When we put our blue turf up for sale a few years back, it went for $100. I believe we sold out in a few months, but the Utes will probably take longer because they don't have the fan base that BS has.
Turf sales smack talk. Wow, you guys sold some turf. Did you get a trophy for that? Impressive. Guess what, no one cares.
Way over priced!
Utah and Boise fans arguing about how much their turf costs. Probably because both don't have a National Title in their trophy case.
Hmm ... how big are the sections? The article doesn't say.
$99.00 seems like a lot of money for used turf.
Personally, I'd rather buy a Ute jersey. At least I can wear that.
You cared enough to comment. How is that smack talk it was all true and relevant to the article?
Right....I'm going to rush right out and get me a piece....right after I mow the yard and put the garbage out. I'm so excited !
Nintey-nine dollars? The check is in the mail.
Can I get the turf where Harline caught his touchdown? With my luck I'd get the part where Hall through his 5th pick.
The price is set by demand. People were sleeping out for these pieces and right now the line at the bookstore is huge. They probably could sell several hundred more. In light of the demand, $99 is cheap.
utahandboisest-
Well at least we have been to a bcs game, and not living in the past 25 years. Oh wait Utah has been to TWO BCS games. Im sorry but me and all the rest of the Utah fans dont give a crap that you have a phantom national title. WE DONT CARE. In fact everytime i see someone mentioning it, it just makes me laugh because I can see how jealous kewg fans are of Utah! Two bcs wins is far far more impressive than being handed a title 20 something years ago. So keep it up zoobies, keep saying at least you have a national title, i need a daily laugh.
Shoot, I'll have to content myself with the 20$ shirt my husband bought at the 2005 Fiesta Bowl, and there was the Sugar Bowl 2009 as well wasnt there? Any Bowls lately Boise?
I didn't see anybody arguing about the price of their turf. The mentioned prices are essentially the same, but no idea is given as to how large each piece of turf is. And one is in an era of recession and the other was in an era of rapid economic growth.
The smack was in the unsubstantiated claim that Boise State has a larger fan base than Utah. Boise State averages substantially fewer fans at home games. Boise State takes in about 75% of the revenue that Utah does each year in both football and overall. Boise State has a smaller student body, with about half the number of full time undergraduate students. And Boise State is in a metro area with half the population of Salt Lake's metro area and just barely larger than than the Ogden-Clearfield metro area.
Utah and Boise State have something in common--they are the only non-BCS teams to have won a BCS bowl game. Utah did it twice and I was at the Sugar Bowl this year watching them dismantle Alabama.
Are you kidding me?... this is the sillyest thing i have ever read (almost)... "Hey you over there, ya you do you wanna buy a patch of grass incased in wood? It's from the Uties Turf farm there in Rice-Eccles Every time we have a big year We're gonna sell it off fo at the least $100 a pop! Sounds like a deal for history eh boys?" Gimme a break!
Every real college football fan knows there's no national championship in college football. So apparently there are no real college football fans in Provo. Utah went undefeated and beat a mediocre Michigan team in 2008 - can we get a mythical national championship trophy too? Just like the one BYU has?
The good news about buying the turf: No matter which square foot you buy, it's almost a guarantee that Max Hall was standing on that piece when he threw an interception.
Wow, are they hurtin for chash or what? did they "blow" threw that BCS cash already?
You guys are the cutest little things, standing in line to buy used turf, arguing with Boise about who's better in the intermountain west. So sad, but like I said earlier very cute. Good luck with that.

And they don't have the unatural color which is nothing more than a tawdry marketing gimmick @ best.

Its too bad Rio Tinto and Energy Solutions have already invested their $ in such worthwhile endeavors.
You ute fans must not understand football in the 80's. Why would you, you didn't even have a football team back then. I think the band actually played.
Let me be the first to say that I loved watching Utah beat Alabama. Utah should have been in the title game. They weren't. But the Sugar Bowl win was HUGE! In fact, I agree with all Utah fans that the Sugar Bowl win was more impressive than any win BYU had in 1984.
But here is the history lesson. BYU was voted in as the National Champs. You say "Phantom" which means there supposedly was a more deserving team? That team was Washington. Did you know that BYU tried to get Washington to play them in a bowl game? They wouldn't. Did you know they did play the following year? BYU throttled them 31-3.
Based on 1984 rules, Utah would have a championship like BYU. Luckily for BYU fans, based on 2008 rules, Utah did not win the National Championship. We have our EARNED National Championship, you have 2 EARNED BCS wins. Congrats to both. Go Cougars!
I am very pleased that they are SELLING our grass NOW, 'cause after next season and our 9 & 4 wins, it won't BE WORTH MUCH!!!
We have the BEST PR DIRECTOR in the MWC! What a unique idea to sell our grass?
I know the Boise State Fan will say that the Utes STOLE THE IDEAL from them, but actually, it came from SOUTHEAST BAPTIST. Ha!!!!!!!!
GO UTES!!!!!
