It's nice to finally read something positive in the news. This writer should start their own uplifting newspaper.... I'd buy it:)
What a soft piece of journalistic fuzz! Yuk!
This is a wonderful article, and the photograph has made my day. I love parrots and as well the owner of one such bird. Thank you, Deseret News.
All he has accomplished is making the zoo dependent on taxpayer money. The zoo receives more money now from taxpayers then ever. They do not have a strong fund raising base where private donors and institutions give them money. The large projects they've built in recent years have all been built on the backs of homeowners, with property taxes. Sorry, he may be a good man, a good role model and cares about the animals but he needs to take a lesson in fundraising 101 and learn to get money from private donors. Sorry. I like the zoo but I'm tired of paying for it with my tax dollars.
HGolightly, the amount of taxes you personally are paying for the Zoo is not even worth talking about!
Mr. Dinsmore has done a great job in building up this nice Zoo, especially with the built-in disadvantages he faces (small acreage, small population base). The Zoo's Asian Highlands is an amazing exhibit -- nice cat habitats and a very realistic re-creation of an Asian community. Elephant Encounter is one of the best elephant exhibits in the nation. With the new funding, the future definitely looks bright for the Hogle Zoo -- and much of the credit of this goes to Mr. Dinsmore.

You need to find something worth while to gripe about.
My kids enjoy Hogle Zoo, and I'm happy we have it.
Get a job and quit griping.
Hey, That is one good looking bird on this article. Cockatoos are unique parrot birds. My friend has a Macaw parrot and is one heck of a neat bird, too. They are pretty darn smart animals and good house pets.
