Hope everyone is okay. I remember when Rexburg flooded and in 83 when a massive mudslide destroyed many homes in Bountiful. Take comfort from this and know that as impossible as it may seem right now, rebuilding will happen and life will be sweet again.

I used to live just several blocks from here. My children road their bikes along the canal. We all went for walks along it, too. I know so many of the people who live here, and I pray that everyone is okay. The Island area is such a great part of Logan.

Hey Anon--- in 83 the mudslides were in FARMINGTON---
Bountiful,Centerville and Farmington all had flooding.. And life sweet again??? Hardly, when you lose pictures and documents that can never be replaced it's like a death.. to be lived over and over again....
Been there, done that.

How can you write an entire story about this irrigation canal without naming it? It's called the Logan Hyde Park & Smithfield Canal, it's something like 120 years old and there have been seepage problems for a very long time.

After viewing a street view picture of the home on Google maps, the devastation to that home is even more evident. God bless the family of the three who were in the home.

Hey Mudslides--- yes, there are memories that cannot be replaced but what I think Anonymous was saying is to look ahead into the future and life goes on. Lets not dwell on the past, be positive with our thoughts, and not be such downers. My prayers are with all who where affected. God Bless!

Our prayers to go out to Rosa, Julio and family during this time. May God be with you all.

This is terrible, but the Des News did not press Logan City to ask if after receiving several days before about the canal leaking did anything about it! Maybee it belongs to a canal company. Dig deeper. This is a tradgedy, and the focus should be on the families, but lets get to the bottom.

It is depressing that there was water running into the road and properties for about a week and Logan City did not work harder to fix it untill this tragedy(I'm hoping they have fixed the problem). If someone places a sign on on the wrong side of the sidewalk the City has someone who immediately removes it, or if you park your vehicle on your lawn, or if you put cement in front of your house to park a vehicle they can invest large amounts of our tax money to remove the park strips. Lets hope they take beter care of the important things in Logan.

I hope all who have had loss of any kind are able to press on. There are some great people out there on canyon road and crockett. I know they are in good hands. I am so sorry that this happened unawares for some.

No, Dad 41, I think that the Logan, Hyde Park and Smithfield canal diverts from further up Logan Canyon on the North side of Highway 89, and never does go South of the Highway where this slide occurred. This is the canal that eventually ends up flowing through the Smithfield Golf Course, and then emptying into Smithfield's Summit Creek.

The canal running along the slope south of 89 and north of 915 Canyon Road is the Logan Northern canal. This canal is a lower canal, and ultimately ends up flowing through Smithfield and all the way out to the north of Smithfield.

I hope all are praying for these people. That is the thing that is needed most. With God, all things are possible. I hurt for all involved. My heart goes out to the family of the three missing. I know that with all the loss, pain and suffering, God can heal the broken hearted and help them to carry on with their own lives. God Bless you all.

It is so great to see Logan unite together to help with this sad event. From the firefighters to the neighbors, I hope to see everyone helping. The restoring of these buildings will take time and effort. I have seen Alpine Cleaning do amazing things with clean-up.

Logan residents stand in the flooded yard of a home Saturday. A canal break sent water and mud into homes in the area of 900 E. Canyon Road. One home was destroyed and others were destroyed.
