One big song and dance.
The Democrats will fall over each other to sing her praises, half of the Republicans will just sit and stare, and the other 20 will ask pointed questions and try to score constituent points the best they can.
Then she'll be confirmed with about 80-90 votes and she can go back to being her real self, and next year we'll find out what we really got.
Tell you what... A fair trade would be to approve this lady and send Patrick Leahy to a retirement home in Vermont.
anon 12:45, I don't think we'd get a fair trade as you propose; VT would send someone just as bad as Leahy to replace him, and we'd still be stuck with this sexist racist bigot on the supreme court.
Will be approved without any hurdles. If she were "white" and had made those racist comments, she wouldn't even be in front of the Senate today, that's how messed up this country is.
The Deseret Snooze (like all other liberal press) always shows Democrats/liberals smiling and Republicans/conservatives anything but smiling. For instance, notice Judge Sonia (she's always pictured smiling). Now, search for the article on Palin and look at the picture they've included of her.
Joe Moe is right, this is just a formality. And, like Obama as soon as she is nominated, she will go back to being her real self.
Is killing this nation......
even the Democrats will abandon the corpse. It is happening with Obama right now, but with these liberal judges...the decay goes on for decades and we have to pay for our mistakes, long term.
I'm a hardcore Hispanic Conservative. I love late Ronald W. Reagan and George W. Bush's compassionate conservatism. Although not my favorite, I voted for the McCain-Palin ticket because McCain was the only Republican courageous enough to try to address the inmigration issue but the far-right, rednecks like Jason Ch. derailed the only hope for Republicans to remain in power. Judge Sotomayor will be the greatest test to Republicans. If they mistreat her Republicans will continue to lose groung. Hispanics gave Pres. Obama the same margin of victory (3 to 1) that Reagan, GHW Bush and GW Bush. But the anti-inmigrant rethoric of some has alianated Hispanics who are soon becoming a very important voting block. Utah needs to learn this lesson. SB81 will transform Utah into the bluest state in the West after California. Conservatives, open up your eyes and learn: Hispanics and minorities in general do not need to be patronized, but Democrats are taking advantage of the far-right mistakes and gaining enourmous ground. I hope Judge Sotomayor will get the fair chance and her nomination doesn't become political gain for the left. I'll will muc depend on the right.
It would be easier to sympathize with the sulking Right if they had not hammered a slogan with one voice through the last two Court nominations. Remember it? "Elections have consequences!" they thundered. It was tantamount to saying - out of the way, losers. We're taking this one and there's nothing you can do about it. A Democratic president hasn't nominated a justice for SCOTUS in 15 years. Get used to it.
This is a big mistake OBama is making.
I would prefer an average Joe for the position.
