His style is much better suited to baseball. "It's up there, it's out there, it's in for three!! " lol.
Gretkzy | 8:25 p.m. July 20, 2009
wow. that's awesome. Congratulations!!! you do a great job on your radio show too. you and Gordon Monson are the best sports journalists in the radio market.
Derek R | 8:25 p.m. July 20, 2009
Locke will be awesome. He is animated and knowledgeable. What is there not to like? You who are negative on this,(probably Utes), you want someone boring? Who would you rather have? I look forward to Locke's first patented phrase. Boler came up with "money" for Memo. Hot Rod came up with lot's like "a gentle push and a mild arch" or "frozen rope". Locke will be awesome. Congratulations Locke.
