Fatigued? If anyone is fatigued it is me from all the typing on here. Guess we drafted another bunch of non-tough players to go along with the ones we already have on the team. Well at least there will be team chemistry next year. No defense but everyone will get along!
good. I have watched all 3 games. This is not a good team. Are the other teams doing 2 a days? They seem to be doing just fine?
Hans looked good. He could have stepped in and replaced Millsap (going to POR?). Maybe the Jazz can spot another PF who they can pick up for cheap who can play this year.
you guys are fickle, it's summer league, no need to be so uptight. maynor at least busting his butt to compete, he played in a mid-major conference similar to suu. give the kid a chance, he is doin the right things to become a true competitor. remember in summer league, no memo, booze, deron, brewer, or anyone else. the jazz will be fine. too bad they let fes come back
Aren't the other teams having the same schedule? We shouldn't be more fatigued than anyone else???
Don't the Jazz have like 15 players on their roster while other teams have only 8 to 10. Instead of Maynor playing 20 minutes every day. They should have given him 30 + on M,W,F and played Kruger on Tue and Thurs but what do I know....the Orlando Summer league is crap anyway. Shame on the NBA for selling out to Vegas and screwing over the Jazz's summer league which was doing them a good thing for like what 20 years. Who would design a summer league that plays 5 games in a row...isn't that putting your draft picks at risk for an injury before they even make it to training camp. Jazz picks were borderline anyway Maynor? so far he can't shoot, can't finish at the rim. At least now he will have the facilities to really pump some iron. I think that is just an excuse anyone can find ways to work out to get stronger. The Jazz second pick was a waste, I think he will be playing in europe next year, he is at best a borderline NBA athlete!
Maynor and AK should step on the scale together. They may break 200lbs. Both are weak and skinny. Both should be playing in Israel or Turkey.
Hee hee
"gee we played 3 games in 3 days"
Guess what? So has everyone else in that league. Jazz giving up lot of points even here....remember "4" 10 minute quarters
The Jazz better hope Phoenix or The Cloppers do not improve theyre squads or the jazz may not even make the playoffs. I for one am "sick and tired" of watching
our" competitors get better and better
Mr. Marion is not washed up. Trust me he will help Dallas They will win 50 games
Save it.
Our competitiors (Dallas) just re signed a washed up PG to a 3 year deal. Marion is past his prime. He was an absolute non factor in Toronto. I saw some of their games and hardly noticed when he was on the floor.
Marion will be better with Kidd passing to him but as long as they have all the "softies" they do on their team I am not concerned.
IF we are HEALTHY (yes I know thats a big if) we are better than every team in the W. Conference except Lakers and maybe Spurs (yet to be determined with addition of Jefferson--Duncans knees are declining FAST).
Teams make all these trades and rarely does it make them much better.
Lakers win and they made no "material" trades last offseason. Kept their core unit together and focused on playing better together--the exact same philosphy the Jazz use. Celtics/Garnett injured= Lakers win.
Injuries killed us last season.
Good grief--with 10 games to go we were still within reach of the 2nd seed in the West..even with all the injuries!!!
I understand the cup is always half empty for you though.
prove I am wrong. By the way Ron Artest will probably do more to help the Lakers in that environment than Ariza. By the way what did the injuries have to do with an (8-17) finish. Do not tell me the road schedule..
You are right I have been negative the last few months. Who truly would not be?
The defense last year how is it all of a sudden going to get better? Sloan or the players do theyre job what about leaving shooters open all night. Talk about soft? Okur...cmon..
when these issues are fixed, I will be happy to be Snow White or anyone else you guys want me to be and I will praise-incidentally I do praise when there is praise to be had, even for "sloan and his--sloanaholics"
@ Todd
I'm with you regarding the Mavs. They've made some good moves, and 55 wins isn't out the question for that team. Aging or not, a starting lineup comprised of Kidd, J. Howard, Marion, Nowitzki, Dampier/Gortat creates a lot of headaches for opposing teams. They should be fun to watch. Would you take it over the Jazz starting five? Keep in mind, Marion, Howard and Dampier/Gortat are all pretty solid defenders.
Them and the Jazz will have similar seasons, I trust the Mavs will get better before the Jazz unless next year the Jazz use the available cap relief and restructure this roster. Kidd can still play well, maybe not every night. I do not care how bad Marion looked in Toronto, it could have been a number of reasons such as a dead, stale franchise. Dallas enviroment, upbeat Owner, excellent and better head coach than ours, good team-i thought they finished last season well. I see about 51-52 wins..
todd I want to agree with you about Dallas but I just can't. Kidd gets absolutely annihalted by guards like Dwill, CP3, Roy, Rondo, Harrris, etc. It's a PG league right now, and it's a little hypocritical to complain about the Jazz's D but say Dallas has a better shot than us. Also if Okur is soft, Dirk is a babies backside. You, KJ, or me could drop 25 points with irk "defending" us. I agree Dallas can probably win 50 games but they are not going anywhere once the playoffs start. Something that doesn't get brought up a lot is if the Jazz can just be an average to slightly below average away team we could have a great record next year. With our talent and homecourt advantage the Jazz will probably only lose at most 5 games at home next year. But I would bet the Jazz only lose 3. That would be 38 wins right there. With only 15 away wins we are at 51-53 wins. With 20 away wins we are at 56-58.
BTW if Portland is series about offering Millsap so much money the Jazz should sign Bass with the MLE. He is 24 years old a legit 6'8 250lbs. In only 19.4 minutes a game he averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebs, he shoots about 87% FT and just a touch under 50% FG. Or Gooden 27 years old 6'10 250lbs. In 24.8 mpg he averaged about 11.9 points 7.1 rebs 84% FT and 47%FG. If everyone's numbers were adjusted to consider how many more chances there are for Millsap vs Bass and Gooden, then you realize there are cheaper players that produce the same or maybe even better than Paul. Granted it doesn't seem likely POR would rather have Millsap than Lee. They would probably be the only team that would. We should be fine next year, assuming we don't have every single player missing games and all of our key players with injuries.
as usual you do have good logic. You cannot assume the Jazz will be that great every year at home, Chadders. That puts lot of pressure to keep up the home magic. I see about 32-9 and 18-23 road for 50-32. I would like and be happy with the home record of 32,33 wins and going 21-20 road. Now you have a chance at top 4 because I feel below that it is very very hard to win a title having to 3 series with road disavantage in playoffs. Dallas is soft defensively. Jason terry when he is off to me I do not care what the rest do. he singlehandedly won a game I watched last year in Philly, terry to me is the MVP on Dallas.
Chadders: I want to hear things this summer like this and then my mood changes more upbeat
Ron Brewer worked very hard over the summer and took hundreds of jump shots and worked on his game to really go forward this season and solve #2 issue. he has the talent
Okur and Boozer worked hard to be in great condition and quicker and smarter defensively
The Jazz have been in the top 3-5 home records the last 3 years (granted that is off the top of my head). That's why I believe we shouldn't lose more than 5 home games. Traditionally it is very hard for an away team to come to Utah and win. Be it the against the Jazz, RSL, the Utes, the Cougars, or even the Blaze. There are a lot of very passionate sports fans here. Granted a lot of them don't fully understand what goes on or what matters. But they are passionate still. Most fans would rather not win a ring with say a Rasheed or RonRon than just be competative and have "good guys" on the team. I am a little more in the middle. Let's face it almost no one in the NBA is a saint. There are certain people I wouldn't want to see play for the Jazz like the rapist, Melo, Manu, etc. Not because they aren't good players just because I hate them. I would cheer if they won us a ring but I would still hate them. This team could use a "badguy" to balance out.
I wish I could agree with you but if you look at the top defensive teams they are the teams that went deep into the playoffs. Defense, as measured by opponents FG%.
Until the Jazz find a defense that works much better than the one they have (healthy or not) they are not going to be great. Also until the Jazz start winning on the road they are not winning the West. Go look at the stats over a number of years on teams with losing road records in the playoffs.
I agree that Millsap can be replace cheaply, especially as a back up. His numbers really improved when he started but fell back when Boozer started.
Millsap is a very average back up who can turn it up for a while if he starts. That is based on the actual numbers he put up last year.
@ Chadders
I completely agree with you that there are a bevy of young, highly-skilled PGs in the league, but is it really a PG league? The two teams battling for a championship this past season boasted Derrick Fisher and Rafer Alston as their starting PGs. That's what I call below-average talent at the position. On the other hand, not a one of those guys on your list (Dwill, CP3, Roy, Rondo, Harris) went deep in the playoffs, one didn't even make the playoffs (Harris). I guess what I'm saying is Kidd's deficiencies won't matter nearly as much if the talent around him excels. With Nowitzki, Marion, Howard, Terry, Gortat surrounding him, and the possibility of Bass returning, there's a good chance that happens.
Too funny Chadders...when you compare adjusted numbers there are not any cheap players in the NBA that perform close to Millsap's level. Go look at the Hollinger's PER rating which makes this exact comparison and you see that Millsap was the 45th best player in the entire league and Utah's second highest rated player, yes above Okur, Boozer and the rest.
To KJ and Chadders
I don't know if I would say it is a PG league but how about we change that to a Guard league. Kobe many times runs the point although he is not a PG. Hedo ran the point a lot and he is not a PG. It seems to me that the league is becoming a guard league. Not a PG league. The top contenders are ones that have a very good guard or point forward but that guard can be a shooting guard like Kobe. I wouldn't say PG league but a guard league
Did you know that CJ is taking 2,000 jumpers a day. Running 10 miles and lifting weights for 2 hours. He is going to dominate next year if Jerry will just give him the ball.
