Utah Jazz: Speculation mounting on free agency front
52 comments | Read story
The Jazz would be best served to get a veteran back up PG who can run the offense and shoot for a year. By then Maynor should be able to handle it.
Price was 2 mill a year. This year there are some better options for that money.
If he stays we are at $65 million WITHOUT OKUR and MILLSAP!! The luxury tax threshold will likely be 68 to 70 million which means we will have a difficult time signing Millsap OR OKUR.
The only other option is to sign them all then unload some of them before the trade deadline thereby avoiding having to pay the luxury tax.
Boozer, his big mouth, his ego, his lies about promising to opt out, his pr, are all just plagues!!
This guy could make things difficult on this organization for the rest of this season AND SEASONS TO COME UNLESS THE JAZZ GET BOLD AND SIGN WHO THEY REALLY WANT TO KEEP AND BANK ON BEING ABLE TO UNLOAD BOOZ FOR SOME OTHER TEAM MAKING A RUN A CHAMPIONSHIP BECAUSE WE KNOW WE CAN'T AFFORD 15 TO 18 MILLION IN LUXURY TAX!!
BIG DAY!!
I guess there is also a sign and trade possibility.
Please do not burden this team with another overpriced contract for a guy that is better suited off the bench.
The real interest by teams is going to be for Millsap, and the Jazz are going to have a tough time matching offers from Detroit and Oklahoma City for him if Boozer comes back.
Watch for a Boozer for Chris Bosh trade, though, if Boozer re-signs. Both would have contracts expiring in 2010, both would have a new team (which they both want), both would be motivated to put up great numbers, both would be better fits in their new locations - Boozer could hog the shots and the rebounds and care more about his personal numbers than wins - Bosh could play next to Millsap and provide energy and defense that Boozer is incapable of. And the best reason is that the Jazz would have a great chance to re-sign Bosh next year - Boozer is gone either way.
Further, if the Jazz are just going to hand the team off to one of the assistants who will make no changes the team may be better off with the experienced Sloan at the helm.
I am not advocating keeping Sloan. I think he has plenty of problems and is indirectly/directly responsible for a lot of the team weaknesses.
I am just pointing out that he has no incentive to retire and collect SS. Jazz management is going to have to make a decision to manage. If they want a better team they at least have to consider the limitations of Sloan, his philosophies and system.
They also have to seriously consider the probability that Sloan and his system are incapable of winning a ring. Further, his approach to the game is more expensive than approaches used by other successful coaches.
Boozer was not in the end of the Game against LA - Millsap was.
If Boozer opts out he is going to Pistons, if he does not opt out the Jazz will trade him to the Pistons for either Oberto or Kwame Brown and 2 million cash. Brown would then be bought out from the Jazz. Either way Boozer is gone.
The Jazz Brass made this decision at the end of the season.
The Jazz knows they can have Millsap back for about 6 to 8 million a year. No team is going to pay Millsap more than that in these conditions.
Okur - I hope he opts out and the Jazz let him go, but we will see
This may not be very popular but to be truthful:
Boozer should remain here unless they can pull off a trade.
Millsap is going to command too much-please do me a favor...When he comes back for another team., please give him a rowsing thank you and cheer for him to do well and do not boo him and always be a Millsap fan. He cannot produce on Carlos Level at this point,
Okur I have a feeling will leave. We have enough and with 3 big guys we can rotate improve our defense and maybe the 3 headed monster can match the 17 ppg.
We will be better off in the long run
with the lineup for this year anyway
G-DWIL, Brewer
PF Snoozie, AK
Center-Koustos (with Fez and Goran seeing time)
, Miles, Harpring, Maynor, Korver, Krueger make up the roster. Kevin is an incredible shooter and in some matchups he can come off the bench with Kyle and the 2nd unit, with Matt, Miles, Goran or Fez-would be an improved 2nd unit,
You got to be kidding.. Please say you are....
Thanks!
The Jazz have all season to work thru the problems (opportunties). If Boozer opts in he is quit valuable in trade. If Millsap gets to expensive he is replaceable. Boozer will be the starting PF for the first 1/2 year anyway.
Okur will resign for reasonable or he is more valuable in trade than Boozer. If he signs with a non NBA team the Jazz keep his rights but get salary cap relief.
In the long run the Jazz need a better PF than Boozer. One that will defend and get at least 16/10.
They also need a better C than Okur. One who can bang down low, defend and score.
Koufos should be helpful. The Jazz have 2 years to put together a better team.
They just need to be patient and get the right players. This is the year to deal and get better.
Michael Curry at Detroit
Interesting timing
IS IT NOT?
SOMETHING IS UP
If the jazz want to be contenders spend the money to do so! WE are 26the in the league when it comes to salaries, and we need to start shelling out some money...no wonder why no one wants to play in utah.
Personally I think Boozer won't opt out...either way, we need to keep okur and Milsap...Than we can ship carlos away on a trade, and we won't get the better end of it, but our wallets will be a little fatter. I say trade him to pistons for Prince or hamilton & a draft pick or some money. We also need to shell out AK for a guy like camby or chandler.
It will be an interesting summer, but please jazz spend some money to get some great players!
2nd - Bring Hot Rod back, he'll help the players "stop on a dime, and leave 7 cents change!" If the players hear catchy phrases like "With a gentle push and a mild arch, the old cow hide globe hits home!" They will believe in themselves and play beyond their potential!!
3rd - Build a memorial shrine to Stockton & Malone, (oops we already did) and for every home game just show hi-lights of the good ol' years, so we can ignore the actual game!!!
4th - Put a live mic on Sloan during the TV & Radio broadcast and in the arena; that way our children can learn "real world" phrases that will prepare them for "real life"!!!!
New Gm and strategy to win!!
Hear the rumor Laimbeer is going to become an assistant with the Timberwolves.
Will Sloan with encouraging support from "the sloanaholics" be able to find a way to get Mr. Collins back in here and we go with 4 centers?
Yeah world title babyyy

These are the top Free Agents. Unless they go back to the teams they are currently signed with, the only teams that can sign them for over the cap money this season is Detroit, Memphis, OK City and I think Portland is a little under the cap. My Guess is that Millsap, Sessions, Odom, Ariza, and Marvin Williams are the only team players that return to their teams. There is going to be 5 or 6 players on that list that will go for the Mid Level Exceptions this off season.
If either Boozer and Okur both opts out, that could mean the Jazz could get a replacement for about 6 million a year. David Lee for example.
rumors have it Bill Laimbeer will be offered the job per reports today in Detroit to replace Curry
Trust me-If Laimbeer does better with the Pistons, than Sloan does for the Jazz and "his sloanaholics"
You will hear about it.........
The Jazz are trying to get the contract down to 4 year and ending at 13 million on 2013. They are also trying to get the raise less.
Boozer hasn't spoken to the Jazz because they have not attempted to give him an extension (Because they are going to resign Millsap). Boozer is realizing that the market is not good (Detroit said they were interested, but not at 14 to 15 million a year) I guessing Boozer does not opt out, and the Jazz trade his contract to Detroit for Kwame Brown and Cash
Millsap is hoping to get a 10 million contract, but OKC won't offer him that much. It all depends on what Memphis offers him. I think Memphis is going to make a make an offer to either David Lee or Millsap which ever they can get cheaper.
This is all speculation
I'm betting Okur opts out - and then agrees to an extension - the finishing touches are probably being applied to the deal right now.
And Boozer, unfortunately, will opt in. Detroit doesn't want him badly enough. Boozer is a legend in his own mind. I'm going to laugh if he has to take a pay cut next season.
Paul does not have low post abilities as Boozer
Defense is not eithers strengths
He's not playing anyone. He'll eat crow and opt-in, then take a pay cut next year to sign with a team that's worse than the Jazz. Meanwhile the Jazz pick up one of the many great PFs in the lottery next year with their pick from the Knicks. Boozer was too clever by half this year and got burned....
BOOZER COULD STAY AND CHANGE HIS ATTITUDE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE TEAM AND MAKE UTAH SHINE OR GET AN UPGRADE SOMEWHERE ELSE. THESE GUYS ARE GOOD AND CAN PULL SOMETHING OFF I TELL YOU!! Watch Out!!!
I have lived in in Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Denver Detroit and Cleveland. There ain't no fans nowhere who can speculate like a Jazz fan. I remember Alonzo Mourning had a 2 hour layover in the SLC airport. Next day it was in the papers he was considering coming to Utahr.
Speculate. It's what we do best.
Actually very similar to 2008-2009
O Connor is celebrating...This is what he wanted.
I knew he was awful/ I am now convinced/.
