Grantsville High School burned down in February, 1984, not 1983.
Maybe the required hood suppression systems arent a bad thing after all. It would of helped here tremendously but no one wants to do them. How needs building codes? Not dead people!

Grantsville High School burned down in February, 1984, not 1983.
If you would read the full article before you comment you'd notice the report stated 1984..
I would guess the District is self insured so they can begin repairs immediately..
Good luck out there folks....
Grantsville High burned down the night of my 15th Brithday party.
I don't know where they're getting the idea that there's empty space in the school. I teach at Grantsville Elementary. We are already using portable classrooms and the special education department has four teachers crammed into one classroom.
This is a shock, but hopefully some needed upgrades will come out of it.
will create empty space for the public schools this fall.
I believe that after the comment is made, the article can be corrected. It then makes the comment look dumb.
Was she really "screaming"? A little dramatic license taken by the Deseret News, perhaps?
Given the subject of the article, what difference does it make whether Grantsville HS burned in 1983 or 1984? Also, what difference does it make whether the secretary was actually screaming?
The article stated the double brick fire containment walls of the teachers lounge, that prevented the fire from spreading to other areas of the building, was a lesson learned from when Grantsville HS burned in 1984. The comment was also made that rebuilding of Grantsville ES will include sprinkler system. Didn't the school already have a built in sprinkler system? I thought those were standard in public buildings built in the 1980s and later?
In response to the comment about Grantsville Elementary already having a built in sprinkler system, I believe the elementary school is much older than the 1980's. I think the original structure was actually built in the early 1900's. So great job and thank you to the fire crews who not only saved our elementary school but also a historic building!
i hope they get the school back up in time for fall or at least get a plan for portables or something because even know the school is down it doesnt meen kid should still not have a good teacher friends or education
I'm a pupil there and in all of this..... whatever you would like to call it is geting me and my friends mixed up to the point where we should just say it and leave like sections 3-4 in willow 5 in portables and 6th in junior high and there we go.
I wint to the school .Scent 6yearold though 12yearlod. I will miss that school, because that had remember in theschool...
