This article was especially poignant to me as I, too, have a son fighting for liberty in Iraq. Living conditions there are very difficult and they are constantly in danger. Recently 5 young men from his platoon were killed. At our Independence Day celebration, I stood to be recognized, with our Veterans, as a family member of one who is currently serving. I wept with emotion as my heart broke for the mothers and families of my son's friends, who gave their young lives for liberty.
My son is now on his way home for a 2 week leave. I can tell you it will be very hard to put him back on a plane at the end of the 2 weeks knowing what he's going back to. But he'll go, and I'll let him go because we believe in freedom, knowing that it's definitely not free, but is won by the sacrifice of "blood, sweat and tears" of some of the most valiant young people of our day.
I salute them all and pray that they will come home safely, leaving behind a legacy of freedom to be proud of.
