Nice article about a park in Sugar House. I lived in Sugar House as a child. I would love to visit the park but the writer failed to give the exact location of the park.

A beautiful and inspiring story.

I look forward to seeing this park when I visit. Working in NYC and living in NY. I find the writers opinion of the clogged SLC intersection a little humorous.

I too was left wondering how to find this hidden treasure to share with my grandchildren. I guess if the location had been printed, it would soon be flooded with curious explorers.

To Grace: Let's hope we can learn something from NYC and find a way to preserve what we have now. Planned urban development; not just willy-nilly building and profit. This park is an example.

Central Park is only there now because people cared enough to preserve the space many years ago.

(I am submitting my email address on this form in hopes of receiving some directions).

The park is located on the Southeast end of the sugarhouse complex and can be reached through the small clearing of buildings by Old Navy. I was one of those kids who helped fight the developers and it was a great experience. Thank you Ms. Sohm.

If this is where I think it is, I used to cross this area on my way to and from Irving Jr. High. We had a single rope swing that hung on a tree next to the stream that we would swing over the creek. If you let go, you got hurt or wet. It was behind the hague branch of the public library and the Southeast Theatre and a little bit North of the railroad track that went by the State Penetentiary going to Park City. I suppose all these buildings and the railroad track are no longer there.

Growing up in the sixties, we often waded down the creek from 1300 East to Highland Drive. There was some garbage at that time but it was somewhat isolated from the surrounding commercial development. I remember we had our own little "hot springs" to relax in. It was the inlet from Hygia Ice. The ice making business created warm water which was dumped into the stream. We would sit in the warm water which was maybe about 20 degrees warmer than the stream water. I'm glad that the area has been preserved.

To Debbie and others looking for an exact location: if Hidden Hollow has an "exact address", I've never heard it. Just park in the Old Navy/Barnes & Noble Parking lot and start walking--you'll find it. Don't be afraid to pound a little pavement to get to the grass; DIY and all that.

But now that you know the approximate location of our "secret" park, do me a favor and support some locals. For example, you could walk down to 2100 and Windsor and find "Este Pizza", the closest thing you'll get to real New York style pizza this side of the Mississip. And maybe drop in on my buddy Dave at his shop "The Record Collector" and get yourself a $4 vinyl, even if you don't have a record player. Or head up to "Finn's" (the new one) on 17th and 11th for breakfast or lunch. You could even go up to 15th and 15th and have lunch at "Mazza", or "Eggs in the City" on 13th south and 1700 east.

A favorite spot for my dog and me. It is nice to read that others feel the same. In fact, that whole area is one of the best in Salt Lake. I'm so glad it exists. Thank you to those responsible.

Loved this story -- thank you, Ms. Free, and thanks to Ms. Sohm! It is so important to keep our precious natural settings intact. I love this little "secret garden," and almost hate to share its location. "Hatuletoh" is right -- there is no exact address. But you can't miss it if you park by Petco (across from Whole Foods) and take the sidewalk to your left. There you'll find a "Hidden Hollow" sign. Happy wanderings!

Sheri Sohm is my sister. I am incredibly proud of her persistence and love of nature that saved this little piece of heaven. Her efforts made the earth a little happier. Thank you Sheri!

Thank you Sheri for Hidden Hollow! Last year due to a tragic house fire we were out of our home for several months. My children healed from that awful experience by spending countless treasure hours playing in Hidden Hollow (we stayed in the hotel adjacent). It is still our favorite place.

Hidden Hollow exists due to the efforts of hundreds of young people, parents, community leaders, neighbors, educators, politicians, volunteers, artists, musicians, poets, writers, birds, bugs and trees! Thanks to everyone who helped children save this little stream and to those who continue to volunteer their time and resources at Hidden Hollow. It is a great example of how a community can pull together to accomplish impossible things.

Doing a little masters research I came across this article. Its wonderful to see a few names I recognize. Thinking about Hidden Hollow and all the work put into it makes me proud. I wish every child could have the incredible experiences I enjoyed with Sheri and Lynne. Thanks for everything.
