That is so sad! I didn't know that anyone was in the house when it was destroyed! I wish these things didn't happen...

This is very sad. Our prayers are with all of you involved in this. Thank you so much for everyone helping to take care of this disaster. This is what real neighbors do.

Our son and daughter own one of the homes that were flooded in this sad event. We are so very thankful for the quick response of neighbors who helped pump the water from their basement, keeping the level of damage to a minimum. As well as the seemingly endless crews of volunteers who helped clear damaged debris from the house and sheds. We would still be there if not for them! Thank you! Our prayers go out to the others involved who lost so much more than we did.

My deepest condolences to the family. May the Lord carry you through this terrible time.
REAL help will be.... | 12:05 p.m. July 13, 2009
...when everyone gets together and helps these people move away from this canal.

This disaster happened ten years to the day when a similar canal ws breached in Riverdale.

How many of these families had flood insurance? Likely, none of them. They've lost everything - and will never be able to sell their homes, due to people (hopefully) remembering how the canal gave way.

Next of kin? | 12:27 p.m. July 13, 2009
Terrible situation, my sympathies to the families of the lost and those who had property damage.

Wondering why DN is publishing the names of the victims if the next of kin (truck driving husband) has not been located.

It Was The Canal | 3:19 p.m. July 13, 2009
It will be for certain that the canal lead to the total landslide and destruction. Subpena the canal Co. records to see when and how much renovation, repair, inspection ect was done throughout this location. We had a wet spring yes, but that was not the determing factor to this collapse, the weak, old, stressed banks were. Does no one want to take the time when residents and passerbys report dirty water flowing at increased rates for several weeks? The liability is not very hard to figure out in this one!
God Bless These Families | 5:09 p.m. July 13, 2009
I dearly love Logan, my memories are very fond, my aunt and uncle live a few blocks away and I loved walking through these streets every summer visiting. The city is old, the canals have been there forever, so this isn't a surprise and I never lived there. It shouldn't have happened though, neighbors told the city and their employees did not do a good job. Now lives are lost and families torn apart forever. I pray for the family members left behind, know that your loved ones, if they are gone, are in a wonderful place. Smile about the good memories as the anonymous prima is, that is the good way to remember them. I hope the rest will receive full value for the damage of their homes, the city and the canal companies have some money to pay out. I will pray for you all. God Bless and mi amo to the familia.

Why don't we wait until the smaller slide below the canal is investigated and until a complete investigation is made of the entire incident. We used to live on Crocket Avenue and walked up that hill and crossed the canal on a narrow beam that was there, almost every day during the school year. This was in 1950/1952, and we live in Oklahoma now. But even then the small springs and streams around there were a nusance, especially when we had a wet spring with high run-off. Let us be patient and wait until a careful evaluation is made before placing blame.

I sincerely hope the city does not allow people to rebuild on the hazardous slope. I love that neighborhood and my heart is heavy for those who have lost loved ones there.

as is the now usual norm, no one is responsible. what a sad group of people we have become. does anyone in logan have a backbone, city officials, canal owners, water masters, anyone...........
