Waddups, how about you worry about your own family, and not what the residents of this supposedly free nation do to their livers.

Many, many of them live in Utah. Even the drinking laws confirm it!!!

I don't drink, but this is a change that is way overdue.

Having had a family member seriously injured by a drunk driver I think worrying about what other residents in this free nation are doing is well within my rights. You don't seem to understand, with freedom comes responsibility.

Well said Freedom.....waddups should tend to stick his nose in his affairs.....and not everyone elses.

This is an important change, but it's just the biggest and the most ridiculous of the stupid liquor laws that needed to go. There are at least 5 more changes Utah needs to make in order to get to where Idaho's liquor laws are -- nevermind any of the other surrounding states. This is a big step toward normality, but it's just the first step.
setting apart | 8:52 a.m. June 30, 2009

This whole demon rum nonsense is just something to set one group apart from the other.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
not so out of line | 9:20 a.m. June 30, 2009
I think this law was long overdue but I also think Waddups comment in this article are not so out of line. I actually expected far more kicking an d screaming from the nanny's. I think it is important that people engaging in the pub crawl remember that as they are going to be traveling around the city after having some alcohol that with freedom comes responsibility to not place others at unnecessary risk. So have fun but be safe!

The Legislature and Gov. Huntsman deserve a lot of credit for making these long-overdue changes. Instead of carping, let's give them a round of applause for a great decision.

Very sorry to hear about the loss. you nailed it, with freedom comes responsibility, but how does getting rid of private memberships enable more drunk driving? It doesn't. If people are going to be dumb and drink and drive, they are going to do it regardless if its a "private club" or bar. What about all the people who are driving while on prescription pain meds, ambian, or on their cell phones? It's about time that we step in the right direction and quit using some backwards idea behind the veil of religion that allowing people to go to bars freely, buy higher point beers is going to make utah explode. Tourism is a huge industry, and you have to cater to your customers if you want them to keep coming.
Utah enters 19th century | 10:21 a.m. June 30, 2009
Congratulations to Utah on finally arriving at the 19th century!

So, the liquor-loosening law goes immediately into effect, but we have to wait over a year for SB81 to take effect, and our elected leaders and those appointed to protect us are vowing not to enforce it. What's wrong with this picture?
cbird | 10:35 a.m. June 30, 2009
What?! Like no one has ever done this (creeping) before?. It just wasn't public knowledge.

"What's wrong with this picture?"

Absolutely nothing.
nice Move | 1:51 p.m. June 30, 2009
I think this is a good, long-overdue, change. This will not increase drunk driving. Is there going to be a sudden onslaught of "new" drinkers that will suddenly decide to drink and drive because they can get into a formerly private club? I don't even live in Utah and I have been in many "private" clubs, it was no difficult to do. It was annoying, but not difficult. This will change exactly nothing. To the "to freedom" I am sorry that you lost a family member due to drunk driving. But do you know that driver was at a beer bar? a home? or a club? Drunk is drunk and you can get that way anywhere.

Additionally, I believe that ANY impaired driving is a problem. Examples: prescription meds, texting, cell phone, eating, screaming kids, stupidity, lots of bad choices cause accidents.
@consistency | 1:51 p.m. June 30, 2009
what wrong is you are trying grind your ax on a forum with nothing to do with SB81, try writing a letter.

The pub crawls have free busses running all night. People will be bussing it, walking it, and cabbing it. The bicycle rigshaws will also be out in force around downtown. Everyone be safe and have fun. Cheers!
