I'm excited to see Millsap back. He has improved every year he has been here and still has some more upside. Hopefully the money won't soften him, he seems to have a great work ethic and desire to win. Great job to the Jazz for making this happen!
Great day for the Jazz and a great challenge for Paul who now will be expected to step up to a larger role on the team. Paul has the attitude and work ethic to be a real team player and should be able to meet that challenge. I wish Paul and his teammates success in the coming seasons.
is replacing Boozer. All of last year we saw how well that worked while Boozer was out. The Jazz are weaker.
When Boozer returned he was not 100% and they were weaker still. If Millsap has a good back up, if he can run the pick and roll, if his shooting improves. The Jazz may make the transition.
The easy part of that is getting a good back up. Okur also has to stay healthy. Boozer can't back up C now.
Koufos is the unknown. Can he back up PF? He probably can back up C but can he start when Okur is out?
Millsap will rebound about as well as Boozer but someone has to produce another 5-7 points. When Boozer was out, Okur and AK's production went up a couple of points.
CJ is another wild card. Will his production go up? If not maybe he needs to be replaced? Brewer needs Boozer to open space for him to attack. That is another issue.
The Jazz need to add outside shooting to open up the middle. They also need to add team defense.
They need improvement at SF/SG and back up PF.
The Jazz should just gracefully back out of next season, apparently.
Why can't Boozer back up center? I'm at a loss?
Boozer could be back on the roster this season.
You seem a little premature in your comments, it's not like we are in the middle of the season, now.
Who do the Jazz add to improve SF/SG, and backup at PF?
Having Boozer come in as a backup C is out of the question. He doesn't play defense, that is why! If they keep Boozer through the Feb trade deadline he starts, he is better than Millsap now and that is all that matters. Millsap could become better if he learns to shoot (shouldn't a guy do that in high school or college?) but he isn't better this year. They are both undersized bigs who have to work to get a shot down low and bang for rebounds. Having Boozer at C and Millsap at PF and guarding say Gasol and Bynum would be a slaughter. Let's all just suffer through next year and hope for a great pick from O'Conner with the Knicks pick.... I hate being a Jazz fan
We'll be worse without Boozer for the short term, but we got as far as we could with him. With AK almost out of here and the Knick's pick next offseason, things are looking up.
When did Boozer ever open up the middle for Brewer? The strengths of both of their games is around the basket. If anyone spreads the floor its Okur, Korver (when his shooting is on), and Williams (when he is hitting jumpers instead of attacking the basket).
The Jazz need a shooter now unless they plan on starting Korver.
Dwill, Price, Maynor
Shooter,Korver,Cj
Brewer, Harp
Millsap, Ak
Okur,Koufos,Fez
If we cant trade boozer for a shooter then trade him for some salary dumb and a draft pick so it matches the 75% trade range and then offer Odom..
Boozer will be gone and the Millsap will start.
I have no problem with Boozer playing even all year if it is working. However, given the current climate. I suspect Boozer is going to be gone as soon as the Jazz decide if they want money or if they can get the players they want.
At this point it is not clear how much tax they are willing to pay. They could still use their MLE, Harp's, Boozer's or Korver's contracts to get players in fire sales at mid season.
As far as who should be picked up at SG/SF and PF. I would suggest younger players (2-4th year)who have a lot of potential who are not overpaid. If they do not work they can be traded. Or vets with expiring contracts.
The cap is dropping next year and 70 % of the teams will be dumping players. Utah will not pay the lux tax for 5 years. Use the next 2 years to get the right combination of players who can win.
The Jazz have moved forward when they took risks (Korver, Boozer/Okur). The right PF is the hardest decision (not Millsap).
Weaker with Millsap replacing Boozer? May you be reminded that the Jazz end of season collapse did not happen with Millsap starting...rather not long after Boozer returned from his "injury."
All the Jazz have succeeeded in doing is pay more for same result.
And the Jazz management CONTINUE to over PAY and OVER value, the talent on their team,
and CONTINUE to give BIG CONTRACTS to role players, supporting players, complementary players at best, players who deficient or limited in some way in size (tweeners like millsap, ak, hornacek, harpring) or talent/ability (brewer, korver, boozer, collins, bryon russel), motivation (ostertag, miles), etc.,
leaving them no money and dependent on late first round draft choices,
to fill critical spots,
when they need the money for a star 2 guard who can shoot and handle the ball and make things happen,
or a true dominant big man that is tall, long, and can play defense.
or even true star 3/ or great swingman.
Add to that a lack of a system that actually USES the talents needed to win a championship,
it's no wonder they have NEVER won a championship.
the team we have right now will not win us a championship. BUT, has proven to be very competitive. getting rid of boozer will be the best thing to happen to the jazz in the last couple years. we are simply too soft with him and okur. millsap will give us more this year then boozers best year here. the reason is because of his toughness/defense and his offensive game is not far behind boozers. everyone says millsap is no boozer on offense. yet he averaged like 19 pts 11 rebs when he started. getting rid of knight, collins and harpring retiring will make us younger, we are still one of the youngest teams in the league.
Didn't Andre Miller just sign for hardly anything? How much more would we have had to paid to have Andre Miller as our backup vs Ronnie Price. Are you kidding me, that would've been a steal and perfect to spell DWill during tough playoff games. Holy cow, where was Kevin O looking if Andre was right there to be had? Nice no look pass, eh?
Look Jazz fan I am as happy as the rest of you. I am live in Portland and I was hoping the Blazers landed Millsap but my blood runs Jazz blue and my heart is with the Jazz since the 80’s
With this being said Jazz Fan we have NO problems!!!!
Here is what “I” think is going to happen.
Boozer is going for some young stud (Bulls Knicks and I am not saying Lee or overseas) We will take back a lower contract or get a trade exception.
Loose AK. The Jazz brass will find someone just as dumb to take him off your hands for less coming back and be gone with him. We could loose the Knicks first rounder but when was the last person to come out of collage to lead a team to the finals? Trust me on this one.
Realize Harping”s contract is NOT guaranteed. Learn to deal with this and say good bye to him.
He can’t go.
If these three things happen them the Jazz will at least make it to the WCF if not the finals without paying any luxury tax!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't overpay unless you are contending for a title. Right now, the Jazz are not contending for a title. I think they are one player away, but that player is Dwight Howard. Millsap is good, but simply not as good as Boozer. Sap would be great as a bench player on a contender, but if he is your starter you will never get there.
The way to get there is to have three elite player. Right now the Jazz have one in Deron and a bunch of role players. We need to somehow change two or three solid players into one elite player, and then hope to draft another one from New York. This contract will just tie us up.
People seem to forget that when the Jazz went on their 12 game winning streak just before they collapsed, it was with Millsap starting and Boozer was out with an "injury". The Jazz beat a lot of great teams during that span (Lakers, Celtics, etc.) It was when Boozer came back that he totally disrupted the special chemistry that the team was just starting to create and the Jazz fell apart. Millsap may not be the offensive player that Boozer is, but he is a "team first" kind of guy which Boozer has never been nor will he be. I think Millsap is the right choice for the Jazz moving forward!
The Jazz's "great" win streak last came against weak teams or strong teams with injuries/suspensions/at home. Then the schedule got extremely tough...all playoff bound teams on the road.
The streak/meltdown had absolutely nothing to do with boozer/millsap.
And that's the truth.
That is silly! Do you think Andre Miller would come here to be a backup?
He played better with Philly than Denver, If you look at Andre's career he always has seemed to play better and have better numbers in the east, he is still a "wanna be scoring star"
Nonsense. There were 3 games in there that should have been won against weak teams MN GS and PHO. DAL and ALT should have been winable. 2,3 or 4 wins would have changes the seeding quite a lot.
That is what really upset many fans. They had been promised this super playoff team when Boozer FINALLY returned. It was all a big continuity lie.
The team disfunctioned as it became the wounded Boozer show.
