Dishonorable business | 10:14 a.m. July 10, 2009
RC Willey is a credit institution that happens to sell furniture. Their ads consistently tell customers to "just add it to your account." Their customer service is legendarily poor. And finally, how can the church honor a man who built his fortune on encouraging debt? His continuing legacy is a business model that directly contradicts the counsel of church leadership to live within your means, distinguish between wants and needs, and to stay out of debt.

Isn't RC Willey a business? Businesses are usually open to make a profit, that's the point. It's not dishonorable. They don't bound and gag their customers and force them to put things on credit. Geesh!
Give 'em Credit | 3:39 p.m. July 10, 2009
Yep they are a business. They are the largest creditor in the inter-mountain west, bigger than any local bank.

They are ruthless if someone owes them money.

Thanks for hilighting them on Mormon Times.

Very testimony building.

can you use words like testimony and church leadership to critisize a business. Your logic would condemn every business in the free world. No one would be able to get a temple recommend if they worked for a car dealership, a bank, a grocery store, a gas company. Your logic is really, really bad. The church does not condemn credit. Credit is a necessary commodity in the world of commerce. We are counselled to use it wisely and get out from under the evils of debt, as quickly as we can. We are taught about the pressures of interest and unnecessary purchases beyond our ability to repay. By the way, all businesses want to get repaid, that does not make them ruthless. If you are defaulting on your payments, THEN you better EXPECT them to get ruthless.
