I have a question? | 8:22 a.m. July 6, 2009
If we are all children of our Heavenly Father why is it we have to single out certain populations. We have Tongan Wards, Samoan Wards, Hispanic YSA and many others? Should not we all be living and doing together and finding ways to break down the culture gap? By singling certain groups out do not widen that gap?

I just don't understand the need for there to be a separate division for Hispanic young single adults. We are told all the time that we are supposed to be "one." I may not understand what is trying to be accomplished with this program, but it seems to me like it only causes us to focus more on what is different about us and not what is the same.

We need to understand that Gods way is not our way! I dont have a problem with ethnic wards and stakes as the spirit will eventually unified the understanding of the saints of the restored gospel, hence we should live our lives that no cultural barrier comes between us and our faith in God.
Rest assured though, that the time will come that there will be one faith one language, one God one people.
Keep the faith!

To the 3:37 commentator,
My understanding is that the issue is "ethnic" but "linguistic".
That is also a big issue with the YSA conference.
At the same time, while unity is good, it can not be forced. When many people see a Hispanic and assume "he is hear illegally" and act accordingly, we have to recognize that they have seperate issues.
We also must remember that being able to understnad the gospel in a language is different than being able to talk in it, and language is very closely connected with culture.
As long as people in some wards have down-right hateful attitudes towards people singing in Spanish than we will need seperate units.
Unity is a good thing, but it can only be achieved by all working towards it. As long as some members feel that other members have to do all the changing and all the accepting of someone else's culture, and are unwilling to adapt or change to help others feel included there will be a need for Samoan wards and Hispanic YSA conferences.

Aqui es la cosa que no estan pensando, hay muchas personas en este area quien no pueden entender lo que esta pasando en las reuniones porque no hablan ingles. Just like you cant understand that, these people cant understand english. We are all to be nourished by the good word of God, they should have the same opportunity. By your idiotic remarks you obviously dont understand the purpose of other language wards and branches. Number one to help them grow spiritually, then to help them learn English not only to better their lives but also to eventually join you in the English wards. Please leave your sheltered bubble and think outside of the box, put yourselves in their shoes. Follow the prophet and keep the boca shut.
