I recall in the early 50s going out in this area and watching boat races and water skiing. Then the Gov. drained it all to get rid of the mosquito breeding grounds.

So where is it? Is it accessible by car for birdwatching (as the Bear River sanctuary is)? Further info would be helpful.

Not much info on the actual location or design....is this just a birmed up ponding area for insects to populate and birds to feast? Is it accessible to the public? The story and pictures are not very detailed.

I don't mind that the land was donated/bought by this group, but you have do wonder how much in State funds is going to the birds. Literally. If the birds have been stopping at the GSL for hundreds (thousands?) if years on their way to South America, did they really need a new sanctuary? The shores of the GSL seem like they have worked fine so far.
But kudos to the birds for having a new place to eat, I guess.

BIRDS ARE SMARTER THAN DOGS! Stop killing them. They are loving feathered friends and get depressed just like you do sometimes. I am sooo happy some people care about these beautiful animals. And birds also have the ability to fly unlike other low ground animals.

How sad that all you can see are dollar signs.

It takes a perceptive person to understand how important wildlife sanctuaries are to us on this planet if we all are to survive.

I wish the schools would take more time to teach ecology, since we seem to have lost our natural feel for it.
