The fireworks are the only thing worth seeing, and those you can see for free from your backyard.
Fireworks | 6:22 p.m. June 30, 2009
If they would have giant rockets that would launch Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana into space it would all be worth it.
Glen Beck is the only reason why I would go. Because I do not like BYU,Osmonds,or Jonas Brothers forget it!
History Nut | 6:23 p.m. June 30, 2009
Why did they invite Glenn Beck? I'll stay home rather than be inflicted by this very partisan whiner.

I remember when the festival was free for all citizens of Provo. A true FREEdom festival.

Glenn Beck - America loves you!

Only in Utah and only at BYU would our national holiday, the Forth of July, be used to divide the community along political lines. This speaks loudly about both Utah and the organization that owns BYU.

Yes it does speak loudly about Utah and the organization the owns BYU. Thank God for that!

Nobody is forced to live in Utah, and anybody that moves here ought to be aware that the culture is different then other places.

How nice that we can celebrate our countries independence with clean fun. Three cheers for the Red, White and Blue.
American, not Republican | 12:05 a.m. July 1, 2009
I'll continue to see fireworks from outside so long as our local celebration organizers continue to equate patriotism with arch conservative cant and rant mongers. At least William F. Buckley was both intelligent and funny. The new crop of right wing pundits are neither. Thank goodness my allegiance is to a country and flag, not this locally pervasive radical ideology.

If the festival is for everyone, then speakers that represent everyone should be mandatory.

Some years it looks like a political rally.

It's a neocon love fest at a LDS Church owned venue. Keep telling us the LDS Church isn't political. We have a "Christian" church using its facilities to divide the community. This is what Jesus would do?

History Nut,
You haven't been listening to Beck, obviously. Partisan? Toward a party? Beck has been mercilessly trashing the Republicans for some time. Maybe he trashes Democrats even more, so you think he's partisan. I see no evidence he is for a political party. Not if you listen at all. I would say he is partisan for the Constitution, for traditional American values, for fiscal sense, for a correct reading of American history. But for a party? No party represents those values any more. Only a nut would think otherwise.

listen to the professional victims whine
"you are divisive because you dont think like me" go look in the mirror
Andrew Thorn | 6:12 a.m. July 1, 2009
Diversity means that we celebrate the differences of others. It does not mean that we try to change the value's of others.

If you would like a celebration with different values create your own. There are lots of parks and other stadiums nearby that you could rent from their owners. You could invest your private funds anyway you would like.

Life is Good!
Seeing it again | 6:39 a.m. July 1, 2009
I haven't gone since I went to BYU in the early 80's. Going back this year because finally there is some music my family and I want to hear. Thank you for bringing the Jonas Brothers. Just wish it was really their World Tour show on the in the round stage and not the shortened version on a traditional stage. Oh well.
Patriotic | 7:39 a.m. July 1, 2009
This show must mean something, because it has been broadcasted to the troops for years on July 4th. Nothing against Beck or Hannity, it's just hard to find a liberal who is patriotic and doesn't degrade our country.

all utah county patriotic chest beaters, how many of you have been in the military, or done public service work aside from a church mission. how many of you visit a sick or wounded veteran in the hospital, or do something to support their family. i would respect one quiet act a lot more then all this razzle dazzel that reminds me of the tv evangelists who pray loudly in public for your dollars.

You guys need to settle down, Glenn Beck is merely hosting the event, this isn't Fox News in Provo!
Drivel | 9:26 a.m. July 1, 2009
I've avoided big crowds for many, many years. I did go to the stadium of fire in the early '80's and it was pretty cool. I got to see Roy Clark, Miss America Sharlene Wells, and David Hasselhoff. Oh, and that car. Kit? Glen Beck is a cool guy. Hope everyone enjoys the show.
Not going | 10:02 a.m. July 1, 2009
I haven't gone to the stadium for many years, in part because of the crowds but mostly because the whole event is a big Republican rally.

I thought about going this year, because my kids would like to see the Jonas brothers, but Glenn Beck was too much incentive to stay away.

To "Patriotic | 7:39 a.m.", you are full of garbage. I could say that there is no conservative that supports the Constitution because they applauded the Bush crowd for taking away or rights. Have you even looked for a host who was not a right-winger? I'm sorry, but this is a conservative/GOP event and has been for a long time. I can't remember Provo inviting anyone other than a right-winger host.
hello Andrew Thorn @6:12 | 4:09 p.m. July 1, 2009
I'm surprised you written the word "blue", as in red, white, and oh my gosh blue. I thought UT and esp UT Co. had made sure it had been removed.

"It's just hard to find a liberal who is patriotic and doesn't degrade our country."

Being a veteran, I know its hard to find a conservative that's a veteran, Beck, Hanity and Mitt included.

Stephen Colbert went to Iraq and he entertained our troops. Steven even had his hair cut off to humor our troops.

Were do you get off making such an outrageous statement? You think its "choosing the right" to lie about liberals?

While I was wearing green being spit on by future Limbaughs, I wasn't being patriotic?

You defile me while I wear a uniform and today you get to define patriotism to me. The nerve!

Who put sour lemons in all your drinking water? You people will bicker and moan about ANYTHING! I have just spent the last 5 minutes reading this blog and it has made me SO GLAD I no longer live in Utah! You people are the most negative people! I think the program sounds great. If you want to go, go. If you want to stay home or do something else do that! Why do you guys have to trash everything? Just be grateful you live in a country where you can CHOOSE what you want to do!
RE: Anonymous  | 4:40 p.m. July 1, 2009
What Hypocritic nonsense,

you attack bush afor away some unnamed "rights" (although you never specifically say what rights you personally have lost, nor how it has personally hurt you)

Yet you yourself applaud Obama and the liberal democrats and the progressives while they are attacking and taking away rights and have been taking right way rights and property from the people and the states for well over a hundred years.

I feel sorry for you that YOU can not separate politics from 4th of july pagentry and exhibitions of patriotism.

Then add on top of that your UGLY attacks on a community that is holding an event that may refect ITS values rather than yours.

What is more patriotic, more in following of the constitution, than each community holding events and inviting guests that reflect their values, principles, mores, their love for the country.

Isn't this ALL about individual freedom, community freedom, state freedom, etc.

United We Stand... | 5:01 p.m. July 1, 2009
Divided We Fall.
It's up to each of us to join together for the better good, regardless of political affiliation.

For crying out loud, it's a concert & fireworks show with a Master of Ceremonies!

Create unity and fun memories not bitterness and strife!

It's amazing to me how much bickering, complaining and name-calling goes on. You should all be ashamed of yourself. For those who are griping, you don't appreciate the privilege it is to have "The Stadium of Fire" close to you. I would give anything to go and witness the patriotism and fireworks. We just have to ignore the "wah wah" crowd and grateful there are less of them in the long run. I know it will be wonderful no matter who puts the effort into it. I'm envious...here we are sweating to death in Phoenix, AZ so stop complaining and be grateful for the bounteous blessing our men and women in the military are giving to us to enjoy through their sacrifice. Life is not perfect and neither are the people in it. You just have to look for the best and the good and let the other pass you by.
