Fine. But first, let's acknowledge that the sutherland institute and ksl hardly have no bias of opinion on this and many subjects.

Why we're where we are | 5:52 a.m. July 11, 2009
Tolerance of crime is the reason we have gangs and daily murders in our country.
ILLEGAL is the key word here.
Just because you're having difficulties doesn't give you the right to break the law.
Remember, for an illegal to work in the US they need a false ID. Are you willing to let them use yours? If not, don't tell me to be tolerant of their illegal activity.

ksl is hardly without bias. It is a place where the left wing radical extremist can be quite comfortable. Only a nationally syndicated program provides a break in this wasteland of leftist ideas. But worry not oh unthinking, ksl reminds you every chance that it gets that it doesn't agree with the nationally syndicated program.

How would you propose controlling the borders? Are we making the U.S. an armed fortress? What is the root of the problem? Could we do better by enforcing laws against the business community which hires them, ignoring I-9s and e-verify and so forth? Could we do better by helping conditions in other countries so people could earn a good living there and not feel a need to come here? It is easy to talk tough, but a knee jerk, feel good reaction solves nothing.

No suggestions offered | 8:45 a.m. July 11, 2009
Despite the title, you make no suggestion as to HOW to control the border.

The Sutherland institute study shows that 96% of the immigrants lead crime free lives. Frankly, I would rather have them as neighbors than some of the spoiled kids in this valley.

"The Sutherland institute study shows that 96% of the immigrants lead crime free lives."

The Sutherland Institute is lying. Illegal aliens are committing crime on a regular basis by (among other things) defying U.S. immigration law, filling out forms fraudulently, and committing identity theft.

The Sutherland Institute is absolutely wrong when if it says that 96% of illegal aliens are law abiding. According to a senior Social Security Administration official, roughly 75% percent of illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security numbers — a felony.

In fact, illegal aliens commit up to three FELONIES just to get a job — document fraud, perjury on an I-9 form and identity fraud under the laws of Utah if they are using a Social Security number that belongs to someone else either knowingly or unknowingly.

Sadly, Sutherland completely ignores the damage done to the 50,000 Utah children whose Social Security numbers are used primarily by illegal aliens to get jobs - denied Medicaid benefits, corrupted credit histories, compromised medical records with life threatening consequences and a denial of means tested educational assistance.

If Sutherland really cared about family values and the well being of illegal aliens, it would stop condoning their unlawful behavior. Rather, it would help illegal aliens understand that it is not acceptable to commit felonies in order to get jobs and that it is not acceptable to victimize innocent Utah children for their personal benefit.

simple solution | 4:26 p.m. July 11, 2009
when it was made illegal to work without a social security number, then it became necessary to obtain one to work.
To reduce crime therefore, all that needs to happen, is to no longer require a social security number to work.
If an american citizen can not compete with a immigrant from mexico. then it is their own fault, for not taking advantage of all opportunities, and advantages, that has been given to them as a citizen of this country.

At the same time lets do away with the politically correct term "UNDOCUMENTED".

IF they immigrated here ILLEGALLY,

and have no permission to be here,

they have no right to be here.

Newsflash for Dave: your study is already finished. Legal immigrants are part of the Utah population. Is there a hint of racism in not thinking so?

@Re: No suggestions offered

Yes, the SI is lying in order to undermine their own endeavors. Great point. I'm also glad to see the circular logic came out to play today. Keep it up, you do wonders for your position's legitimacy.

David: How would an 'illegal' even get on welfare? Please inform us how that happens because they cannot receive welfare if they're illegal.
Also, why aren't you volunteering to educate them and give them job opportunities in their country so they don't have to come here?
The only reason they're here is to earn a living.

Yeah, illegals probably don't end up on welfare. Instead, it is their anchor kids who get all of the freebies that our country can produce. We get to pay for their birth, feed them for their first 18 years, and educate them until they get that degree that they can't legally use. It all seems so pointless.

Don't hold your breath on the law being enforced. The two stooges (Hatch and Bennett) are in the pocket of big business, they don't care at all about what is good for Utah. The other problem is the the keystone cops of Utah (all police departments who think they can pick and choose which laws to enforce). We need to clean house of all these clowns in the next election then we can begin to accomplish what really needs to be done,,, COMPREHENSIVE ENFORCEMENT. You will see illegals go home in droves, just like they came.

re: re Ernest:
Give us some statistics. I've yet to meet a so-called 'illegal' who didn't work extremely hard. They're poor and work hard for what they get. Their kids are the same.
Proove your point that they have their kids cash the welfare checks because unless you provide some concrete info, you're simply making that up.
Yet more sham 'fact' from the far-right.

How HARD they work is irrelevant.
