Dryers DO Shrink Clothes...

Sorry, Mary Beth, but the dryer most certainly does shrink clothes.

I suppose if we bought one of the new-fangled dryers with the moisture sensor (how long do THOSE last?) we could expect to pull our clothes out slightly damp as a result. What do ya do then? Hang 'em up to let them finish drying, of course!

Which is what I already do! We use the lowest heat setting on our dryer and I can tell you from years of experience: the tumbling action alone is very rough on fabrics and will cause shrinkage. Using a clothes dryer is extremely hard on clothing. Just consider where all the lint comes from on your lint trap! That's your clothing getting worn out from the dryer!

I machine dry pants and some shirts, but most clothes get line-dried and have lasted literally for years, fitting well and looking new the entire time. It's nice getting rid of clothes because they're out of style instead of ruined/shrunk by the dryer in just months!

I use plastic hangers so there's plenty of room on the clothes line. And we save a bundle on our electric bill!

I agree with the above letter. Personal experience shows me a lot more than this article did.

I hang almost everything on the line. And ANY conservation efforts help!

I agree with the previous two writers. And I'm certain that my dryer shrinks clothes. As I eat a bag of Oreo's while waiting for the laundry to dry, I am guaranteed that they will shrink.
