That is impressive, Utah has only won 15 games against BYU since I have been born.
Impressive stat! | 10:36 p.m. July 3, 2009
How many League title has the utes won outright since joining the leaving the Skyline Conference?

Answer not many...3 in the last 50 years.
Skierelmo | 10:43 p.m. July 3, 2009
A Couple points, first, as a Ute fan, Ludwig drove me nuts, I could call the play by formation from the stands!! Schram can't be that predictable. Second, BJ was only good the last 2 minutes of the game. As long as they are more consistant, I will take all three of the competitors (though I prefer Cain). Finaly, If we beat Oregon... undefeated is not out of the realm of possibility... but thats a HUGE If for any of our young QB's. PS. BYU will lose week one, so we have a better chance... have fun in Vegas!!!!

Utah has had two great seasons. Hats off to you. But Utah hasn't even finished in the top 25 more than 5 times in their history, compared to BYU's 15 in the last 30 years. And it gets more impressive as you get into the 70's.

Can't wait for Utah to go undefeated twice in the same decade again, but history tells me the chances of them even finishing in the top 25 in the same decade won't happen again in my lifetime. Oh well, guess it's back to BYU for the foreseeable future, if history repeats.

If we're comparing undefeated seasons, Utah finally tipped that scale in their favor as of last year, but if that's your only argument and the success you sit on, then I guess you didn't have much to talk about until now. I look forward to the coming years of BYU finishing in the top 25 again and again, and the mutes ignoring the loud reality of their mediocrity year after year. If the Utes are great again even in four years from now, it'll go against anything the Utes have done before.

If Jordan Wynn gets a fair and true shot at being the starter, he will take over. He was a natural born leader and his name is excactly what he is all about. Wynn... I know this is college ball but look at his record in high school. 24-1-1. 2 CIF San Diego section titles and a California state title. Something most people have zero clue about him is, he is a Genius when it comes to reading defenses. You either have it or you dont and he has it!!! He has the strongest arm and it is only going to get stronger as he continues to bulk up!!!
Excited to see Louks | 8:26 a.m. July 4, 2009
I can't wait to see how this kid handles the pressure assuming he wins the starting job. I think he has the athletic ability to do the job.
Good luck Louks!
30 lbs? | 8:57 a.m. July 4, 2009
There is only one way a kid like that can put on 30lbs in a few months.
hmm, hmm. You know what I mean
Uncle Reality on Jordan Wynn | 9:02 a.m. July 4, 2009
I think Louks will start, but the State of Utah hasn't had a better true freshman quarterback in Jordan Wynn since Ty Detmer played at BYU back in the early 1990's.

I was at spring practice and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some commentors on this board have said that Jordan Wynn was just lucky in his passes at spring practice. What?! I thought Jordan's passes were more accurate and well-thrown than any of the other guys. This guy is going to a powerhouse. As long as he doesn't get injured, Utah has a great future in this guy.
Just a reminder...  | 12:22 p.m. July 4, 2009
The Utes lead the all time series 53—33—4 or 50—30—4, depending on whether the first six meetings are counted. Numbers don't lie. The Utes own BYU football for many years to come.
Re: Wow... | 10:26 p.m.  | 1:00 p.m. July 4, 2009
I believe that makes you older than the maturity in your post indicates.
Enuff Said | 1:31 p.m. July 4, 2009
Louks is now over 200 lbs with 4.4 speed and benching over 300lbs at 4% body fat. I think his dedication speaks for itself. As for throwing, nearly 6000 yards passing and 50 tds his 2 years in high school are pretty telling. Actual college game turnovers, 1 i believe, EVER. How bout some of you give the kid his shot. All he did was come in as a true freshman and waive his redshirt year to help the team and produced nearly every time he touched the ball the last 2 years.
8675309 | 9:56 p.m. July 4, 2009
I think Louks is going to be an exciting player. Every time he got into the game last year he did nothing but score touchdowns.
Re: Re: Wow | 11:02 p.m. July 4, 2009
My maturity far more out weights your ute education.
Just a reminder... | 11:07 p.m. July 4, 2009
Look at modern day football or since they join Division 1 Football and BYU owns utah, hands down.

Oh and BSU owns utah too, especially since BSU just joined Division 1 not too long ago.
As a guy on the roster for the U | 10:41 a.m. July 5, 2009
and the fact that I played spring ball this year, I will be upset if Terrance Cain doesn't get the starting job. Louks has an awful arm and Louks really struggles when it comes to making reads. If we want to get to a bowl game this year, the coaches need to play Cain.
Louks | 8:07 a.m. July 6, 2009
The guy is the prototype for risk/reward discussion. He can make the great play at any time, with his legs or his arm as he showed in the spring game. But he can also make the bonehead play that costs teams a game at any time, as he also showed in spring.

He is too inconsistent to be the starter, Cain needs to take the job and run with it early in fall camp. He seems much more under control. Nothing flashy, but seems capable of making better decisions throughout a game. Kind of reminds you of a recent QB at the U. Some guy that won the Sugar Bowl back in January.
Re: Re: Re: Wow 11:02 | 10:26 a.m. July 6, 2009
Hilarious. Slamming an education while saying "out weights" in the same sentence.

I have some serious doubts about Louks, but IF he develops as a passer, he could have a great season. Planning for a guy that can run like he does, and throw a decent pass is very difficult. He has a huge upside. Ultimately though, I think that Cain will get the job. But as many posters have said, it is the person that can perform under pressure that we need the most.
My opinion is that the talk of playing Wynn is overrated. The coaching staff did the same thing in the media last year with Shak. Wynn will redshirt this year and take the needed time to develop. You don't burry a guy with that much upside two or three deep in the roster. Let him learn the plays and fill out a little more so he can tear it up next year.
My prediction is that BYU and Utah will end the season with the same record. 9-3. Utah has a lot of potential though, so I am hoping for more.
Deja-Vu | 11:55 a.m. July 6, 2009
Is Wynn the second coming of Alex Smith?

Alex Smith led his high school to a record of 25-1, including two San Diego CIF section championships.

Jordan Wynn led his high school to a record of 24-1-1, including two San Diego CIF section championships.

Both kids came into the program skinny and look how Alex left the U...
Wonderful Problem? | 12:34 p.m. July 6, 2009
What a wonderful problem for the U to finaly have. In the past if Johnson went down there was no one to fill the role with the style of offense that the Utes run. Now you have 3 guys who have the ability and speed to run your offense. And for those of you who thing Louks can't pass are fooling youselves. This kid has a decent arm, as we learned with Johnson and as Max so aptly showed the Cougars last year, a great arm means nothing if you make bad decisions!!! GO UTES!!!!!!!
Ref: Deja Vu | 12:49 p.m. July 6, 2009
Yea Alex left as the biggest first pick bust in the history of the NFL. Nice job.
TO ETB | 12:51 p.m. July 6, 2009
And BYu has had more NCs than the utes have had in the entire history.
If Jordan Wynn | 12:52 p.m. July 6, 2009
is starting against the aggies, then the utes are in big trouble. It means the other guys really are bad.
Give it a Rest!!! | 2:09 p.m. July 6, 2009
BYU fans, you all need to get a life. Coming onto a Utah article and posting a bunch of rubbish. Who cares what happened in 1984, most of the players today were not even born yet or even thought of. Right now, Utah is the MWC Champs. Until they are knocked off, they are the ones to beat. Until BYU can do that, they are playing second fiddle..... actually third fiddle behind TCU. No one cares about 1984, no one cares about 1934, and no one cares about 2004. Right now, Utah is the best, they are the CHAMPS!! We will see next year if anyone can dethrone them. May the best team dominate!!!!!!!
Striker | 2:14 p.m. July 6, 2009
Yeah, it's no surprise he said he's getting ready for Utah State, an easy win, but fails to look at the next 5 games. 4 are away and one is at home vs. Louisville. With a very inexperienced QB and so many players gone, Utah will be lucky to get at .500 half way through the season. Oh how the mighty fall so fast!
BY Ewe | 2:44 p.m. July 6, 2009
It's funny to listen to all of the BYU fans predicting the demise of the U this year in football.

I for one will be watching BYU get spanked over national television to Oklahoma. BYU will then lose to Florida State and Tulane. Before Conference play starts, BYU will be 0-3.
re: Striker | 2:59 p.m. July 6, 2009
Funny comment coming from a Cougar fan staring a 1-3 start right in the face.

Destroyed at Oklahoma
Toss Up with Tulane
Likely loss to FSU, speed kills the Cougars as we all know

Then having to face TCU and Utah, teams that defeated BYU by a combined 80-31 score last year.

Completely new O-Line, new young receivers, same Maxie making mistakes, and the same horrible defense on the field.

Not even a catchy slogan like "Quest For Perfection" could deter from the trainwreck awaiting the Cougars.

Can Jake Heaps graduate early and enroll by September? Can he play in the secondary?
Re: Re: Striker | 4:07 p.m. July 6, 2009
Sounds like a lot of wishful thinking on your part. Watch out for the Aggies. That would be hilarious, right off the bat.
Anonymous | 5:20 p.m. July 6, 2009
How nice is it to know Utah has three QB's and all the zoober weenies can put on the field is Max "Honk if you intercepted me" Hall...why? because he gives good firesides not because he has talent...Riley Nelson would be your better bet.

See ya in November losers... as in Las Vegas bowl losers.
re: 4:07PM | 5:24 p.m. July 6, 2009
"Watch out for the Aggies."

Why, are they going to win more than 3 games for the first time this decade?

Expecting BYU to lose to more athletic teams, or teams ranked in polls, is not wishful. It has been shown to be a fact.
REfF: Striker | 5:44 p.m. July 6, 2009
and the utes never lost to a more athletic team, like Beck to Harline and 4th and 18. No, that never happens to the uties.

Darn it all, Louks just divulged our secret to developing the athleticism of our UTES... an eggs and chicken diet.

Look for poultry shortages soon in Utah county!
re: REfF: Striker | 7:47 a.m. July 7, 2009
BYU
1-22 versus ranked teams.

Utah
Most victories of any non-BCS team versus BCS opponents.

I think pretty much settles that argument doesn't it. One team can step up and play with the big boys, while the other hides like a frightened little girl.
REF: Striker | 9:08 a.m. July 7, 2009
Yea, that's why the uties start the season with the worst team in college football and the cougs start with the best. Because they just "hide". Your smack doesn't hold up. If the uties had a national rep like the cougs, they would've been invited to the biggest regular season game of 2009, but they don't and they weren't. So sad, too bad.
Re:Ref: Striker 9:08 | 9:53 a.m. July 7, 2009
Invited to "the biggest regular season game of 2009"? Honestly, come on. You make cougar fans sound so childish. There are a ton of rivalry games that are bigger, not to mention the USC v. Ohio State game. It is painful how naive you can be. It is a big game for BYU, but it isn't the super bowl. Oklahoma is planning to play in at least 3 games bigger than the BYU game. And realistically, it is one of the least important games on their schedule. If they win the Big XII, then they are on a fast track to the MNC, so there are probably 8 bigger games than BYU.
Re: Give it a rest | 10:28 a.m. July 7, 2009
Oh, okay. So when BYU fans post 40 messages on a Utah article it's "a bunch of rubbish." But when Utah fans post 150 messages on a BYU article it's perfectly normal.

Yep, I'm sure there's great logic there that somehow makes sense to you, but I'm not seeing it.

So, has the "why?" finally changed their fight song from "Rise & Shout" to "It's a Small World Afterall"?

The Campus is your World.
re: Striker | 11:37 a.m. July 7, 2009
Sorry, but there are about $3,000,000 reasons BYU is playing Oklahoma. Nothing more, nothing less.

BYU has taken a page out of the Aggies handbook. Take a big pay day to be somebodys punching bag for 3 hours.

That sure reaks of "national respect" doesn't it.

Try winning a big game before you talk smack.
Fantasyland | 11:40 a.m. July 7, 2009
Your so called "biggest regular season game of 2009" will still pale in comparison to the significance of the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

Do zoobs think that losing to Oklahoma in their season opener demonstrates the greatness of their football legacy? Last year's season opener for Oklahoma was the football dynasty of Tennessee-Chattanooga. THAT game ended in a 57-2 drubbing. What the "why?" doesn't know is that while Oklahoma chose to open their season vs a team with a football legacy, THAT LEGACY is one who:

1. Can't win the big game
2. Is 1-22 vs. ranked opponents since 1997.
3. Will accept 40% less of the gate receipt revenue than the Sooners will receive.
4. Will ensure Oklahoma won't be eliminated from the NC picture by pulling off an upset (see #1 and #2).

Go zoobs!
FYI zoobs... | 11:53 a.m. July 7, 2009
Here is the list of season openers for Oklahoma:

2008: Tennessee-Chattanooga
2007: No. Texas
2006: UAB
2005: TCU (following the Frogs 5-6 season of 2004)
2004: Bowling Green
2003: No. Texas
2002: Tulsa
2001: No. Carolina (in the Hispanic Coaches Classic)
2000: UTEP
1999: Indiana St.
1998: No. Texas
1997: Northwestern
1996: TCU (following the Frogs 4-7 season of 1995)
1995: San Diego St.

Do you zoobs STILL think you were selected as their season opening opponent as anything more than a "sure thing". Oklahoma has as much respect for you as they do for Tenn-Chattanooga, No. Texas, Indiana St, UTEP, Bowling Green, et al.

Sad, misguided zoobs.

If you are OU, with a tough conference schedule, which non-conference team do you risk your national title chances against Utah, Boise, TCU, or BYU on a neutral site:

UTAH: with the most victories of any non-BCS team versus BCS opponents or BYU: 1-22 against ranked opponents

Congratulations BYU for being picked as a punching bag for OU's season opener. Just like Charleston Southern for FL, San Jose State for USC, and Louisiana-Monroe for Texas.

Like the Utes when you EARNED a reputation on the field of winning non-cream-puff teams you too then will get an invite to the biggest games, in this era it is called the BCS games.
Stupid mud slinging | 12:05 p.m. July 7, 2009
let's face it Good BYU is Good for Utah, a good Ute team is good for BYU. The problem is Little brother fans that think that anything that is written or said in July has impact in November. Get over it little brother.

If this kid can't throw he may need a good back up. If it were me I'd go man and pin my ears back with 8 in the box. His speed may also be a bit of hype too. 1 sure thing changing QB's isn't easy.
Leave TDS alone | 12:33 p.m. July 7, 2009
If the only way the zoobs can feel better about their team is to tell themselves they have a touger schedule this year than let them. They had one of the weakest if FBS SOS last year and pulled a 10-3 season, now they have a tough one they can prepare for a 5 lose year and then winning a bowl game when they go down to the New Mexico bowl.
As for the 3 mil to play OU, at least they are making their own money now instead out Utah handing it to them. Everyone knows they won't make any money from a BCS game!
If only we had as much respect as the TDS, then Dan Patrick could make fun of our NC too on national radio, but instead all he has to say is how we destroyed Alabama.

Win the big one?? Won enough for a National Championship!! Utes have won enough big ones to do that. LOL!!!
re: Ref: Fantasyland | 9:56 a.m. July 8, 2009
Sorry, but if the same system had been in place during the 2004-05 & 2008-09 seasons, the Utes had probably done MORE than BYU had done in 1984 and would have 2 National Championships.

That's the truth.

To: Aaron | 1:40 p.m. July 8, 2009
Uties better worry about their own matchup with the Aggies. First game, first start for an unknown, first Anderson game against his former employer, a really jacked up Aggie team at home. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Re: To: Aaron | 2:32 p.m. July 8, 2009
Thank you for showing how much BYU fans think about Utah. Apparently that's all they can think about.

An Aggie fan hypes their team against BYU and the BYU response is to bring the Utes into the discussion.

That little brother syndrome is getting worse by the day down south.
Re: To: Aaron | 3:49 p.m. July 8, 2009
"... a really jacked up Aggie team at home."

Silly tdS fan. The Utes will face the Aggies in SLC. USU's home game was last year.

As a die-hard Utah and MWC fan, it still wouldn't hurt me to see Utah St. drub the tdS. It's not like the tdS was going to earn the MWC any respect anyway, and despite who wins, Utah's SOS remains the same.

Go Aggies.

GO UTES!!!
