Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends...or his sons.

I'm sitting here and all I can do is weep for this family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Hero

This man is a hero, he gave his life for his boys. I can't think of anything more honorable. What a great, great father.

I am so sorry. How sad the extended family had to witness this. I cannot imagine anything more horrific. I hope they will all heal with time.

I thank Heavenly Father that Christ's resurrection is real and this family will be together again on resurrection day. Until then I pray that the family will be able to have the strength to get through this trial. As well as the needed money since the provider died.

Hero

A real hero.

Soldier

SGT Peterson, was my NCO while serving overseas. His act of selflessness, examples how he lived his life. SGT Peterson was the best man I ever knew.

If we could only turn back the clock and do that day over again.

Greater love hath no man than this, "that he lay down his life for his (sons)." This brought tears to my eyes and compassion to my heart, May Heaven encircle this family in bountiful love,

We send our prayers

Our family sends our thoughts and prayers to the family of such a great man.

My brother in-law and his father were the two men who jumped in to save Scott and his two sons. if it weren't for these two men the two boys might not be here. they are also hero's and they also deserve BIG credit! they did everything they could for Scott. Nothing but time and god's will, will heal our sorrows. I love this family. Thanks for all the positive comments!

May the Lord bless his family and give them comfort. As a father, I often wonder how I would react to this type of situation. I would only hope I could be as loving and dedicated a man.

Thanks to all have made kind comments on this story. I have read about this tragedy at several other news sites and it sickens me to read some of the insensitive and cold-hearted comments from the Monday morning quarterbacks. Don't they realize that family and friends of this great man will read them?

I know of this sweet family and the trials that this young mother has to face is huge. She, is of course, going to need a lot of help to raise her young sons. Financially and emotionally. Perhaps we could put ourselves in gear to lighten other's burdens and not worry about what "should or could have been done".

Victory Through Christ

I am so sorry for your loss. I have 4 kids, 2 of which are boys and would do the same thing in an instant!

May God bless you and keep you.

I share with you my witness that through the power and love of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, that you will one day be reunited together again as a family.

Indeed, greater love hath no man that he should give his life for another....

This is such a tragic incident. I know if the father would do it over, he would do the exact same thing. As sad as this is, things happen for a reason and God has a plan. Never ask yourself what if. No one is to blame. May God give your family strength to get through the tough times ahead.

Heartfelt condolences

This father is a hero. These boys will always remember that their father loved them enough to give his own life to save theirs. And the other people that jumped in to save the boys at the last minute are also heroes in their own right.

I am glad that I could be there for you while they were getting Scott. I only wish that I could have done more but just sitting by you and listening was all I could give and I hope that it helped. My heart and tears are with you during this time and the hard times to come.

What a Noble man !!! I feel that at any natural father would do the same in the same instance for their sons or daughter or anyone of their family.

God gave me the wisdom and insight to save a young boys life earlier in my life. The lifeguard at the pool was not paying attention and I was the only one who saw the little boy go under. I owe my attentiveness that day wholely on the Lord to assist me with that duty.

I highly commend the Father and other 2 men who put their lives on the line in that cold, dark dangerous lake. They shall be Blessed from the Heavens for their heroic duty and Love for their fellow men/boys. God Bless the family and friends for Eternity.

I had a very dear friend that this recently happened to also, he tried to save his teenage son and ultimately drowned. What heart-wreching tragedies, especially for the young ones that watch it happen. Try as they might, that horrible guilt seems to follow them. Poor, sweet precious babies, God bless them... and the family and friends left behind. My heart and prayers are with you. If it weren't for the miracle of the Atonement, I think we would all die of grief and loneliness at hideous times like these.
