Should of asked her if she believes this.
"I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latino woman who hasn't lived that life."
It seems her experiences are the only ones that count.
to Hey Orrin:
If you are were following the proceedings, versus the latest Rush Recap, you'll see they spent a great deal of time on that question.
Sotomayor has lied and prejured herself. I don't think we can trust her as a judge - everything is too abstract for her (how about rule of law should make most things black and white). Of course the way the lawyers (I mean legistators - wink) wrote the laws, they want gray areas in the laws so they can contend and make lots of money and ensure full employment for their buddies. Cynical, but true.
Please, why can't we find people that know the definition of honesty and integrity.
clearly Hey Orrin hasn't been following the proceedings because that was one of the first questions asked on DAY 1 (and has been asked again repeatedly).
Maybe reading and listening isn't your strong suit?
And just maybe Anonymous politeness isn't one of yours.
(And anyone else who would like to respond)
Please define the following statute:
It shall be an enhanced penalty to knowing sell drugs within 100 yards of a school.
Thank you!
To Anonymous 12:21 and 1:34:
Clearly neither of you read Hey Orrin’s comment carefully. Notice that he was not just rehashing Sotomayor’s words, but he reversed the rolls in quote. If a white male made a statement like that, it would be the end of his political career.
Double standard here!!
If a white male had said that Jackson and Sharpton would be getting plenty of T.V time!!
It is to bad we live in a country where people are now qualified because of popularity and not certifications.
Vote for them because they are cool now thats the ticket.
Talk to the fireman she did not want to see promoted because of their race.
Look for more of the same once she sits on the Supreme Court.
Since when is any type of discrimination fair?
Just tell them what they want to hear all the while committing perjury!!
So very sad!!
1:22
What?
PERJURED?
Ms. Sotomayor said it is the job of the court to do what Congress wants. That is incorrect. The system of checks and balances is to ensure that neither Congress nor the Executive branch overstep their constitutional rights.
They are to measure everything by the Constitution, and when citing case law, they are to make sure that law is also within the bounds of the Constitution. Since FDR, activist judges have been legislating from the bench and it is not okay to use those opinions as a precedent over the Constitution.
Hey Orrin,
a woman. LOL
"Should of asked her if she believes this.

If it comes to discrimination and domestic violence cases then it is far less likely that a "wise white man" will reach a better conclusion then someone who knows what it is like to be discriminated against and who understands what it means to be a victim of domestic violence.
Wise white men often ask female victims of domestic violence why they went back to their abuser over and over because they can never understand the control and process that led up the abuse that conditioned the woman to rely on that man, to trust him and to love him and then to feel him hit her and apologize over and over.
More often then not a man can't understand what that woman was thinking. Take Elizabeth Smart and "white males" attacking her for not leaving when she could.
Outside of a few questions submitted by Utahns, Orrin Hatch has certainly got the taxpayer's money's worth out of his interrogation.
Hatch's judicial interns must have spent countless hours researching the questions that Orrin would ask during Sotomayor's confirmation.
Senator Hatch NEVER speaks this eloquently during an unrehearsed interview. Things just weren't the same without hearing his stumbling "nut case" vocabulary.
Indeed, this was a true senior senator at work.
Wow! What a perceptive statement - - -
Apparently, you have never listened to President Obama when he doesn't have his teleprompter . . . .
All this talk about how easy it should be to know the law, and yet no one has taken a stab at defining this statute:
It shall be an enhanced penalty to knowingly sell drugs within 100 yards of a school.
Let me ask a couple of questions to get you started:
1 - Does "knowingly" apply to "sell drugs" or "within 100 yards of a school" or both?
2 - Does "school" refer simply to the building where classes are held? Or to all school property?
All you people posting the wise Latino comments... could you tell me what hate site you are copying and pasting from? Y'all hate so much, its hard to narrow down which hate site you prefer.
One thing Sotomayor has proven without doubt is that she has unending patience. She has answered the same dumb question over and over. We need diversity on the Supreme Court. Even if she said that thing and meant it, she should serve. They should pick people at random off the street, even with all their failings, which every person has.
but how Hatch votes on confirming Sotomayor.
She has revealed by her answers and non-answers, and record that she clearly relishes the power of the judiciary, and the opportunity to be an activist judge.
Even allowing for Hatch's blind deference to allowing presidential appointments to go through, this nominee is a danger to the future of our country.
Hatch needs to oppose her, even without stating a reason. After all, that is what Senator Obama did to eminently well qualified Chief Justice John Roberts was up for confirmation.
We will see if Hatch places the future well being of our country over his desire to be loved by Democrats like Ted Kennedy.
During his confirmation hearings, Justice Samuel Alito mentioned that his impoverished, ethnic background helped him to be a better, more empathetic judge, that he was aware of how his decisions might affect people like his family. Alito is a white male conservative, so the Republicans all applauded him for his empathy for the common citizen. Now we have Judge Sotomayor, a Latina woman, and suddenly such comments are "racist." Double standard, anyone?? These confirmation hearings are nothing but political theatre.
