Another Bennet Bungle.Lots of money for buildings but little for battlers.
In financial difficult times, theres seems to be money for earmarked projects for politicians but where its most needed,Mortgage assistance programs,job allocation,employment training,mental health programs etc,they always have enough to make a bigger building or make one stronger or prettier
Where is the logic of these Utah politicians/ Dont they realize people are suffering financially. Time for a change!

Yes, instead of doing justice we should ratchet up the welfare state! Government should live within its means and should so its citizens. If you need a mortgage assistance program, the government to train you for a job, the government to fix your state of mental health etc. then you have bought the womb to the tomb government-do-for-me philosophy. Welcome to the USSR. Personally, I think that one of the federal government's prime responsibilities is to assure equal access to justice under the law. I'm not sure we need a new courthouse for that but I definitely believe that government shouldn't be in the role of assuring that you can make your house payment, the role of providing you with job training, or necessarily to provide for your mental health although I could perhaps accept that under certain circumstances - you are ultimately responsible for your own way in this world - don't blame politicians for the normal downs of the economy and don't let them take credit for the ups - they don't deserve either. Plan for the ups and downs and live accordingly. It smooths out the rough spots.

Isn't the new courthouse waiting on the Odd Fellows' move? Doesn't seem like the project is completely 'shovel ready' then

YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO WIPE YOUR NOSE EVERY TIME YOU SNEEZE, THEN THE GOVERNMENT TAKES OVER EVERYTHING---- LIKE THEY ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.
WAKE UP PEOPLE, I WANT MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS BACK !!!!!
@hillbilly | 11:10 a.m. July 10, 2009
Exactly what constitutional rights have you lost?

Most bloggers on the DN site are all for deportations, prosecuting federal criminals, etc. This courthouse is badly needed to facilitate those actions. There is a constitutional right to a speedy trial and a lack of facilties (i.e. courtrooms) is a serious issue. You can't just throw people in jail without due process and the courthouse is a key in that due process. In case you haven't noticed, Utah has grown much since the old Frank E. Moss courthouse (originally the US Post Office and Courthouse) was built in 1905.
Heaven forbid... | 3:37 p.m. July 10, 2009
...that lawyers would have to cross the street to the empty lot where the courthouse should have been built.

I thought the Matheson Court House was more than sufficient. I guess I was wrong.....LOL!!
Thank you! | 8:39 p.m. July 10, 2009
We appreciate your efforts, Sen. Bennett!

And, love your new YouTube channel!

To Hey: The Matheson Courthouse is for the Utah state courts, and it is filling that role nicely. The Moss Courthouse (and this new project) houses federal courts. Since the Moss Courthouse is more than 100 years old, I'd say this project is long overdue.
