This is a total waste of 10 million bucks. Van Turner, you're on the wrong side of this one.
I must disagree. I've seen recent pictures of the Utah Theater's interior space. The building has a lot of historic charm that simply can't be duplicated in a newer building. Salt Lake City needs to hold on to and restore the few gems from remain from its past. These buildings are what makes the city unique and inviting and will help fuel future interest and growth. Tearing these structures down or letting them decay beyond repair will delay downtown growth and likely lead to irreversible decline.
HURRAH! This is great news! Money well spent.
Money well spent indeed. It will create jobs and create a more business friendly environment downtown by bringing in much needed foot traffic and offer entertainment for visitors. This is a very well planed investment.
