Bigots and racists are wholly UNAMERICAN. That said, this is a very, very funny letter.

where do you find these people DN? Really!
She will be a good judge | 6:46 a.m. July 17, 2009
Actually Mrs. Sonia Sotomayor is a very mainstream judge. Her rulings are well within the norm. Her ruling on the firefighters was at the time the way things were done, there was a precident for that type of ruling.

She will be a fine Supreme Court judge. She went to Yale, having come from a modest background and graduated with honors. She has a perspective that will help those downtroden, because she has lived among it, she has probably experienced it.

There are those who say the sky is falling, but there will always be these prophets of doom.

She brings a needed perspective to the court, of fairness, empathy and fidelity to the law at the same time. She is smart, very smart too, what more could we ask for in a judge?

but true, Sotamayor is connected to "la Raza" a group whos purpose is to "take over" the Western US.
far fetched? I don't think so.

Good heavens, this is just dumb.

Uh? What is this letter writer talking about? Is he really suggesting that Mexico is going to be handed a dozen states back from the US?
Anonymous | 8:52 a.m. July 17, 2009
The U.S. took thhis area away from Mexico. Let's give it back!

Rob: We need as Utahns to apologize to you for the quality of education you received. Lack of focus on education results in poor thinking and reasoning skills which your letter demonstrates in spades.

More wing-nut editorials in the dnews.
Why do you print this stuff?
Ernest T. Bass | 9:25 a.m. July 17, 2009
Well, I guess we all know Rob is at worst a racist and at least a xenophone.
Sad for Rob.
Dave | 9:37 a.m. July 17, 2009
How naive and uninformed we all are. In Mexican elementary schools they don't refer to the western US as the USA, they refer to it as Greater Mexico and most maps don's show a southern border on the US. They're taught to repopulate the lands that the "Gringos" took away from them and to take it back. Look at the list of mayors in SoCal, AZ, NM, and Texas and tell me it isn't working....now a wacked out leftist member of La Raza on our Supreme Court will just further accelerate the process. 45% of children born in the US were of Latin parents.....anyone else see the writing on the wall?
Mark B | 9:38 a.m. July 17, 2009
Hellooo! Ms. Sotomayor has no tie to Mexico at all. Her parents came to New York from Puerto Rico. If the writer is trying to be cute, he failed. Thanks, DN, for giving space to racism.
Ekim | 9:42 a.m. July 17, 2009
You got it right, Rob.

Only the ignorant would believe political satire is a true indication of racial bias.
AB  | 10:20 a.m. July 17, 2009
Only the left view disagreeing with mass (illegal) immigration as racism. As Iv'e said before, if it were Canadians coming over the border en mass, it would be the same concern. It just happens to be Mexicans, so th libdumbs pull out the only trick they have and call it racism to disparriage the opposition. When you can't fight facts, use emotion until everyone beleives it. So cliche and tired Libs, if you are going to keep arguing with irrelevant points, at least find some new irrelevant points.
SKB | 10:40 a.m. July 17, 2009
Normally satire should be both funny and relevent. This letter is neither. Instead, it borders on wholesale bigotry. The writer should note that Judge Sotomeyer doesn't come from Mexican ancestry, but instead is Puerto Rican. I doubt that the writer would recognize the difference.

It is no wonder that the right wing is marching toward the dustbin of history.
Grover | 11:04 a.m. July 17, 2009
Ok, Ron, Dave, AB we need immigration reform! The Bush admin tried it and got no where. The Dems (who you say favors open borders) hasn't had time to bring it up yet. So what do we do in the meantime...write letters and comments to the DNews that are so enigmatic that no one is sure what to make of them?
@AB | 11:05 a.m. July 17, 2009
what facts you dave and the letter writer have presented no facts just more drivel.
AB | 11:38 a.m. July 17, 2009
In reality its not a matter of race at all. Its a matter of economic feasability, we simply cannot support a flood of immigrants that drain more than they contribute to the economic infrastructure, Mexican, Canadian, Chinese whatever. It just so happens to be Mexicans overwhelming the country now.
The problem will only get worse with universal health care. Eventually there will be fewer putting into the pot than withdrawing from the pot. It wont sustain. Im completely in agreement with a guest worker system, we needs immigrant workers, but immigration needs reform absolutely, and it cant be a complete free-for-all, we simply cant afford it. There are many liberals that are completely opposed to a reasonable discussion about the limits of immigration becasue in their pointy little heads they automatically assume it a racism issue and close off to any reasonably dialogue, preferring to sling accusations of racism around to avoid discussing the real heart of the matter.

re: Mark B | 9:38 a.m. July 17, 2009

Thank you Mark. I was hoping someone beside me would catch that small little error. Its obvious the DN Editorial Board. Either that or they enjoy the contention.... 3rd Nephi 11:29

My recollection of the last immigration debate was that the "pointy heads" didn't get much of a word in. Remember that back then the PUBS had control of the Congress and the Presidency. The Tancredo crowd pushed through the "felony to give aid to the enemy" provision and could never get past the "amnesty" provision proposed by Bush ala the Sainted Reagan. So exactly how did the "socialists" rain on your parade?
Anonymous | 1:23 p.m. July 17, 2009
I have no idea what this letter writer is talking about.
Gus Talwynd | 2:02 p.m. July 17, 2009
Veiled bigotry suggesting that a judicial ruling that went against white litigants is equivalent to reversing some historical event is sheer nonsense. It's as dumb as saying that giving reparations to surviving Japanese-Americans for their treatment and incarceration during WWII is a defeat for the Americans in that war. Do we expect the Yamato to rise from the sea and sail throught the Golden Gate to receive the surrender of the U.S. forces?

This is lunacy of the most mentally-unbalanced type. Comparisons of this nature do not bode well for any discussion of events when cast in such a prejudiced manner. Find another analogy for the disagreement with the decision because the letter writer's ignornace is showing.
AB | 2:40 p.m. July 17, 2009
Re: Grover @1:17
I also recall an incident where Mr. Tancredo was trying to have a civil discourse on his view of illegal immigration on a college campus, when a couple of pointy heads unfurled a banner and disrupted the presentation, not allowing him any time to explain his side of the matter. How can any headway be made when Libs are shutting down any civil discourse on the topic? Once again, they don't want reasonable debate and discussion, they would simply prefer to throw around labels of racism and close down any other points of view.
Hatuletoh | 4:24 p.m. July 17, 2009
You know, I love the modern day racist. Rather than just declaring that they don't like people from certain races, they write letters to the editor trying to be clever and witty. This allows them to express their racist thoughts without having to publicly own up to them. Because it was just a joke, right? Just little bit of (failed) humor. No harm in that, right?

But as much as things change they surely also stay the same. For example, modern racist Mr. Robinson is clearly just as ignorant has his sheet-wearing ancestors: Ms. Sotomayor is Puerto Rican, not Mexican.

Nice work, Mr. Robinson. You're a failure at humor AND geography.

What's a xenophone?

Actuallity it is YOU who is UNAMERICAN,

true americans are allowed and allow others to speak out and think what they want.

NO true american would use political correctness, name-calling, ridiculing,

to silence others or control what others think.
Sally | 6:38 p.m. July 17, 2009
Yes, an some Americans are allowed to say whatever stupid and irrational thoughts penetrate their cranial mush. They may speak, but they will always be confronted if their words are mean-spirited and hurtful. Just claiming ignorance is insufficient to excuse such nonsense.
