My family and I spent several hours last night with Iraqis being resettled here in Salt Lake City. As I expected, all that we met were warm and friendly and quick to tell you their story. My sons brought their soccer balls and a pick-up game began immediately. I watched my daughter walking hand in hand with a group of little Iraqi girls. Didn't seem to matter that neither could speak the others language; they still found a way to play together.

Welcome, friends!

Many of these people risked their lives to assist our troops (who were indeed risking their lives assisting the people of Iraq).

I welcome then to the United States, and hope that they quickly gain acceptance and improve their lives.

Freedom and liberty are universal dreams of all people, and while it may take a while before they can gain the material comforts enjoyed by most Americans, I have no doubt that they eventually will.

I look forward to their becoming U.S. citizens some day, if they choose to become Americans.
