Deroy Murdock: Global cooling evidence should quiet the alarms raised by warmists
50 comments | Read story
For some reason, after reading this article, that doesn't surprise me.
It also doesn't surprise me that the Hoover Institute receives some of its funding from a group that very much wants people to not accept global warming--ExxonMobile.
Just like cigarette companies wanted people to think that there was a scientific debate about whether cigarettes were bad for you or not, certain groups today want people to believe that pollution, including giving our atmosphere more CO2 than it has ever had in human history, is not a problem. If they can convince enough people, they can keep raking in the dough. And that, ultimately, is all they care about.
Mr. Murdoch ignores the satellite photos that show ice sheets disappearing at an alarming rate.
When the growth was made public we were assured that the ice was thin, not as substantial as the oil-mongers would have us think. A subsequent expedition to measure ice thickness was doomed by cold weather. Results from that trip and airplane flights showed the ice was "thicker than expected," and we haven't heard anything since.
The AP headline today tells us what we've known for years: global warming is about social justice and not about saving the earth.
Many in the global warming movement jumped on the bandwagon to accomplish social justice and wealth redistribution when their hopes in the USSR were dashed.
Where is all the temperatures for the last 100 years every day everywhere with standard deviation? Then you can tell me there is no trend w/r to the noise from a few measurements at a few locations.
Those in the field differ; who of the opposing groups in the relevant fields are truly scientific? Take your pick.
Evidence that global warming - all the globe, not just selected parts - is not occurring will quiet the zealots for a time but soon they will re-group, adjust their claims, fine tune their terminology perhaps, invent new excuses, continue to vociferously assert their claims and dominate the media. After all "naught but fiction feeds the many".
If I understand correctly, only 4% of the CO2 is man-made. We in the US consume a large share of the world's energy, but even if we create 1/4 of all the man-caused CO2, that's only 1% of the total CO2. What is BO's cap and trade (AKA tax and job-kill) going to do about the other 99%?
Tuvalu, Alaska, give me a break!
Historically, going back billions of years - the earth has had ice caps only 10% of the time. That means the other 90% of the time the earth has no ice caps, no polar ice, no snow to ski on - nothing. On the long trend the earth is in its coldest time right now.
Not going back so far it was much warmer 600 years ago than it was during the 1930's or with Dr Hansen's cooked numbers out of NASA.
Satellite readings show that upper atmospheric temps have NOT risen over the past decades. This is key since the whole global warming scare is about CO2 trapping in the suns rays and cooking the earth like a convection oven. In order for that to happen the upper atmosphere must be warming. It is not.
Another evidence of the scam.
The comment about the liberals jumping on Global Warming once the USSR collapsed is right on the money. They tried international socialism with the Soviets, didn't work. They now want to try international socialism through environmentalism. It will collapse as well.
Socialism doesn't work!
Tuvalu!!!???
FRAUD ALERT!!!!!
(in kirk voice) Must ... Correct ... Falsehoods!
It has not sunk. 11,000 residents have not been displaced.
They just FEAR that this will happen sometime in the next 50 years.
Go look at their official website.
You really need to do more than listen to Al Gore.
Even if it WERE sinking ...
climate change has been happening forever. Things fluctuate. Tuvalu would not be the first island to be swallowed by the sea. Islands were getting made and swallowed well before humans "caused" global warming.
The great Ice Age cometh.
But to help you understand, people who want to control other people's lives DO think they can be greater than God.
If global warming is accepted as real, then the Government can regulate EVERYTHING about our lives.
So much for freedom.
If we want to fix the CO2 issue, then tell the government to regulate the sun. The sun can do more to cool or heat the earth in one day than anyone can do their entire lifetime.
But in a true effort to find common ground, isn't it prudent for us, as a people, to take steps towards preserving our resources and cleaning up lakes, rivers, etc...? So many republicans on this post talk about how much money is made w/ respect to 'going green' so isn't that a growing part of the economy that begs our attention?
With all the money to be made and the overwhelming support from people and companies (even Chevron tries to pass itself off as environmentally friendly these days) the only explanation for not going green and pursuing this indulgent pecuniary avenue is purely political posturing by republicans who just stick their heels in the sand b/c liberals advocate the act, is it not?
I am a Republican and politically active. I love technology and the idea of going green for the sake of the economy and I am currently in the process of buying solar for my home. It makes economic sense to save and conserve. I just refuse to take on the name of "climate change" while I do it. Drop the GW "the sky is falling" hysterics and I will back the push to green standing right next to you.
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." I am with you and think it is great you are taking those steps. Honestly, I feel we can all agree that working towards maintaining a clean, healthy environment while stimulating the economy is a win for all. People can choose the side they want re: global climate change, but the point is moot when we come to agreeance re: the aforementioned factors. Thanks for your thoughts.
Two years ago, as the sun was supposed to be starting the next solar cycle, nothing happened. No sunspots for the new cycle appeared, the total solar irradiance started dropping, and solar wind pressure dropped to lows never before recorded. As a result of the decrease in solar output the earth's climate started cooling quite rapidly as evidenced by people freezing to death in the Andean highlands of Peru and Bolivia, snow for the first time in 80 years in Baghdad and in places on the Arabian peninsula where local dialects have no word for snow because of how infrequently it happens.
None of your priests' computer models predicted any of this, because the models don't include changes in solar output. They have completely neglected the fact that during the past 7 solar cycles the sun was more active than any time since record keeping began in the 1600s.
But then so is the assertion that CO2 can control climate.
When are you going to learn that it doesn't even matter what Obama believes?
Obama himself smokes... Yet Obama has proposed banning smoking for those in the military...? (obviously just the first step which will eventually be expanded as opportunity presents itself).
So evidently it doesn't even matter whether he believes in it or not. Somehow he's special and He can do one thing himself and impose OTHER rules on the rest of us, and evidently he's OK with that.
I suspect Obama and Gore have a MUCH larger carbon footprint than I do. But that doesn't matter... because it's NOT important that THEY believe their own theory... what's important is taking advantage of this crisis and using it to expand the control of government over our lives while they can. While people are actually BEGGING them to do it. Begging the government to take control of their lives, even asking them to turn that control over to some international power-group (that doesn't have the interests of America or American workers or families at heart).
I just don't get it!
"people who want to control other people's live believe they can be greater than GOD"
um, unlike those that believe they can be god's equal?
-Saufatu Sopoanga, Prime Minister of Tuvalu, at the 58th Session of the United Nations General Assembly New York, 24th September 2003"
That is from the Tavula web site, Captain Kirk.
It seems that the PM of Tuvalu, like so many other people, believes that climate change is "real and serious". Yet that doesn't present any proof of a real problem and leaves the debate hanging.
A rule of thumb. Reputable science don't go on the Rush Limbaugh, Hanity or Glen Beck shows. These shows cater to the religion of conservatism.
Conservatism, like religions, have undeniable truths, you memorize mantras to answer any question. You have a messiah: Rush Limbaugh and his disciples, Hanity, Beck and O'Reilly. You have apostates: RINO's.
Believing something and gleaning only people and facts to support your beliefs is the methodology of religion and not science.
Please explain why natural climatic cycles in the past, has anything to do with humans changing our atmosphere today? Any kid studying science knows there is no correlation. We can have past climatic cycles and still have human caused climate change.
If you understood the prominent religion in Utah, then you would understand that they do not believe they would be equal to God. Your understanding is quite WRONG.
To help you understand, if I have a hero like, say my dad and strive all my life to be like him, that still doesn't make me an equal to him. He would always remain my father and would always deserve my greatest respect.
Please get your facts straight before posting incorrect assumptions of other's beliefs.
Conservatives point to FACTS of cooling in many areas, millions of years of natural climate change and that amount of co2 that does not come from man being far higher than man made and the Liberals refuse to listen to anything that has logic and facts behind it when it does not support their agenda!
What contra-evidence did you submit? Nothing. Zilch.
Read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. A work of fiction, but the story line is validated and documented with scientific fact and references. Enjoy the read and the opportunity to learn something at the same time from an unexpected source.

Some additional information. The corrected data showed world wide temps were LOWER than had been reported for the prior many years. The director of this dept within NASA was none other than the demi-god of global warming, Dr James Hansen.
It is FACT that global temps have been declining. In fact, in the last 11 years the decline in temps has taken the world back to roughly the temps of the 1950's. We have reduced 5 decades of warming in 1 decade!
What does this mean? Global warming is a fraud perpetrated by those who believe in redistribution of wealth and the deindustrialization of America.
Thanks for this article! I am going to forward it to every person I know. The truth will set us free!!!
