Jordan Wynn is the future, and Terrance Cain is a great insurance option, but
Louks will win this job, lead the Utes to another double-digit win season, and
maybe win the MWC.

Wow, Louks sure is arrogant thinking he'll be able to duplicate last
season's success. And he also thinks he'll be able to have a great
passing game even though the coaches used him as a running QB. But those darn
coaches what do they know anyway.

Louks has proven one thing already. He goes for it! He is not content to run out
of bounds when he sees an opportunity to pick-up yards. The CSU game was proof
of that last season. Good luck to all the guys, and remember GO UTES!!!

I agree that Louks will win this thing. I am not sold that he will retain the
job just yet. It all depends on how well he handles "true" game
pressure. After all, the only thing we have asked of him thus far is to come in
and run a package. I like the kids confidence and competitive spirit. I am in
his corner and I hope to see him come in and be consistent as a leader and
passer.
I do question our depth at RB. If Asiata goes down, I am not sure Shak is ready to shoulder a full load with Eddie Wide. The O-LINE is stacked and we are deep at WR it is unreal. That is why we need a qb to emerge.

Max Hall.
Ute fans Louks is going to be solid. The one thing that separates Utah from BYU is that we don't need to have a qb that throws for 350 yards and 5 td's each game for our team to be successful. If Louks manages the game, controls the ball the running game will always be there and the other thing Utah has that BYU has NOT is something called A DEFENSE!!!!!!

Louks could be very dangerous for defenses. If he can get a few completions then
defenses will have to sag off to guard the pass....but you better not sag off
too far. This kid has some wheels and could run for a lot of yardage.

You're either a BYU fan posing as a Ute, or a fool. The Ute football program has been on a steady upward climb ever since Ron McBride took over nearly 20 years ago. We're way past the point where the success of the entire season rested on just one game. These days, it's BYU feeling envious of the success and accomplishments of its Big Brother to the north. And the facts are indisputable that, more often than not since 1993, the Utes have bested the Cougars in the annual rivalry contest.

We have a competition at quarterback that most teams would do anything to have.
Regardless of who is selected at the quarterback spot, I can see a scenario
where customized packages are put in to take advantage of the different
strengths each has. It's going to be an exciting year.

BYU fans are talking about a QB that might see the field for a year and then
he's gone for the next two years. They never live in the now, it's
either what they did 25 years ago or what their going to do 3 years from now.

Louks will be fine at QB. I'm not concerned about his throwing ability.
I'm really more concerned that his running ability will set him up for
injury like Johnson during his sophomore year.
If that happens, Cain will be a suitable replacement. Shouldn't be much drop off as they have shown to be complementary during Spring ball.

I agree with the ones who are skeptical of Louks. While I love his running
ability, we have yet to see him pass the ball. How do we know he has that
ability. But we shall soon find out. I will be sitting in section E31 every
game, and am very excited to see how this team pans out. I think we have a
pretty good team, but it's going to be very very very hard to go undefeated
again. We have a bullseye on our heads now. Every team is going to want a
piece. Yes even Utah St.

It is hard to forget BYU's success with a Sr. QB at the helm. They are very successful. No doubt about it.
But, Tyler, remember that Austin Collie and Paul Kruger are both gone this year. Who else is BYU's Sr QB going to throw it to this year?

yes the Cougars are so envious of the EWE......twist the numbers how you
want...in the last 20 games it's????? 10-10.....since 1989.....that's
total domination..ppphhhhh......a couple of undefeated seasons and EWE fans
sound just like fans from Provo...we're the best, we're the greatest,
nobody can stop us.....until the EWE does this for more than a couple of years

I am worried about Louks. The kid has serious speed and we all know that an
athletic, fast QB is the very worst thing for the BYU defense. It will only help
him and the other QBs to have this competition. Ever since the Snow College -
now S. Utah kid got hurt competing against Hall three springs ago Max has had
absolutely ZERO competition. He has had to rely on pushing himself to get better
and Doman pushing him as well. Maybe his late season demise was good for him in
the long run as he has had to create his own motivation. Beck was actually the
same way - no one pushing him his last two seasons. Next season there should be
a bunch of young Cougar QBs all with roughly the same eligibility pushing each
other like Beck and Hall really never had.
Good luck to the Utes. Most intelligent fans want their rival to do well except during the big rivalry game. I expect Louks to bring similar athleticism to the position that Johnson had before his injuries. His arm will be just fine. Let's just hope our 4.6 corners can keep up!

Props to Louks for his hard work and confidence. It will be interesting to see
how this plays out in fall camp. Terrance Cain might be the real deal.
With the talent the Utes return and the needs the recruiting class filled, the play at QB will be huge. The conservative play calling of 2003 might be the way to go to keep the inexperienced QBs from turning the ball over, then open it up like 2004.

Good point. Cain was the nation's top JUCO QB last recruiting season. He's a proven dual-threat QB, who despite his inexperience at the D-1 level, may actually be a better fit for the no-huddle offense the Utes will be trying to implement for the 2009 season.
Due to all the graduations and early entries into the NFL, we can expect to see a drop-off in production -- particularly on the offensive side -- but our schedule won't likely be as challenging as last year's. Louisville won't be a solid as Oregon St. San Jose St. couldn't possibly be any worse than last year's Michigan. Oregon will really be our only notable OOC opponent; they should be Top-10 by the time we face them in Eugene. If we can get by them, I wouldn't expect tougher opposition from the tdS. TCU will be the only real team standing in the way between us and another MWC crown.
The tdS will go 0-12 this season, but still get invited to the Las Vegas Bowl.

We at the Las Vegas Bowl selection committee feel that the soon-to-be 0-12
cougars will be only a few missed calls, and 2 plays away from a 6-6 season,
making them the "best [future] 6-6 team in the country". With that in
mind, as of THIS afternoon, it is our honor to formally invite the BYLose
cougars to face a TBD 5th place PAC-10 team come late December.

I think the U is in an envious, yet difficult situation. Louks, Cain, Wynn I think are all fantastic athletes. Skill alone, any one of them can do the job more than adequately. Question lies in mental toughness and leadership skills. Who is gonna thrive or crack under pressure in places like Eugene and Fort Worth? B. Johnson wasn't the "greatest" QB in the world, but he showed extraordinary mental toughness and leadership. That is one of the reasons why the team did so well while he was QB. So which QB is going to lead this team the right way. I dunno. Insights anyone?

He was 9 for 15 with 145 yards. that is 16.1 yards a pass. I know that it is a
small amount but he obviously didn't make bad decisions . By now means are
those great starts but it seems solid. I wouldn't worry about his arm. A
few people here complain about him being inconsistant. Wasn't that a big
problem with Johnson? People talked about him fumbling the ball and making poor
decisions when passing but it seems to me that he did pretty well last year.
Didn't he end up winning like 22 out of his last 23 games of something? He
turned out pretty good for an inconsistant QB. I wouldn't worry much about
the QB situation. They have good coaches and it looks like they do a lot to get
better and a tight competition is really going to help. I think they will be
fine. I highly doubt they will have the stats that Hall does at BYU but then
again BYU is a pass happy offense that just hurts themselves. The U has better
coaches and I think they will have a better season than the Y

I thought Cain looked like he might be the real deal in the Red-White game- in
particular, for this offense. But Jordan Wynn? That kid looks like he has a
cannon. He completed some passes in tight coverage that he will not get away
with often in the regular season. But he looked to me like he may ultimately be
the best of the bunch. I just wonder if he's destined to red shirt, 2nd or
3rd string Cain's senior year, then start as a soph.

Why are there so many fans, red or blue, that are so full of it? They don't
deal in reality! It is great for all teams in the state of Utah to have success,
even Snow College and Dixie. It is great to root for a team. But fans who deal

Went to the spring game just to watch the QB comparison. I was disapointed the
way Louks mechanics looked. He has a wind up and a slow release. Which means
pick pick pick. How can a kid who is a Junior have such poor mechanics. Where
has the QB coach been. I also watched Cain, good mechanics and control quick
release. For those reasons Cain gets the job. Very arrogant of the writer of
this article to already anoint Louks. He throws sloppy!!! With that just
can't get the job done...

I was at the same spring game Wynn a cannon? you gotta be kidding me. He has a good accurate arm but no cannon. Made some lucky passes, needs to put on weight and fill out. He does have future potential
Cain is the best in the mix.
The U has a questionable OC, with no credentials really could hurt the offense.

Dave Schram will be just fine. The guy has been around long enough. I actually
think the U offense is going to be better under him. Louks or whoever starts
will be just fine.

i dont think any utah fans have to be worried.we should all by now, be trusting
of the coaching staff. you can see whitts wins increase every year.not to say
that we will go undefeated. the oregon game is going to be huge.in all the utes
return something like 25 redshirt freshman.we got 2 big d tackles and the number
1 juco de.moved misi to lb.we will have one of the strongest front seven in the
nation.as for the cougs,they will still be soft on d but great on o. got utes...

Louks is the QB. He's a winner. Brian didn't have the best arm and
couldn't see the whole field, but he was a winner. Did you ever feel good
about Brian throwing downfield? Corbin has a better arm and better wheels. If
Coach Schram runs and throws like I think he will Corbin won't be running
exposed to injury much. Teams have to respect his speed which will open the
passing game. Also he's got three years of UTE conditioning.

I think it's funny that Ute fans think BYU's defense is going to be SO TERRIBLE. I heard an earlier comment about BYU's 4.6 corners. Well those 4.6 corners are going to be replaced with the JC 4.4 corners so don't worry about that. I realize we have some of the same athletes from last year but they aren't going to be worse, they've had a whole season of starting experience, that does more than you think. We have all the same D-line, basically all the same linebackers except for Nixon. He was our biggest loss for sure. But the other 10 spots will be improved. I really doubt that Jordan Wynn will start this year. However, I have been told by people on the staff that there is a good chance he will get "significant" playing time with a good chance that he will be the starting quarterback next year. I saw them in the spring game. All three QB's are very capable--I'm
glad I'm not the one who has to choose the starter. Whoever it is,
we'll have great depth. The key will be finding the guy who can complete
passes on 3rd and 4th down in the final minute like BJ did. That kind of
composure and guts are rare and you won't know who has them until the chips
are down. TDS and TCU will both be incredibly tough road games this year, but we
have all the elements to pull it off. Go Utes!

Jordan Wynn has put on 30 lbs of muscle since spring ball...he has dedicated
