real threat. OKC does not need Millsap. They might replace Green with Millsap but not at 13 Mill. Green makes 3.6 mill and has better numbers than Millsap.
MEM wants cheap beef to go with Thabeet. Millsap is an ideal choice for them if he does not cost to much.
If the Jazz move Boozer in trade they will get a young promising player and junk they can release.
If Koufos or Suton are playing well enough to back up Boozer, the Jazz will not miss Millsap as a back up if the Jazz keep Boozer.
Millsap should have been contracted back in Nov. before the world recognized he could start. That was a Jazz management mistake. They knew he had talent. He will cost them much more now.
...that Millsap is going to get some massive offer in this economic environment. Okur and Booz could not get deals and they are better than Millsap. Why would someone offer $10+ to Millsap? If they do then if I were Millsap I would take the money and run but I doubt it is going to happen.
"The Jazz may or may not bring back Ronnie Price." Wow, now that is some astute reporting.
Paul is a great player, but I hope the Jazz don't AK his contract. Don't pay out for what he might become. He may be a 20 and 10 guy, but we don't know that yet. Make him prove it.
is tall, athletic, quick, has inside moves, can finish, plays defense, rebounds and can shoot the mid range and 3.
Millsap is not the ideal PF. He is not tall, quick, lacks moves (fixable), tries to play defense (fouls) and is not a great shooter (may improve).
On the other hand, if Koufos or Suton improve thier quickness enough, and develop their inside moves, they might be closer to the ideal PF. Lateral movement may also be an issue.
The best move would be to trade for the right young PF. That is faster than getting lucky in next years draft.
Millsap will get midlevel exemption type money. So about 5 or 6 million a year. They will probably sign him too. The Jazz have enough expiring contracts to make a trade before the all star break or if they decide to hold on to everyone they will only be in the luxury tax for 1 year. Then most of the big contracts come off of the books.
Does anyone know if trades before the February deadline this coming season impact the luxury tax issue? In other words: To trade Boozer's $12.7 million contract you have to get close to that amount in return; correct? So what difference does it make to the LUXURY TAX issue? It seems not to make a difference. Am I right or wrong on this?
Teams have to take back at least 75 percent in salary of what they send, so there is a little relief that way, but not a ton
If the Jazz trade Boozer to a team under the cap the Jazz can trade him for anything. For Example Boozer to Memphis for a 2nd round pick.
If a team is at the salary cap - the Jazz can only trade him to a player at 75% of the salary. That saves about 2 million in taxes.
The next option will be for the to buy out Harpring's contract. The Jazz will still have to pay Harpring Contract, but it saves the team 6.5 million in taxes.
What happened to all the Bosh talk? He reportedly wants out and also has a 1 year expiring contract that we could trade Booze for straight across. He could also help the Jazz go to the Western Conf. Finals, and winning like that seems to help people want to re-sign after their contract is up.
Come on Jazz, lets see a quality trade to mix it up a little bit and give us some hope! :)
You can trade a player get back contracts that equal at least 75% of the traded player, and then release or buy out the players you received in the trade. Tha Jazz have done this several times over the years.
Carlos Boozer will never play another game wearing a Jazz jersey! Now watch and I will remind all of you in the next couple months about what I just pridicted.
Just want to say I LOVE this article. This is what I want to read - a comprehensive list of the talk around the league from numberous sources with regards to things that could impact our team. Much better than a lot of waffling on... keep it up.
Look for Hedo to join his country man Memo in a Jazz uni soon! Look out then from the three range with D-Will Korver, Memo, and Hedo bombing them in.
If I were KOC:
I would go after Ariza....
Trade AK47 and pick up Hedo
Trade Booz for Hamilton, if not let Milsap go
And Draft 2010 pick Renardo Sydney!
The NBA experience would improve if the cut the Jazz and the Kings and then started a minor league.
MEANWHILE EVEN LOUSY DETROIT GETS BETTER
GORDON AND VILLANUEVA NOW PISTONS
O CONNOR LOSES AGAIN!! NO TRADE HECK NOT EVEN ADDING TO ALREADY OVER CAP TO "GET BETTER"
TO ALL JAZZ SLOAN AND HOLICS JUST WHAT YOU ALL WANTED! SAME ROSTER AS 2008-2009 AND COACHES
BOOZER MAY BE MOVED BY DEADLINE'''AH TAKES 2 TO TANGOOOO
ENJOY A GREAT YEAR GO GET EM KIDS.....
Here seems the most likely and best out come the jazz could hope for:
THe knicks resign David Lee,
then do sign and trade, LEE for Boozer,
Boozer seems perfect fit in NY,
and kind of move they would make,
and LEE for Utah Jazz.
I actually agree with all you said about Detroit but once again what does this have to do with Sloan. It is O'Conner but you just like to blame Sloan because you think he is mean for making his players play like men. I bet you felt tingles up your leg when reading John Amechis self pity book on how mean Sloan was to him. O'Conner has been incredibly inconsistent over and over again but because of only 4 good or great moves in the last decade he still has a job here.
As much as I dislike Boozer, I'd rather keep him around and benefit from his expiring contract next year than pick up another undersized, slow, white PF. Guaranteed Lee will be overpaid and he actually averages FEWER blocked shots per game during his career than Boozer, if you can believe that.
To sum up: weaker offense, no upgrade on defense, roughly equal on rebounding, and longterm, salary-cap destroying deal. Not a good idea.
